Change in view regarding rep markets/argument
ammandel replied to vulcangascompany's topic in General Discussion
Careful Teej, some of these guys will rip your head off for insinuating that Rolex are made in China Btw, your Plati banner looks gooooood -
What strikes me in these pictures is how polished your CG looks, I commented recently on Lani's BK WM9 Sub that also had a super polished CG which is (I've found) a real gen feature that most reps skip out on... Any extra effort go into this?

I second that the seawolf is a better choice, its a really impressive piece and the caseback is perfect also. The SOSF suffers from an uber dodgy lume job (which is a big part of the SOSF dial) and always gives it away in pictures, it isn't about lume strength, its about how the gen has obvious perfect circles and large circles. On the rep; the huge circles would need to be perfect or you'd always notice them being dodgy shapes and this'd annoy you in time I imagine. If you need anymore persuading:

Thats great CF, all you need now is a BK WM9 LV on pre order and you'll be the complete icon to mirror your sig Hah!

Who Sells The Best Rep of The Daytona Black/Red Limited Edition?
ammandel replied to Lee's topic in The Rolex Area
Hi Lee, and well.. this isn't one of the reps that varies that much really within our circles. You could go ahead and order that one right there. Theres no real reason to push the repping of this too hard as far as the factories are concerned because the gen is only made in white gold, and there's a significant weight and 'look' difference. -
Hey Lani, and thanks for being the medium by which I was able to get this idea out in the open Couldn't have done it without ya About the graphics; In another thread you wrote about how I'm currently assisting you with the presentation of your signature, your dedication to this community and willingness to act inspired me to do something for the community. With somewhat of a 'marketing' background, I came up with an idea based on principles of the community. Since early history for humans iconography has been important, and has always linked with not only our commitments but our communities. Whether it be family crests in medieval times, coloured paints in tribesmen, or uniforms of servicemen. Proudness to show a bind to something through imagery is prominent, and admired. Based on the original logo created for Lani, the idea of letting people know that communities are made by those within was important to me, and as such for supporters and platinum members I wanted them to be able to show some kind of proud uniformity through their contributions. The kind of iconography that other people would aspire to, if a thread is full of people posting with these graphics, maybe it'll make you want to be part of the 'group' too. Platinum members & supporters have already 'given', and through that they are making the statement that they are willing to uphold and be responsible for this community; they have 'taken hold.' As for the graphics themselves, the main thing was to make a colour distinction between the 2, but keep the format of design the same. The supporter logo shows a person 'taking hold' of the screen, this strong imagery speaks the volume, and says "See, I did something for this community, and I'm proud of it" and of course, almost no RWG'er would be without a Sub on the wrist Platinum members represent much of what the supporters do, but these guys are serious about what they believe in and they were able to make the large contribution, the big step. The logo represents then the values of the 'extra' step. The statement is 'stronger', the hand rocks the famed 'RWG' ring (did ya notice??), and this guys Sub is no normal Sub, it's the LV.

Thanks for the kind words guys, and yes - hopefully there will be something for supporters & plati's coming soon!

The WM9 is such a special replica, between the pages of Laz's gen and your WM9 Lani I think you guys have made the sub really appealing to me.. and I've already got one! The 1 thing that the WM9 looks like it paid attention to that really stands out (at least to me) on the gen is the polished extreme shine look of the CG's, would I be correct to say this Lani?

Where would I ever be without you L, thanks bro!

Thanks all for the help, it looks to me like it'd be easier and qiucker for me to buy the bergeon tool than to order something from Ofrei being in the UK.. I guess I'll find a 6111 on the bay or something! Freddy, I didn't say you directly recommended it but that you posted a link that suggested the use of the 3153!

I think you are right about the problem, I hope you are able to fix it somehow! All reps will vary in water-proofness particularly chronographs with extra buttons. A simple Submariner with a good tight screw down crown and a tightly fitted caseback should be able to sustain a good amount of water though. Mine does!

The bezel can easily get clogged up with dirt and grime which would cause the movement of it to change, it is easy to remove and clean the 'teeth' in the bezel construction which should solve your problem, there are a number of guides to help you remove the bezel from a sub. Heres one I just googled: Clicky

I apologise in advance as I know theres a number of threads about this but I'd like there to be a concise answer from some of you knowledgable folks I currently own 0 tools for these reps, aside from having a small set of loupes 2x 5x and 10x. This means I am even unable to detach bracelets, rubber & leather straps. As such I am in the market for a versatile and high quality strap removal tool. Research guides me to 3 models all of which I am unsure how they differ and which one would be able to be used in DIFFERENT applications or whether I need to buy a separate one for a Rolex bracelet, and for a leather & rubber strap.. Here are the 3; and if you have any information I would be grateful! Bergeon 6767 - Found one of these on (Ebay) Bergeon 6111 - As suggested by Toadtorrent in this post Bergeon 3153 - And in a separate thread; Freddy333 posted this link which suggests the use of this tool For some additional information, my collection and the watches I am going to be using the tools for are a Rolex Submariner, a Breitling Seawolf (Rubber strap but bracelet soon to be purchased..), and an IWC Portofino (Leather). With that said and explained, how do they differ and which one is best for me? Thanks in advance all!

I've played CS for the last 7 years and continue to play, also playing L4D. It would be truely truely great to get a L4D RWG group going actually. Would love to get some of the guys like By-Tor and Lanikai into it! How awesome would that be? edit; I may actually begin an RWG steam community group if we get any interest!

Cool video, but this movement to me looks like its main function is to give shock absorption to the rotor? Say a shock happens half way around the rotors turn, so.. the rotor doesnt make a full rotation and may miss out on a single wind, is this a major problem? I thought it was not shocks to the rotor but shocks and disturbances to mainspring that causes problems and timekeeping inaccuracies. Seems like a bit of a 'lets put a suspension system on it just to say its got one' marketing gimmick to me. But what do I know!
-
It's for the power reserve Toady? I don't understand what you don't understand edit: Also in the pictures there is a rotor in the back, so I guess its not a hand wound movement either! Nice spot Pho

Let me be the first then to congratulate you and wish you all the best for tomorrow! If it was me; if your 'to-be' has a favourite from your collection. I'd go with that one, I'm sure it'll work in your favour in the end Then again, didn't you buy the Daytona for your wedding day?
-
Lol Cyber, 3 threads in an hour? You could have turned them all into 1: "My new arrival, and updated collection" then had a picturefest. Easier for people to give feedback too.. just an idea

This collection of gens is unbelievable..! We're lucky to have you round here ! btw, does your Exp II need a new home? edit: You know, you should charge all the lumes with a big lamp and take a big gen superlume shot!

Iron balls and $3k to lose? I'm really at a loss with how to deal with this.. to be honest. Surely people must be making gen transactions US/UK without paying 15/17.5%. + 4.5% on top !! Anyone else have any input?
-
Hey guys, I need your help as I'm buying my first gen (pre-owned). It looks like I could get some pretty good deals online by buying on TZ or Watchnet. The problem is the majority of the sellers are based in the US and quite simply.. I don't want to pay an excessive import tax! Anyone from the UK purchased from TZ or watchnet? How did you approach the costs and security/insurance issues? Alternatively does anyone from the EU or anything have any information or help you can give me? I'm at the point where I'm thinking I'll perhaps have to buy just within the UK!

Seawolf on a Sunny Day
-
For me around that size is perfect for functional use; I've said before in a post that a real part of the enjoyment of watches for me is that we stare at massively huge pictures of these pieces on our screens, and when they get delivered they are tiny in comparison! It seems novel and wonderful at the same time. Rolex sports models Sub/GMT II are a perfect wristwatch size I think really as far as functionality and wearability. You don't have to go to extra effort to remember that you have high value easily markable object attached to your wrist, and the clarity is good enough to allow perfect legability. When wearing something like my Seawolf, other people notice it more.. theres more to notice! but things like the elasticated cuffs of leather jackets become an issue, do I have it stretching the elastic underneath the jacket cuff or do I have it lower and sticking out of the jacket exposed to the worlds sharp edges?! I can't get it under shirt cuffs either! And thats with a seawolf, not even the largest of the Breitlings! The other issue is (and no offense to large watch enthusiasts) that after the short popularity a while back with big watches, they gained an image as 'tacky', where imitation watches and cheap watches in general were all made oversized just to tag along with the fashions. Of course bigger isnt better in the watch world, and the smaller the timepiece is, the smaller and more detailed/precise its components have to be! I'm against Rolex moving the Datejust size to 41mm, the current 36mm is perfect for what is essentially a simplistic timeless design which speaks volumes through its design staple and heritage rather than its mere 'wrist attendance'. The Datejust was supposed to use its large shine from its small size to speak volumes about understated elegance and class without being obscene and gaudy. *a la Jacob & Co.* So yeah! I like small watches. I'm not huge on PAMS really, I love the 111 and there is something attractive about a PAM on a chick but I think for the most part they all look alike.. ! *Insert Lynch Mob Here!*
-
Does anyone know if you can fit a Gen Seawolf dial in the case?
-
All these brands, surely everyone knows the only brand a lady would recognise and be impressed by is a Rolex! and EVEN then, they'd equate Rolex with a 18K/TT Datejust *Prepares to be grilled for being realistic
