  1. Did he say if a 2892 version was also on the way? As much as Rolex movement is cool - I don't have that kind of cash.
  2. I got really excited there for a minute - but then... Dial is off Pearl - crap Case thickness - too thin - crowded HE value Nice bezel and crown position - of course. I hope that Angus's turns into reality some day. One really cool thing - which I have been hoping for - is the use of the 2892 mvt. Solves the crown position problem
  3. Agreed. They pull the movement from other Rolex watches with the same movement, and then put the parts together into a hybrid (yeah - aftermarket case). Next thing you know - you have added $2000 to a $3000 datejust.
  4. Does that "30" in the datewindow look right? It must be the angle and the datewindow offset. Looks pretty bold too. But that is certainly possible.
  5. Yes - I think you are right. I did not see those white hands. I think that dial is aftermarket. That makes this a non-legit sale. I have never seen that "m" on a picture of a dial of a 1680 that was cleared as being legit.
  6. Check out this e-bay listing. Since this topic has come up recently - the dial on this watch looks fishy to me. Kind of like the NDT dials. http://cgi.ebay.com/Rolex-Sub-Very-Rare-16...VQQcmdZViewItem Picture: The seller has all the makings of being legit - but this watch.....not sure. Opinions?
  7. If it turns out to be genuine - i would be as happy as you. I have had one sitting on my shelf for the last half year. It may be a "re-dial" which is basically a re-finish over a genuine base. Again, good luck. Either way - it looks great.
  8. Ptolomeo - great stuff. You are well on your way. One point on the dial. I bought the same dial (same front and back markings). I have since been told that it is not genuine - but actually a rep dial. The giveaway is the "m" in "200m". I think it is a great dial - but just wanted you to know that I have been told it is not genuine. I don't have mine in my watch. I bought another white sub dial (which is also supposed to be gen - but i am not sure on this one either) that is less conspicuous than red. Good luck
  9. I like the Cousteau - but not this color combo. I agree - the first was better.
  10. Not to start the nitpicking - but look at that Pearl. It is not centered in the bezel marker. Yikes.
  11. Wow - very nice work. How did you drill the log holes through on the Noob? I have drilled lugholes on MBW's where there is a pilot hole to use - but did you do thoe holes from inside the lugs?
  12. Very good Doc! You are correct, it is an older Eta/Valjoux - not the new 25J. Good eyes - it is the datewheel which came with the movement though.
  13. Sorry for the confusion giorgio. My watch is a first generation rep. The back is of the rep. The front is a genuine dial. Believe me, it is. The 7750 is a genuine Eta with a standard ETA font. As I said, i think that they must have made more than one version of this watch's dial. I compared my new dial with a genuine in the AD, particular noting the "8" and it was the exact same. Yes - i am one of the many who is also eagerly awaiting Lello's datewheel project. Also - not all replicas have "correct" window placement. For instance, some of our replica windows are cut in the wrong place and off a little here or there - and hence - that is why you can not get the date numbers to line up sometimes - even if using a genuine movement. I will see if I can dig up the old dial so that you can compare.
  14. Ok. Just trying to help here. This is a picture of my dial - it is genuine. This watch also has a genuine ETA 7750 in it - hence the perfect date alignment in the genuine dial window.
  15. Here is the back of my first gen if this helps. Personally - that watch looks pretty good. Probably gen.
  16. I would love to know if such a magical place exists. That is why you should buy what evern Omega parts you can from Ofrei while Omega still lets you.
  17. I'm with you. I have a 96 BMW 328IS which I have thrown some serious cash into with Racing suspension, Super Charger, short shifter, new lights, blah blah blah. But, then two kids came along. So that car sits in a garage going nowhere. I had to come up with something else - much cheaper.
  18. The Zigmeister - in replacing the crown on your SMP chrono - did you also have to replace the tube? If not - is it easy to get those crowns?
  19. Completely agree. That said - we all are way more critical of any Rolex rep because it is the number one copied watch. Since even genuine Rolexes are immediately guilty of being reps until proven innocent, a rep has to be even that much more perfect. I mean - all of our super reps have a little flaw here or there - which if found on the Rolex sport watches - would immediately put them in sub-par status (unless they could be fixed - like an insert). I have both the MBW 1665 and the MBW 1680 - so my Rolex appetite is satiated for now. However, I would jump on the Modern Sea Dweller in a heartbeat if they get it right. Those MBW are great - but boy does it take dilligence and moola to get them into acceptable shape. Here's hoping we see a 2824 or 2892 version of the Sea Dweller instead of the ole 2836.
  20. Thanks for sharing Bytor... I own a lot of reps - but only those that I think are super reps - or those that could become super-reps. I am eagerly awaiting the: 1. Rolex Sea-Dweller - Super Rep (but only if it is a super rep - or can take gen parts) 2. IWC Aquatimer - also has to be a super rep. I have an ETA 7750 waiting for it - if it is worthy. 3. ANY Panerai that can actually pass as a super rep. ( I have an 063 which is nearly perfect except for those "A's") There have only been two Panerai's which even have the right "A" in the dial lettering: the 089, and new Arktos and Northpole. However, both of those have problems which can not easily be solved. So here's to hoping that one of the super rep factories actually chooses a Panerai to make. Before anyone says the typical "you are being too anal" comment --- that is the fun of this hobby for me - trying to make the watches perfect. Right now (for today at least) my fav rep is my Omega 45.5 Ultimate PO with gen dial.
  21. Here is a thought on the ole Sub or Seadweller question. There seem to recently have been alot of watches coming out with the 2892 Asian copy. Would using this movement on a Sub or Seadweller actually place the crown in the right position? If so - should we suggest that to Angus. Of course - i am sure that the seadweller case is already set in stone.
  22. OK - done. I will get the both AR'd on the next single sided run. Now - when is that happening....... :-)
