  1. You have heard me say this many times here before.... Never stick your head too high out of the foxhole. You're liable to take a bullet right between the eyes. Our hobby is best kept on the very low key. After all, it is illegal contraband. Someday someone may decide to make an example of us and raid the compound. They may not burn it to the ground, but they may trash the bejesus out of the place. ....and just because I'm paranoid does'nt mean they're not after us!
  2. The perfect collection is not attainable in this hobby. For the simple reason no replica is perfect. You may think you have the perfect Rolex collection, or Panerai collection, or Breitling collection. About the time you finally collect all the different models from a brand that you desire, along comes the new, improved model. Perhaps only slightly improved, but better none the less. Then the hunger sets in for just one more watch to upgrade. If I just had this improved model the collection would then be perfect. The search for the perfect collection will drive one mad. .....buts it's sure fun trying.
  3. I really am in need of some good tips for properly aligning the datewheel in a GMT II. Arrived from the dealer with half the date covered up by the date window. Well respected dealer essentiall said tough luck buddy. (I say thats the last dollars you ever get from me bubba). Have tried a few times removing the datewheel and re-glueing it down. Just can't seem to get it properly aligned. Once I take the dial off I lose all reference to placement in the window. When I slip the dial back on it initally looks okay, but once fully cased is off one way or the next. This trial and error is only full of errors so far. Surely there is some trick to make a good alignment. Thanks guys.
  4. Bought a glazed crocodile Pam strap last year. Way too shiny for my taste, looks like patent leather. Have this great quality Banda $100 strap I now don't wear. Anyone got any ideas how I can reduce this glossy look to a matte finish? I might actually wear this one if I could reduce the shine.
  5. I really like the Panerai cuff links in silver. These would really look sharp while wearing them with a Panerai watch. My only problem is I can't fit Panerai watches on my 8.25 inch wrist when wearing a dress shirt! Just won't fit under the shirt cuff. Rolex wins by default with dress shirts for me.
  6. Amazing story - what a unique craftsman. The clocks he made are truly works of art. Enjoyed reading about the man, especially the bio.
  7. I did the reconnaissance. According to the SilixPrime websight. White face only, Swiss 7750 Automatic titanium for $550. For me the wrong color. Make it black face only please. Nice to have Swiss 7750 tho. Reps with a price tag > $500 makes me balk. We got the entry level - old Asian 7750 available. We got the pricely one - Swiss 7750 available. So where is the new Asian 7750 @ 28,800 bph? Its for me the more desirable middle of the pack movement.
  8. Thanks much Chronus for the tip. Will promptly research this info. By the way I love the girls eyes. Loved the whole body picture even more so. Who is she?
  9. Personally I preferred the steam roller pictures crushing the reps in China! On second thought, maybe they could first grind them all up; then crush them with the steam roller. ...then perhaps a dose of napalm in case any survived.
  10. Imagine that, Illumines Dot for Bezel Insert that fits authentic bezel insert only. Will not fit replicas. Suprised Bob don't mention that on his site.

  12. I use Dremel with small felt wheel and green rouge. Finish with Cape Cod Cloth then red rouge jewelers cloth.
  13. I believe most of these cheap winders we have are made by the same company in China. They may have different brand names, or sold by different companies, but they look identical. My experience is the same. One or two of each winder on the quad winder has stopped dead. I initally thought the motors burned out, tried to source new motors. Upon complete disassembly it was the circuit board that had gone bad for that module. Impossible to source new circuit board. Oh well, still makes a nice display case.
  14. Holy Cow!!! Three years ago I nearly paid $1000 for a scam site submariner. Their prices have really come down substantially. Is competition getting that rough its driving scam site prices down?
  15. Great information/ discussion guys. Thanks Pugwash for the link reminder. Was just mulling this over last night.
  16. I keep looking for this watch with the new Asian 7750 @ 28,800 bph. Have only found it with the old 7750. Has anyone seen this with the better new movement? ...still hoping to find the Seawolf titanium one day also.
  17. Always amazes me to see NOS items like this suddenly appear. Quite a selection he has in his store too. Wish he had the movements for sale.
  18. Another member of the Daytona Paperweight Club.
  19. The IWC chrono titanium bracelet is unusually small. A few forum members commented about this here previously. I quiried one dealer about it fitting my 8.25 inch (21cm) wrist. He replied no problem, will easily fit 23cm wrist. Bit odd I thought, contrary to what info was being posted here. Then I asked another dealer known for top notch service. He replied no problem and included extra links. Sure enough, bracelet was way too tight on the titanium model. Couldn't even get it over my hand onto the wrist. Word of caution, these titanium links are very difficult to push out the retaining pins, even with proper tools! The pin tool device sent with these watches is totally worthless, metal is very soft.
  20. Watch movement plays a big role for me. A good ETA like a 2836 inspires engine confidence for me in a new piece. Asian 7750 in other than stock subdials makes me hesitate considerably. After weighing in on the movement then I judge for the cosmetic looks.
  21. Rolex is what first got me started in this hobby of ours. I am currently maxed out on them. Got every model worth having in every color, (except Daytona's --> POS) Not really interested in any more unless they start making better quality reps. The new improved models are not improved enough to me to justify buying another. When they really make significant improvements then I may upgrade. By the way, they only scream fake to less than 0.001% of the watch wearing population. Never had anyone say that my sub has abnormal looking crown guards, my rehaut was't deep enough, or my cyclops was to far lateral. Suspect no one ever will - not unless I run into one of you guys somewhere! Jetmid !!!
  22. In large collections there are watches that are loved and worn frequently; and others that merely sit looking pretty and are rarely or even never worn. Owners gaze out and admire their flock of watches like blue herons on a sun filled beach. Yes, maybe some don't run - like that damn Daytona Black Widow. Sure looks nice, pain in the ass since the day I bought her. Hard time justifying in my mind a repair that costs more than the watch is worth, (Asian 7750, seconds @ 6pm), and will likey never run properly like it was designed. The best of the flock will be serviced and repaired as needed. Others will simply continue to look pretty in their cases, a reminder to me that they once had better days, and that now is long gone.
  23. .....just remembered - I do have one rep that advances the year by a push bottom located bewteen the bottom lugs. Take a look there too.
  24. Don't own a Glashutte, but usually a small recessed push button on the left side of the case.
