Boutique Officine Panerai in Florence, worth a trip?
Chicken Manny replied to pafre's topic in The Panerai Area
I would check it out. The boutique is right next to Duomo so there will be plenty of other things to see while you are there. The walk from the boutique to the Ponte Vecchio is full of watch shops worth checking out as well. -
This 'tip' has been around for some time. The kind of mothball you mention is made of "naphthalene" which is a hydrocarbon, like gasoline. It's C10H8, and it looks like two benzene rings fused together. Benzene makes a very smoky fire when burned, so my guess is that naphthalene would make a lousy gasoline. On the other hand since it's just carbon and hydrogen (like gasoline) naphthalene probably wouldn't do any harm to the engine either. Another type of mothball which COULD potentially hurt things is made of dichlorobenzene. That won't improve your car's performance either, but since it throws chlorine into the mix, it can produce HCl as a byproduct when burned. For those of you who don't remember your high school chemistry, HCl is hydrochloric acid, the stuff that burns through almost anything it touches. And pumping HCl through your engine and exhaust system is probably not very good for its longevity. One of the other key things to remember is that octane has no affect on the amount of power released from gasoline. It only determines how stable it is under pressure.

I can't think of a better reason than your children to refocus on your priorities. Best wishes and see you back soon. Cheers, CM

Urban Legend or True (White Gold Day-Date)
Chicken Manny replied to Codammanus-2014's topic in The Rolex Area
The watch was not all that hard to order a couple years ago, so I'm not sure if there was a post. I don't know if a photo (or my photos) would show the color from WG to SS but I can say that they do look different. EL was one of our best dealers at the time and he had to order it. It looks great but simply doesn't show the weight of SOLID WG. If anyone is looking for an old Swiss EL DayDate in WG, let me know. It's the best I have seen but not as heavy as the gen. A solid gold bracelet would take care of most of that. -
Great news! Welcome! Vote as soon and often as possible. Even if you don't agree with me.

I own a day/date from EL that was a special order watch (370 bucks). It took a couple weeks but was plated in some metal that looked to be WG. I scratched off the plating to see an under layer but the outside looked like WG to me. In the end I didn't give it out to a family member but it still looks like WG to me. The weight is the tell. Nice watch but not as heavy as the gen. -
It does help, Thanks!

Thanks Ubi!!! Great info. It looks like the setup is just like I thought. Any tips on how to pull apart the links without causing damage? I can imagine prying them apart with the wrong tool could mess them up a bit. Cheers, CM

Great posts Gents! I just picked up one of the supreme models from PT and plan to do a number of mods (crystal, bezel, insert). I have two questions I can't seem to find the answer to under search. The two areas that I'm ignorant on is the disassembly of the bracelet and using a gen dial. I assume the bracelet connects to the end links via a pin pressed into place but I'm not sure how to remove it without causing damage. I want to see about attaching a noob bracelet to the existing SEL and using the existing clasp with looks good (to my eyes). Also, what is required to use a gen dial? I figure dial feet are a given but what about DW lining up and anything else I'm not aware of???? Thanks for the help!! Cheers, CM PS.. Anyone have an extra hollow midlink bracelets they want to sell?

For you Euromariner and WM9 builders...
Chicken Manny replied to ubiquitous's topic in The Rolex Area
Wow! I'm out. The bids just flew past my snipe. That is a load of money for a couple parts. The insert is less than 100 bucks from an AD. Over 300 buck for the bezel??? You can get an aftermarket solid 18kt one for less than that. I think I'm going to into the gen bezel business. -
You guys are right about the bracelet being too small. I didn't notice it at first. Why in the world would they not put a good solid bracelet on this thing.
-
I'm sure someone's does.

I never thought I would say this again about a RLX but I think I might actually pick this up as a gen.

Yes,before you say it, that is me at the last SF GTG.

I owned a 2001 and loved it. The only warnings I would put out there is the all aluminum body can only be repaired by specialist so any damage can get expensive (for you or your insurance). Also, here in the states it takes forever to get parts for the A8, unless things have changed since then.

McCain picks Alaska Gov. as running mate

My wife and I were just watching a news program on her and they showed her shooting an AR-15. My wife looked over at me and said "So now you are in love with her?" My response... "Yes I am!!!!!!!" She is twice the maverick of McCain, which makes me want her even more. -
Oh man, I was waiting for the photos at the bottom... What a great buddy to have. I can't wait to see it. I have a old pressure tester as well. It holds pressure but doesn't look like it would. I kinda dig the look of it anyway.

Great looking watch...crap movement There are some mods you can do that might improve the movement but they are less than perfect. Maybe someday a real seconds at six movement will bring my Port back to life. I do love the thing despite it being a turd.
