Nice Gen Longines - With Cool Complications
kingkitesurf replied to fotoman's topic in General Discussion
Which Longines is this? I like it a lot... -
Randy, This is a beautiful piece. So well balanced that it will never ever bore you looking at it. I must say I like the GMT's better and better every day... It actually surpasses the Submariner and is running in on Vinnie Seadwellers... faded pepsi 1675 on jubilee should be your next project if you ask me
-
That is very professional The Zigmeister, to communicate like this... I was about to ask you to relume and service two 1665 MBW's... Guess I will wait till november then... Cheers.

OK here it goes... I finally received my gen Tropic #39 super-duper dome... this one is soooo cool... From left to right: Gen vintage #39 superdome (150$), regular MBW tropic (comes with the watch), gen #39 normal dome (105$), Heflands #39 flat but with a custom made bevel (9$ + some work), regular Heflands #39 (9$). You definitely see the difference... You decide whether its worth the difference in money. The three flat #39 (gen, custom Heflands, standard Heflands) The two domed ones... Gen super, MBW standard, gen 'flat' Here you see how I made a bevel in the middle one (at the top) to look like the gen flat.

Yep PT has great timepieces... I have his GMT master and it gets most wristtime. His shipping is lightning fast... almost next day delivered in my case. He did get screwed over with Paypal... I understand him. You can thrust PT but indeed make sure you are communicating with him... So did you send him a email message via his website or via his dealer info here on the board no worries... If not...then be careful. Sending cash with registered mail in a carbon envelop is fine.... but Paypal is better because you have proof at least and then risks with shipping are more a dealer issue (and I have experience with confiscated watches! and cash payments).

Is the ETA stem reusable when replacing the crown for a gen one on a MBW 1665. I read on the forum here that the stem thread is the same (10) but what about the lenght. Any good tips on how to get it out without specific tools and if needed where to buy the correct (longer or shorter) one? I am looking for experienced opinions. Thanks.

A (good ?) Bezel For 1665 And Others Mbw
kingkitesurf replied to fellfell's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
The Timeman dials have a real bad misalignement of the Rolex 'L' under the coronet. Timezoneand Doubleredseadweller.com warn about this to look for in fakes. Kind of ironic to replace the dial with a expensive dial that actually screams fake/ the so called expert redial. Save your money. A real one is hard and expensive to come by and the added value minimal IMHO. Better to shape CG's, caseback and replace the crystal and a gen insert (which is also hard to come by). -
I have been doing 6 hours of modding this weekend on my MBW 1665. These are the first results after modding the caseback and the crownguards... I really start to like this project... Now I have to install the gen #39 superdome (I am still waiting on its arrival) and crown and tube (waiting on the thread cutting tool). Drill the lug holes to fit gen springbars (have to buy cobalt 1,2 and 2 mm bits). I am still on the lookout for a good bezel... if you have suggestions please PM me.

For me I used to think 500$ was my max... It still is somehow but since I discovered the enormous satisfaction I get from modding I am willing to go further... but that would not be by 'paying someone' to do mods. I would only spend it on genuine parts that would make a visual more perfect and usable rep. Waterproofing, gen crystal, gen crown, better engravings etc. As I do most of it myself it is not much more expensive exept for the material. I like the hunt for cheap gen parts as well. It is hard to reach 500$ anyway.... a vj72 for a DW 6263 will do the job.... and I would definitely go for that...

Waterproof Watch Testers
kingkitesurf replied to TJGladeRaider's topic in Technical and helpful information
Very informative post... Mod this should be in the KB indeed. Now where can one purchase testing machines... TJ are those Bulova vintage ones that just work with airvaccuum and a soapbubble solution on the leak areas usable... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...A%3AIT&rd=1 or is that for rain and sneezeproofness -
You need the 24-7030 tube and the 24-703 crown. You can find some on the bay (watch out for fakes). I have a spare gen crown (the one on the left or right). 28$ shipped worldwide I can let go of one. The tube can be bought at ofrei.

Thanks Randy, I suspected that a bit... It will be installed on my WM DRSD 1665 The version even before that did not have the three dots didn't it?
-
Experts, These are three gen Rollie 7mm trip lock crowns that were sent to me. The middle one has a smaller longer crown. To which era and watches did they belong?
-
I'dd go for Vintage stuff. If you don't like rollies just have a look at vintage pepsi GMT master 1675 with jubilee bracelet. This is functional beauty at it's top. Example... http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-ROLEX-OYSTER-G...1QQcmdZViewItem This is a very distinguishable recognizable beauty... that will never bore, grow on you more and more and eventually will not depreciate but rather increase in value. If I only had the money....

Watch this... for a paper document of a DRSD from '72... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...A:IT&ih=004 Where is this ending...

Gmt-master Ii And Explorer Ii, The New Generation
kingkitesurf replied to chrgod's topic in The Rolex Area
I have that same set and really the Pepsi is so much better than black and red again. It has become my daily beater. The Expl2 indeed is a beauty... only your bezel looks much better than mine... with me the numbers are against the outer rim... -
New Rollie Gmt Model, Modified Eta 2836-2
kingkitesurf replied to RWG Technical's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
What you see is the hour hand gear... But anyway the GMT hand gear dit not get loose from the tube when taking the gmt hand of... twice went without budging. The watch really runs great. -
Does anybody now if the Asian 7750B1 as Andrew advertises them (in Breitlings for example) are the new fast beat 28.800 movement or the old style lower beat Asians. The new one is supposed to be much more reliable and a higher beat (according to The Zigmeister's post). Please advise.

New Rollie Gmt Model, Modified Eta 2836-2
kingkitesurf replied to RWG Technical's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
I have a TWG correct hand stacked Explorer2 working fine and a PT GMT2 with 'wrong handstack' working super... I have them 6 months approx. Both are adjusted 2836-2. TJ can you explain what the trouble was.... -
My First Mbw And Info From My Attempt To Mod It
kingkitesurf replied to MacDad22's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
Great story... nice reading.... A few tips however.... sounds like impatience is your biggest enemy. Take one mod at the time... Why not leave the crystal off when you mod CG's... You will not damage the crystal when your file slips... I'd personally keep the crystal replacement for last. Second... indeed use the silicon grease when installing the crystal / inserting the ring. Tools is the key word when modding... I myself have messed things up not using right tools (e.g. overpushed stem releases and messing my old tube). Good tools are essential... Anyway it sounds like you have a beautiful piece now... -
New Rollie Gmt Model, Modified Eta 2836-2
kingkitesurf replied to RWG Technical's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
Rob, As promised here are the pics of my TWG Expl2 with 2836-2 GMT mod. -
Thanks guys... I know that one... But this is the 1665 based Comex... I am looking for a 1680 version... It is different... I read that the genuines have valves in the case made specifically to accomodate Comex divers. Or am I mistaking? I did quite some reading on the topic lately... but the info differs a lot...
-
What a beauty... Today arrived my gen tropic #39 superdome...wow what a beauty... as soon as my MBW arrives I will put it on and make pictures.... droooooooollll... can't stop looking.... My new gen #39 non-superdome is now for sale by the way... see the member parts sales section... http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=12653
-
Exactly I specifically want the 1680... I know WM has the 1665 on stock... I just want the cyclops model... with the valve...
-
Has anybody here seen a 1680 based Comex rep from MBW/WM? Does it exist or do you have to get the MBW 1680 and find a Comex dial to go along? Cheers
