  1. Well, he ended the sale. It had 27 days to go. Maybe the watchmaker found the problem when he removed the back...huh? Or maybe some poor schmuck bought it. Hope not. I hope he found out that it was bad and took it down.
  2. Ditto! I usually have two shallow dishes, one with pure laundry bleach and the other with clear water. I put the insert in the bleach for 20- 25 sec.+- and then take it out and put it in the water. Then I inspect it and repeat the process. Nothing seems to happen for a couple of minutes but once the shiny glaze on the surface turns dull it will change very quickly. Just keep repeating the process until it looks like what you want.
  3. Maybe he'll have a picture of the movement tomorrow. Then we'll know exactly what it is. Or...I could send him another message advising him that there are some problems with this watch...that at best it has some aftermarket parts installed...or, at worst, it is a purpose-built replica. If he is an honorable seller it should disappear, at least, until he can check it out.
  4. Look on Yuki's website and compare. Especially the cgs from the back. This is a brand-new, un-modded Yuki case. It may still have a 1575 beating in its heart. If it doesn't then someone has balls big enough to come in a dumptruck. Some of our members have built, virtually, the same watch. Thanks to you for not listing it on the bay for $6,400...even though you may have that much in it.
  5. I sent message asking to see pic of m'ment. He said he would get it to his watchmaker and have pic by midweek. I will probably let him off the hook as I am not interested in the watch. Don't want to cost him money or trouble. Also, I think the CGS look more sub-like, which I believe is a problem with a Yuki case. I thought the rehaut was wokky, as well. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2
  6. I sent this... Just wondered if I could see a pic of the movement. Thanks! Mike
  7. Think I'll send him an email and ask for a pic of the movement. He has some very nice watches but only 200+ sales with 100% satisfaction. He obviously thinks it is gen.
  8. What about this $6,400. 1675? Looks like one of our reps to me. Which one of you guys sold this to him? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rolex-GMT-Master-Steel-Pepsi-Cola-Bezel-Ref-1675-/231148100994?pt=Wristwatches&hash=item35d1801d82 GMT arrowhead is not equilateral , rehaut is wokky, date mag is weak, bezel looks like WSO bezel. Maybe I'm wrong.
  9. Not sure, but I do not believe they are on the trusted dealer list. The trusted dealers are dealers that have won that position over time, by dealing honestly and reliably. If you purchase from someone not on that list you are on your own and good luck.
  10. No...sorry, I never did measure one. I have used three of his dials though. I have used two in 1675s and haven't had a problems with any. Just a note...JMBs cases are not lug-drilled, so if you get one from him have him go ahead and drill the lugs. And you'll need his bezel. None like it...except gen...$$$$$$.
  11. It will. I have one in my jmb case. And yes...those are h5 wheels. I had the movement set up for something else. I may change it some day.
  12. Not sure what you mean, Cats. Everyone here puts gen parts on their reps. Anyway, I bought it like this. And I do like it.
  13. Thanks! I was hoping for that.
  14. Attention all vintage 1680 gurus! Do you believe that this insert is gen? Also, do you believe the crystal is gen? The mag is certainly right. Thanks! P. S. I know the CGs need some work. This is a project.
  15. Also, go with Josh at Perfect Clones and forget the other dealer. Josh has been a TD here for a long time and we have had excellent service from him. The last watch I ordered, I had it in hand in 6 days...amazing!
  16. Well, now I am in a quandary. I have received the Rolex 703 tube and crown and they are beautiful. I ran my tap (3mm X .35, the one I have used several times) through the MBK 1680 case and it runs through just fine, but the tube will not screw in. It goes about 1 to 1.5 turns and then locks up tight. I have also a WSO 703 tube that I tried and...same thing. When I lay the tap down beside the tubes, they appear to be a different thread size from the tap. Anybody got any words of wisdom before I drill this out and epoxy it in there.
  17. Are we the ones who are driving the prices of gen parts and ETA movements?
  18. @mcotter - The way this hobby is going one needs a line of credit at the bank. I paid $117 for a tube a crown, but that is not the worst thing. The worst thing is that I thought it was a good deal. What is going on with me? I will have more money in this piece and all the rest combined. Sad...sad! M
  19. There is a case tube tool (with multiple bits) on eBay for about $34. I know nothing of the quality but I will know soon.
  20. Thanks, Nanuq! I will do that. I think this might be my last build. Thanks to this forum, I have built two DJs from gen cases and parts, a 1016, using JMBs stuff, 1655, 1675 El Cornino, 5513, and an MBK 16610, that has morphed over time, with TCs Superlumed dial, hands, DWO and V3 bracelet with V4 clasp. I would love to launch into a 'tona project, but I do not think that I have "The Right Stuff" for that. I might just work on the others.
  21. I was wondering about beveling. It seems that when we retrofit a gen tube to a rep 16610 case, we need to bevel the entrance to the drilling because the gen tube seat is beveled where it meets the case. Can this be done with a drill bit or is a special beveling bit necessary to make a smooth cut?
  22. Mymanmatt does an excellent job but, alternatively, about two years ago I sent a pic from ebay of a TT lady DJ to Silix and they matched it perfectly. It has an ETA 2671 and after two years the watch is still great. Gold is all on there. My wife is an occasional wearer (2 or 3 days/wk.) She is not hard on a watch, but this one has been good.
  23. Thanks auto. That's what I was hoping for. I have the drill and tap and have done it a couple of times but I do not have a drill press so it is frightening to do it freehand. It's much easier to just run the tap through there and clean up the threads.
