Okay! This is good. That's what I wanted to hear. Thanks for the speedy reply! Do you know if the MBK 1680 case will have to be drilled and tapped?

Gentlemen and ladies, I recently picked up an old school MBK 1680 from another member. It was advertised as having a gen crown. The tube (clearly not a gen tube) is worn out so I ordered and have received a 703 tube. After further examination of the crown I found that it looks like (from the outside) the gen 703 crown on my 16610 but it does not have the skirt on the inside that slips down on the large o-ring on the case tube. What crown might this be...if it is gen. Additionally, it will not screw down on the new 703 tube. This is a red flag to me. Would another Rolex 7mm crown have different threads to screw down on the tube? I thought that had not changed. (Me thinks it might be the original MBK crown.) One sure fix for my problem is to order a gen 703 crown to go with the new 703 tube. Is this a real bad gig (on a 1680) or have 702 crowns and tubes been replaced with 703s. Many of the 1680s on eBay look like they have 703 setups. Thanks a million! M

You can find a list of trusted dealers on the main page of this forum. Take a look...

Don't know why you'd say that. It is just a 24 hour wheel. When Andrew says 2813 he probably means 3804b. A GMT movement should work. the gearing might be a little different.

want to put together a 16XX or 16XXX please help

You should first decide if you want to go the modern route (i.e. no lugholes, thicker case, sapphire glass), or if you would rather take the vintage route, (i.e. lugholes, thinner case, plastic crystal, etc. Using a 16000 case is a fairly easy and straight-forward build. The only caveat to that is that the gen dial must be mounted on a non-gen movement. There are many tutorials here that can help with that. I like to build watches, (using gen components) that have not been repped, like these two. A 16013 (Two-tone) and 16014 (S Steel and white gold). They are both 16000 cases and gen dials. Both have a Swiss-made ETA 2836. Hands and crystal comes from Clark's ebay store...nostalgia-2000. -
Take a look at the post on this page titled "My Christmas Presents Have Arrived".

I have also noticed that a gen sub always looks large. Not sure why, except for the fact that the bezel teeth have never been replicated quite the same as the gen.
-
Thanks! I sent off another request today. Maybe he just doesn't want to sell the mid-case and back. I bought the Mk1 bezel from him a few months ago. Now I'm getting serious about a 1655.
-
Just wondering... I have sent him 4 emails over the past two months trying to purchase his 1655 mid-case and back and no word. Does anyone know anything about Hendro?
-
Toro says his watch is 16mm thick when most are 13.5mm. That's a big difference.

It is my understanding that the 42mm v5 PO is the best choice if you want to mod with gen parts. Most gen parts fit.

Does anyone know the answers to these questions?

What dealer?

Been reading a lot on this forum but still have just a little confusion. Been on the Rolex forum for years but have not looked at other brands. (Now I feel so cheap and unfaithful.) lol I am interested in a v5 (or Gen 5) 42mm PO for modding. Questions are... 1. How do I know that it is v5 or Gen 5 as Trevor is the only TD that lists a V5 42mm PO? Is that the one? 2. Also, Josh is advertising a Super Ultimate 42mm PO w/2824 but when I asked if it is V5 he sent me an email of how good it is and how many he has sold but not if it is the V5. Is it a V5? (The V5 or Gen 5 seems to be a benchmark for modding since it accepts gen parts.) 3. Is this a moot point because all of them come from the same factory? 4. Given the difference in stem height from 2824 to 2836, which is more desirable...gen-like? 5. On the new CrPO and LMPO with the exhibition case back...is the gen movement some variation of the ETA movement. If not, is that not a mistake to have an exhibition case back? (That would be like having an exhibition case back on a Sub with a DG2813 showing through the window. Thanks, in advance for the information. MT

Angus' ad says that he will have them in July. Was that an old posting or is he not getting any until July '14?
-
I'm a Rollie guy and am usually in that forum but I really want a PO to franken. I do not understand the nomenclature. Could someone point me to Angus' LMPO. I do not understand LMPO.

Well, now that's odd.

I treated mine with some chain wax (White Lightning Clean Ride) and it is very gen feeling, for a 40 year old bracelet...solid, no jingle. Watches should not jingle, LOL. I like it.

It doesn't matter about what watch style it is. The stem needs to be one that is made for the movement you have. If it is ETA movement, just search eBay for a winding stem for ETA 2824-2 or 2836-2. They are all the same. If the movement is a Chinese made movement then you would need a stem for a...DG 2813, most likely. The most worrisome thing is getting the length right. They all come much too long and have to be clipped down to fit just right. The job can be easy or it can be rather difficult. Rebuilding the keyless works (which you will probably have to do) involves: Uncasing the movement Removing the hands Removing the dial and then... Resetting the keyless works. I have photos if you need them. If you have never done it, it is a good experience if you ever want to service your own movement.

JMB has made a few of those great bezels. A'la riveted bracelet. JMB furnished the bracelet, as well. It has been a good and quiet bracelet. No holes in the rivets though. (Yes...those are H5 wheels and they are likely to stay that way until I need them for something else.)

Just wondering if anyone has one of these. I have the balance [censored], just need the wheel and hair spring. Have money...will pay. The word that appears [censored], is c-o-c-k...balance c-o-c-k.

Where do you live in the CONUS that is 10,000 miles from Dallas? You said you were looking for a watch in the CONUS.

+ 1 You have to make a tool to grab the jumper spring and pull it in (gently). It's very doable.
