  1. Excellent post The Zigmeister! I wondered about how these would hold up and this post sets the record straight. Thank you! I thought the pushers were sealed on these models but it appears dirt is making its way in to the case. Is that normal? Now that dry cap jewel has me thinking it's time to service some watches.
  2. Thanks for the reply! I think I will keep it safe and go with the cartel 104. I hate to pay for a bunch of stuff that is just going to be stripped off but I guess it's the best option available. The part I'm still trying to figure out is the 7750 P1. I suspect there are special hand stems to adjust for the altered thickness of the 7750 without the chrono module. If you simply remove the chrono module off a swiss 7750 I'm not sure if it would work. I figured someone had done this mod before but maybe not. I think somebody just needs to sell me a gen movement!
  3. Gents, I have the good luck to have sourced a gen dial and hands for a PAM 104. So know comes the fun part, deciding which rep parts to use. So here are my primary questions. Anyone that can help I would be greatly appreciative. Case: Would a DSN case fit the dial? I seem to remember that his dials are sized differently but I don't know if it affects this model. What would be the best option? Movement: I assume the 7750 P-1 rep movement suffers from the same hand fitment issue as the standard A7750. If so, has anybody stripped down a Swiss 7750 into this configuration? What was involved? Lastly, for you PAM experts, is the gen CG for the auto different than the Gen handwind CG? I know the crown if different but I'm not sure about the CG. A big thanks to all the experts for your assistance!
  4. Oh, don't worry my friend. The current stuff listed is on my radar. Now everybody back away from your computers. There is nothing to see here..... Just a few old ugly watches.
  5. I leave on a business trip and WHAM, the Doxa Gods rain down vintage love. I missed the last few but happy to hear my partner in crime (Nanuq) jumped on it. I'll just have to wait for a temporary moment of weakness to buy it from him. That Sharkie is a must have. That Black Lung is one rare watch. I might buy it just to keep my other one company. I'm sure they haven't seen each other in about 43 years. Thanks for the heads up Gents!
  6. Add one more to the list. Of course I have been saying the same thing for years.
  7. Thanks for the input Gents! Both Nanuq and I are Land Rover owners so I'm used to the British Anti-Corrosion Self-Oiling System (aka fluid leaks). I don't mind a bit of a mess as long as I can get where I need to go. It sounds like nobody had anything really bad to report. I suspect I can put up with the normal stuff associated with Jag ownership. I own a Mercedes (wife's ride) and haven't been exactly happy with the way it holds up. I keep hearing the Jags are doing better than the Germans in terms of reliability. I will likely find a used very low mile car, as mentioned above. Let someone else take the major hit. While I would like to check out the 'new' XJ coming out I try to stay away from first year cars. If I waited a year after launch, well, I just can't wait that long. I'm still a bit nervous but what the heck, the worst thing that happens is I take a hit and buy something else. I'll blame it all on Nanuq anyway. Now I have to check if I can get the union jack painted on a XJ
  8. Thanks The Zigmeister! I just wish they could get the seconds at 6 in the same range. btw- I've heard the soprod chrono modules cause the seconds to be a bit of a jerky as well. I don't own either so I can't compare.
  9. Although I have always loved the looks of the XJ Jaguars I never considered owning one due to reliability issues. Well now I'm doing what I thought I would never do; I'm considering buying a XJ8. From the reading I've done it seems the issues have been greatly improved on the newest series but I would like to hear from any members that have knowlege on the subject. I'm aware of the air suspension issues but what else could you tell me? Also, I know they are working on an updated version for 2010 or 2011 but I can't wait that long. Thanks in advance for the help!
  10. It would mean people are selling reps illegally, which would never happen here. In all seriousness, I suspect well into the 10's of thousands over the years. I'm sure we have had at least a 1000 members that buy on a regular basis.
  11. That is not even close. I don't mind the gen but the rep just doesn't get close.
  12. Another excellent review! Man, I'm so close to getting this one but the sunken date just jumps out at me. Still tempting. Thanks!
  13. Great review! I'm always surprised by how much watch you can get for so little money. I only wish it had sapphire but for the price one can't fault the watch. Thanks for the writeup!
  14. 24mm strap. The length will depend on your wrist size. You can buy spring bars but stock bars are screwed in. The straps will work with either style.
  15. Everbody needs a break from time to time. I'm sure he will be back and cheery as ever.
  16. It looks like a wonderful event! Congrats and thank you for sharing it with us!
  17. I NEED one of those high tech case back removers. No more duct tape for this guy!
  18. Great news! Best to the growing family!!!
  19. I heard he is the President of a natural gas production and distribution venture. MOFO still owes me a ride in his bird.
  20. "Great nations rise and fall. The people go from bondage to spiritual truth, to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency, from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependence, from dependence back again to bondage." That's it! I'm buying a plot of land down the road from Chez Nanuq and turning it into the sacred land of The People's United Front for Horology and Democracy!
