What's your favorite / best Davidsenjpn / DSN?
deltatahoe replied to DuDro's topic in The Panerai Area
i was waiting for someone to mention the 232 -- it's my only DSN watch i own, and it is very nice (it will be even nicer when i get a chance to install the more accurate darker brown dial he sent me). don't hesitate for one second on the 232 (yes vic, i'm talking to you ) -- it's probably my most unique pam. deltatahoe -
a quick thought before you spend money on a strap -- i bought a genuine black rubber strap for my black dial sfso, but when i received the watch, i ended up loving it on the stainless steel bracelet. the bracelet is extremely well made, and the brushed look of the bracelet goes great with the watch. i realize lots of people like the sfso on a strap, but IMHO this one should be worn on a bracelet (and as you can probably tell from my collection, i am a big fan of watches on straps). just something to think about... deltatahoe

was about to suggest lexol as well -- it's good stuff. good luck w/ the rash chief deltatahoe

just figured i would break down what this would actually cost if you bought this directly from one of our collectors: b&r 42mm w/ date = $158 extra velcro strap = $30 shipping = $30 grand total = $218 ajoesmith price = $160-170 (depending on payment method) savings = $48-58 i would have guessed there would be at least a couple more members interested at this price, particularly given this is the most accurate wearable (ie. NOT 46mm) b&r rep available.... deltatahoe

looks much better anton i'd definitely recommend a double AR coated crystal on the 187. takes the watch to a whole new level...

bump for this group buy. fwiw, this is huge savings vs. buying one of these on your own, especially given it includes a velcro strap. @ajoesmith, be sure to let your dealer know that you want the velcro strap w/ stainless steel buckle instead of the pvd buckle... deltatahoe

i voted for the PO. get off to a nice humble start; bring out the big hitters later deltatahoe

i'm in for a ss version as well... what is your estimate for the timing on this?

i've inquired with angus (pure time) to see if he could see about finding a watch that has as few of the known issues (off-centered pearl, misaligned & unevenly sculpted rider tabs) as possible; i'll try to remember to post here when i hear back from him... deltatahoe

this is good advice. there are plenty of great watches (uPO, steelfish, sub, etc) you can wear in the water with normal precautions (ie. have pressure tested and be sure to tighten case back, he valve and crown). why risk it with one of your chronographs? deltatahoe

thanks guys; it's been such a pleasure. RWG is the first 'online community' i have ever been a part of; i never would have thought you could meet so many diverse, interesting, intelligent people in an online forum. phew! feels good to have that 1,000th post out of the way -- now i can respond to threads without hesitation deltatahoe

so i've been putting off posting for several days because i've found myself at 999 posts and wanted to actually start a thread to say thanks to the many members who make RWG such a unique, interesting, fun and informative place. it's tempting to list off a bunch of names of various members that have made my experience on RWG particularly fulfilling, but i feel that would do an injustice to the numerous others that have posted helpful material here or taken the time to answer questions from a noob like me. i'd like to give a special thanks to our admin and moderators, who spend countless hours and hard earned dollars to keep this place up & running. and finally, let's not forget our trusted collectors, who provide access to a mind boggling assortment of watches. here's to a 1,000 more posts deltatahoe

i was thinking the exact same thing. if i can't get my current end links to fit my dw 6263 daytona (they are going to require some modding), i may contact joshua to see if he would sell just the bracelet & end links... deltatahoe

almost positive the rep is very close in size to the gen; this thing is surprisingly big. but with the clean white dial and the black alligator strap, it still looks relatively dressy. a good combination of sporty and dressy if you ask me... deltatahoe

a quick note here about the blackbird -- i emailed angus about this to see if he could source me a blackbird that didn't have this issue (or at least was "better" than the ones i've seen posted here), and he wrote back indicating that he discussed this flaw with the makers to see if they could make a new run of the 12:00 tab, and they were unwilling to do so, saying that 80% of the market is OK with this flaw. however, after seeing a pic of a member's gen skyland that appeared to have a similarly off-centered 12:00 tab (it very well could be due to the angle of the pics, but it sure looked off center to me), i'm thinking of giving the blackbird a shot.... hope this was helpful, deltatahoe

classic stuff doc. and a good story vic; i always love seeing nice watches out in public. as much as we drool over watches here, we are definitely hypersensitive to the subject...

so early on in my rep collecting, i purchased a cartier santos 100 automatic. when i first received it, i liked it quite a bit. however, i quickly became frustrated with the crappy rep strap, the light color of the blue cabochon and the terrible clasp. so i eventually sold the watch in an effort to downsize my collection somewhat and get rid of watches i never wore. however, i have to say i missed having the santos 100 in my collection. i really liked to clean white look of the dial, which was a nice combination of sporty and dressy. after hearing "new and improved osteopath" raving about the santos 100 chrono, i figured maybe it was worth giving a shot. so when i was trolling the trading board one afternoon this summer and saw richard lawton was selling his santos 100 chrono for an unbeatable price, i jumped on it. given i was traveling for work for most of this summer, i didn't get to see the watch for over a month. but when i got back, i was in for a real treat -- the santos 100 chrono exceeded my expectations by a huge margin. so i figured i would post about it and give five great things about the santos 100 chrono. the dial. the dial on this watch is REALLY nice -- probably the most crisp print of any of my replica watches. there has been quite a bit of discussion about there being two versions of the santos 100 chrono dial available (one that is the correct color and one that is too beige/cream colored). to be honest, i'm not sure whether i got one of the more accurate versions (any expert opinions would be appreciated), but either way i really like the look of this dial. the high(er) quality strap. the strap on my standard santos 100 had a very dull, matte finish that looked just plain crappy. moreover, it cracked very easily and just screamed fake. so when i bought the santos 100 chrono, i figured i would need to get hktan to make me a nice strap to go with this one. but when i got the watch, i was very pleasantly surprised with the quality of the strap that came on it. it has a nice sheen to it, and pretty convincing alligator-type grain. the cabochon (jewel in the crown) that is the correct (dark) color blue. for some reason the light color blue of the cabochon on the standard 100 chrono really bugged me (an obvious tell for anyone familiar with the santos 100). functioning clasp. the clasp on my standard santos 100 was really stubborn -- it would either get stuck and not want to come loose, or it wouldn't snap closed no matter how hard you tried (really frustrating). by comparison, the clasp on my santos 100 chrono opens & closes like a dream. use of the crown. the crownguards on my standard santos 100 were so big & bulky, i found it almost impossible to set the time or wind the watch to get it started. the chrono pushers on the santos 100 chrono have a smaller profile, which make winding and setting the time on this watch much easier. ok, enough discussion about the watch -- time for some pictures.... the nice dial two pics of the nice shiny strap the nice clasp & dark blue cobochon and finally the low-profile chrono pushers, rounding out a really nice watch one last thing i would mention about this watch is its size -- this is a big watch. the standard santos 100 is large, and this one is even bigger. square watches generally wear bigger than round watches of a similar size (anyone who's tried on a 46mm b&r knows this in spades), and this one is no exception. i hope you enjoyed the short review; many thanks to richard lawton for a great deal on a beautiful watch deltatahoe note: i edited this post when i saw rocket754's post about the correct standard santos 100 dial; i never intended this post to detract from his project or the standard santos 100

interesting. looks like you've got a zenith el primero (w/ movement used for ubi's infamous daytonas), some sort of hublot (i've personally never seen a non-big bang hublot) and a speedy moon watch. on the whole, some very nice watches/choices. if the price was right on that zenith, i bet you'd have multiple takers from RWG's membership.... good luck w/ the sale deltatahoe

Cousteau Lume, they are challenging but fun.

i'm getting excited -- my costeau is on the schedule for a ziggy spa treatment at the end of the month deltatahoe -
Ever thought of foregoing your collection?
deltatahoe replied to anton's topic in General Discussion
that's a tough one anton -- i know i'd have a hard time doing it. i'd probably rather wait till i could afford to just buy the watch before selling most of my reps and/or gens to get that "grail watch". many times the pleasure involved with the realization of a fantasy (e.g. getting your "grail watch") can be disappointing, particularly after the initial high has worn off. it would be sad to have sold many or all your reps/gens and then wish you hadn't. just my $0.02, deltatahoe -
here's his response: -------------- I got it from a friend here in CA. he told me he got it from Tourneau Could you please email me the pics of an H series movement. Thanks -------------- some friend, huh? hopefully he can get his money back....

sent him an email asking where he bought this (& mentioned the movement didn't look quite right); we'll see what he says deltatahoe

i was wondering when someone would post a review of this one; it looks like a top-quality rep. i'll be honest -- it's going to be hard to hold off on this one given your pictures and review. i think this one could look great on a gen black rubber strap (which i happen to have sitting in my watch drawer) deltatahoe btw, just noticed your avatar picture is of the blue angels; they are here in sf this weekend for fleet week -- always a good time.

definitely interested; you have PM
