  1. We have all heard this same type of story before. Their is no question TTK is an honorable man and does deliver. The issue I hear from this and other members is the delivery time. We are quite use to this 5 -10 day delivery time from many collectors. Hence, we assume this is the delivery time frame standard for every collector. A quiet statement such as "my standard delivery time 60 to 90 days", or some such, would I think put this issue to rest. I know it is hard to be patient when you are waiting for your latest new toy to arrive. I am right there with you boys.
  2. The fully modded Thumb Watch 111H over at RWI looks pretty good to my eye.
  3. Bought four Steinhausen quads two years ago. Little more than $125 each if I recall correctly. All slowly dying out now. About 50% of the turntables are dead. Took one completely apart trying to make repairs. I thought it was just motors burning out. I found some better grade motors at a scientific parts house. Then I began to test the winders and discovered it was the circuit board that was fried. No way to replace the circuit boards of course. Makes nice display cases.
  4. If the movement is not stamped ETA then it is an Asian automatic. Asian movements bear no markings to identify themselves. Even our prized GMT ETA's have a little Asian gearing attached to them for the GMT feature. So they are not 100% ETA, only about 99%. ETA's are the best, tho some Asian movements can be quite good. However, sorting this out can be quite difficult.

  6. Even tho the movement may be ETA, the GMT gearing is an Asian add on. Man does that gearing look feeble, very poorly attached, hard to believe it evens works! That said all six of my ETA 2836's with this add on GMT continue to work perfectly out of the box for years now. Looks butt ugly like it will quickly fall apart, but they continue to work.
  7. I recall a few years back one of our members actually melted down a "solid gold" link to test if in fact it was solid gold. Don't quite remember how this test was done, perhaps by the melting point difference. Regardless, it was proved to be solid gold. The discussion went further by a metalllurgist, or some such, that told how low carat solid gold was not as expensive as one might think. This was the best article I have ever read on the solild gold issue. It would be a super article to unearth again.
  8. Is that the coveted Panama Red version?
  9. Yes sir, got the big screw today also! $42 USA to Asian country.
  10. Some of these new bezels bend very easily. Any bend to the bezel and it will not ever turn right again. I cannot tell a good bezel from a easily bent one by appearance.
  11. Are those the old eta 7750 with seventeen jewels? Do they take the same size hands as the twenty-five jewel movement?
  12. My recommendation is to set the winder at the revolutions per day most correct for the movement. For example my 2836-2 movements should be wound 650 rpd in either direction. I pick the setting at, or slightly more than 650 rpd, doesn't matter what direction for them. Pick less and the movement will not stay wound, pick more and it needlessly over winds the movement adding wear. If your winder does not give you specifications, then count the turns and calculate the total daily revolutions. This is just how I do it and works well for me.
  13. Jomama - I hope this winder serves you well for many years to come. I own four Steinhausen quad winders for over two years. They all look beautiful. They have over 80 layers of lacquer hand applied by large breasted virgins. All ran flawlessly out of the box. Slowly each became noisy and have begun to die out. First one winder, then the next, then the next. I suspect all of these inexpensive winders we buy will quickly die. The cheap Chinese parts inside, motors and circuit boards, are not built for longevity. I am anxiously awaiting an inexpensive better grade winder. So let us know next year how these fare. You tell me all is well at one year, then I am going to buy one also.
  14. What the heck? The dealers have been sending you fake replica's? You mean they have like: SuperLume that is not. Asian eta that is not.
  15. River still sells them. Pick up a few last week.
  16. Yes, they are all nice right out of the box. Give it a year or two and let us know if it still runs.
  17. Some of these new submariners and new GMT's have very easy to bend bezels. Once you pry them up the warp in the bezel prevents them from every rotating properly again. I cannot tell from just looking at the bezel which is strong enough to pry up and which will bend.
  18. I just bought the 005 and 111H last month. Paid the extra dollars because I thought I was getting the new, best quality Pam's. I am quite disappointed in the quality watches I received for the money paid. Even more disappointed he will not return my email questions after the sale. He will have to considerably improve both his products and communication before I consider him again.
  19. Does anyone have first hand experienced getting this 005 dial relumed? Mine is done in C7, very green color dial. Hour and minute hands look more like C3. Could I get the dial relumed in 80:20 mix C1:C2 and have the final color come out correct? Some forum members suggest that the C7 green color will still show right through the new whiter lume job. Finally, if it is relumed couldn't the numbers be redone just a little fatter? Any comments? edit: I just found Flavor Flav's comments down below about all C1 lume working well. Thanks Flavor Flav !!!
  20. You did not take is apart? Just masking tape? I am impressed !! Very nice job indeed.
  21. It is common for dealers to be very attentive before the sale and scarce after the buy. Delivery time varies from 2 - 4 weeks. Tracking numbers only work about half the time for me. Sometimes I even get my watch before tracking shows anything. Relax you still got time. Welcome to our odd little sport.
  22. Any chance you could post pictures of this? Totally different set up than I have in my horizontal type winders.
  23. .....we need a clean up on aisle 6 please.
  24. I have to admit I have looking at these winders also. What prevents my heavy Pam's from falling out from this vertical position? Velcro?
  25. Four Steinhausen quads about two years ago. All slowly dying out. First one winder of the four goes, then the next, then the next. Took one apart, it was the circuit board that fails. Voltage drop then poof - dead. They go into this agonal multi directional spin then die.
