  1. For modern GMT2 at the moment i think Josh model with lug holes (428$) is the best!Just see where the crown is located!Maybe its like TW best GMTII!

Sorry to ask a dumb question - but on the 2893 - what is the hand stack? I have not seen any pictures of this close up enough to tell if the bottom is the hour or the gmt hand. Looking at e-bay for 2893 hands - it would appear that hour is on the bottom and the gmt is above that - which is the same as the gen - right?

  2. I have all three versions of the 2893 GMT Josh is selling (and I can almost hear our residents saying, "so who's surprised). It's no secret that I MUCH prefer the 2893 in a GMT or Explorer II.

I previously had two of the TW Best GMT 2893s, but I broke down and let a friend have one. I tried to replace it later, but couldn't. I asked Josh to see if he could get me the watch thru his sources, so when he made the connection, I bought three.

It seems to me that some folks are going to criticize anything Josh does these days, so you might want to search and see what was said of the ones discussed previously - it is the same exact watch.

I'll say this -- as much as I love some of you guys, don't even hold your breath waiting for me to let anybody have another one of these!!!!

The Zigmeister has the 2893 GMT I had left before buying these, and he's putting a gen crown/tube in it for me. I hope it makes as much difference as it does with the SUBS and SDs.

Anybody happen to have any gen 6mm crown sets?

    Bill

@tjgladeraider - do you think that these TW Best GMT's could take a gen crown/tube as well? Also - the pictures that Josh has up seem to make the red/black bezel color look wrong. Is it just the pictures?

  3. A gen 93150 hollow midlinked bracelet with 580 endlinks is no problem, I can access them. But - will you pay the price? Or more your friend? I wouldn't... :) We are talking new here, from the dealer.

The rep band, if correctly specificated is same quality, even better. Won't slash your wrists - the gen does, probably needs some modding :)

Where would you get a good rep band? Every band that I have ever seen can not really accomodate the genuine springbars without modifications. I have tried several modifications and while you can get them to work - they are all less than satisfying. Broken welds, squeaky, etc. I would love a rep bracelet that comes close. Do you hvae a good line on those?

  4. The Zigmeister,

My brother is a huge Doxa fan. So much so, that he laughs at my genuine Omegas, not to mention my reps. I like Doxas also - but i have yet to pick one up. The new GMT version is rather striking. Cool to see that you worked on one of these.

  5. Having done 3 different DW's now, i can tell you a couple of things from painful experience:

1)piecing the font's together from dial shots is a fools game --I ought to know since I'm the fool who's tried it.

2)The movement pic is a good start for ID purposes but it's not nearly high res enough to try to trace or duplicate

3)The font in the above myfonts link is not it, and would take too much tweaking in Illustrator to make it "it." I'm convinced most hig end watchmakers use proprietary fonts--OP, FM, and Tag do not but Rolex, VC, AP, Cartier and I bet Brietling do.

That being said, I've gotten my hands on what appears to be an OEM Brietling DW--it looks a lot like the gen version of one of the currently repped pieces, but it's not exact..maybe from an older model? Theoretically, would you guys be satisfied with an overlay that has slightly different 2's and 7's. Maybe ultra perfectionists could wear a different watch 12 days a month?

@archibald - I would take any type of Breitling datewheel as i am sure that they are better than what we have now. Are you and the gang still pursuing this?

  6. Agree with the "cringe" statement. I mean, come on, they could not think of anything better than that?

With respect to the watch - i am not sure on the Rolex. It does look a little large on his wrist to be that. Then again, i agree, which his character - what would be a better fitting watch. Hope this one is a good one.

Andy Garcia finally gets to play a "good" guy. He has said in interviews that he wishes he could have played one of the 11.

  7. Experts

I have a rep Omega 42 dial (which had the good logo) and a rep Omega 45.5 dial in my Ultimate. Has anyone ever attempted to swap logos? I know that there are two pins that attach the rep logos on. Am I likely to ruin the dial or is it possible to do?

On an alternative note - I would also like to know if anyone has had success in ordering the genuine 45.5 white PO dial from Ofrei or anywhere else.

    Thanks

  8. The difference is the more accurate case and dial and best of all the swiss 2893 movement which far superior to the 2836 models. As long as it is genuine swiss of course!

The Sub is a TW judging by the details and the caseback sticker. Looking at my genuine Sub and this one on Josh's site, I would say it is as near perfect as you will get without modding too much.

I was hoping for something like the 2893 GMT model to come out. How do you know that the case and dial are more accurate. One sign that it is probably a real 2893 - is the fact that the date on the datewheel is off. It looks like the standard ETA 6. First mod to this will have to be a new datewheel or overlay.

  9. I am getting one of these in the mail and I am sure that it will have the same problem. When it comes to logos - i am really nitpicky. So - i would have to take the chance of screwing this up in order to fix it. If i didn't get it fixed - i simly would never wear the watch.

So - question for the board (since I know mine will be the same) - how does one take these logo's off? Hairdryer? i know that is has the two holes with which it attaches - but will keep it from coming off? What is behind these logos - glue?

Also - i was at the AD today - are the logos on the Gen 42 and Gen 45.5 they same size? it seemed that way to me.

    Sorry for all the questions.

  10. True guys, regarding the 063. I love the watch - it is my favorite. But hey, we wouldn't be on this board if we did not strive for perfection in inherently imperfect items. The modders anyway. The other stuff with the 063 does not bother me, like the fact that the dial minute number print is .5mm closer to the center than the gen - making the genuine hands that i have look too long.

When i look at watches - the first thing i look at on any watch is the brand logo. It is the essense of the product. That is why the Omega logo on the Ultimate PO 45.5 just kills me. When they go through THAT much trouble to make such a perfect copy - and can't take the extra $500 bucks to set up the machine to make the right logo it boggles the mind.

Of course the general population has no idea what we are talking about. Most don't even know what a Panerai is - but we don't wear watches for them - we wear them for ourselves. Heck - my watches are almost always under my shirt.

@chieftang - very nice 063. I have a jimmyfu crown guard as well - which i have not put on. I really can't see the difference - but that is just me. See? To others - that crown guard would bother them - but at least they have a chance to fix it. I will never be able to fix the "A" until a new generation of the 063 comes out and someone tries to get it right.

Thanks for the comments - keep them coming.

I am this close to getting a new Arktos. I was hoping that they would take the Ultimate Arktos improvements and put them into a Arktos GMT. I have decided that I am not that crazy about the blue faced North Pole. Too many blue faced watches as it is. :D

  11. Ok - got a question for all of the PAM experts out there. While I love my PAM 063 (gen ETA 2893 movement, date wheel upgrade, cyclops upgrade coming, re-lume, etc) - i still cring whenever i look at the "Panerai" font on the dial. The low bar on the "A" just bugs me.

So - i am looking to get a Panerai model with a much closer Panerai font. I do not care about the other stuff on the watch which may be bad (crown, crown guard, etc). It is the font that kills me.

In my opinion - the two best current models with the correct font are:

    1. New Ultimate Arktos 092

    2. New GMT 089 (any version - but anthracite is fine

Does anyone out there think that there exists a model with a more accurate "Panerai" on the dial? Thanks for your feedback.

  12. I can't remember who was willing to make these - it was in one of my old threads - but the reality was - they need a high res scan/photo of the whole date wheel - not just each number. Since it is unlikely anyone would allow someone to crack it open - hopefully high res of each numeral will help against a close datewheel. I think i remeber reading that the 7's were slighly off on the datewheel that one person was able to track down.
