  1. a spin off from the greg got his car smashed with a tree thread.

We all bought our vehicles for different reasons - some are expensive - some real cheap - some bought for luxury while others for performance - post pics of your car and tell us the story on how/why you got it

I'll start with mine - being in Real Estate, it's somewhat mandatory that you drive a respectable car to carry clients in but I'm no rich guy so after doing a lot of research, It finally decided on this car - a 1999 Mercedes S420 - this car comes in various engines including a S320 (3.2l 6cyl) and two 8 cyl - S420 (4.2l) and S500(5l) and also a 12cyl S600 - all the same body and aside from the engine, there is a huge list of different options - the S600 comes fully loaded with all kinds of electronic gizmos.

    (snip)

A truly grand piece of machinery, mate - I can see why you bought it.

I'm not going to post my current car to this thread as the tree kinda spoilt the lines.... lol. I'm taking the AMG for a last spin today, but I'll be back to driving a crappy courtesy car tomorrow (a horrendous piece of garbage made by Renault ... or Peugeot.... one of those, I forget...).

  2. lol as expected this thread is bordering on going off topic

i do think we should have a best buys thread its usefull for newbies and there is a credit crunch going on so its usefull to everyone

Yeah, I agree. We should start a serious one when we get back to RWG1.

  3. are you posting rolex to purposely sabotage this thread?

No, I'm posting Rolex to this thread to wind you up :D :D

And seriously, whilst I wouldn't buy one myself, I think it's a nice looking watch. Anyhow, it beats the canal street junk that Onze posted.

  4. Still no boobies ?

This is a car thread. You can only have boobies if they're draped over a Mercedes.... :D

Just got back from giving the AMG a good run - steady drive down to Portsmouth for lunch and back after. The round trip is about 120 miles, 80% of it being fast dual-carriageway, which means a fairly economical trip - just 20 mins or so of country roads at this end, and a short stretch of slow roads in the middle. I filled up the tank before we left and filled up again when we got back so's I could work out fuel consumption.

So... on this journey I got 30mpg. WTF!!!!???

A big, heavy, car with a 5.5 litre supercharged V8 and it does 30mpg! How!!!???

On the same journey, I've never gotten much more than that in the old car with an engine less than half the size. First time I did the figures, I thought I'd got it wrong, so I did 'em again.... Yup. 30. I didn't even take it that easy - just drove how I usually do on that trip (which I do often).

Gonna try a cross-country journey tomorrow to see how that fares...

  5. This thread should only be for Greg, he is the cheap bastard over here :D

These are all a bit too expensive for me..... :D :D :D

Not too impressed with the IWC as the case looks wrong for that model. The AP is VERY nice, however - I might not be able to resist that one. The Rollie DeepSea lite is also very tempting.

The Corum looks like an explosion in a candy factory, but to each his own ;)

    How about this:

Bvlgari Assioma Petit Complication. Same 1:1 case as the 'super rep' Assioma. Working flyback hour hand. $138

  6. ya just had to stun us with another $55 watch didn't ya :)

looks a bit small (for me anyhow) but anything that looks like a watch and actually works at that price is a good thing - you'll see cheaper straps with a deployment for that price - the watch was a bonus

let us know how it keep time and power reserve

LOL - yeah, I just can't resist 'em. It's not just that I'm cheap (although, of course, I am ), but I'm truly astonished at how good a watch can be at these kinda prices. Photos don't do it justice.

Although it is 40mm, it wears smaller - feels smaller than my VC, certainly. I've been wearing it since it arrived and so far it is completely accurate (or at least, as accurate as a watch with no second hand can be). We'll see about power reserve, but my $55 rollie manages about 30 hours...

  7. Okay - for a change, I'm going to talk about watches.

Once again, Tony's been amazingly quick sending this watch. It arrived in just 1 week - and that's by airmail! That's about as fast as Josh manages to the UK via EMS! Second time he's done it too.

Anyhow, I bought this through his CQout store for about
