I think the shine may be more of a result of age and years of rubbing and oil build-up (the gen forums are adamant about NOT cleaning aged PVD cases) ... probably similar to what some people are looking for when they CapeCod their PVD cases.

Here you go... gen 28A case in warm late-afternoon light and cooler early-morning light. Quick pics, so focus is a bit off. I'll try some other lighting situations as the finish changes in almost every room.

What you've done with these 2 pieces is amazing. I have a strong liking for power-reserves and these 2 REALLY make the grade... good job sss!
And the pics are excellent as well.

I'll see the original owner this weekend at our local GTG and try to find out more info on the dial. I have received several PM's asking me specifically about the dial.

It's actually a much more durable coating... DLC. It was done by Forum member Avitt who offers the service. Highly recommended. I have yet to see any recent PVD coatings that come even close. The finish is way more durable and is quite beautiful in person,

It' in a shadow... check out the 2nd pic in my OP. These coatings do strange things in different lighting situations. But the match between the cg and case is perfect. Avitt does amazing DLC finishes.

It's a great rep for sure... the previous owner put together an amazing combination of mods. Found this gen pic of the same model @ RG which happened to be shot at a similar angle as one of my rep pics... notice the "L SWISS L" spacing and size is spot-on as well as most of the #'s.

Thanks! The one thing that bugs me is that I'm use to having more detail in the highlights. This p and s blows them out too easily, but hey, for the cost I ain't complaining.

Got my first point and shoot today (have always been anchored down by studio cameras). Haven't read the manual yet, but it's pretty much typical Canon intuitive.
So once I got into macro mode it was time for the first test shots. Put on the new Simona and liked the results on full auto.

Great post! and good timing as I have the same FGD dial coming my way and a Jimmy case... just hadn't decided what to do with either as they were purely "opportunity" purchases. Your post made my decision easy. Thanks!

Here we go again... I was late for work this morning when I saw this project at RG and could not stop looking at it AND now it's here and I'll probably be late for my 5 o'clock class.
