  1. Just this old thing. Looks like DemonSlayer has also found the grail as well.
  2. The Ramblas - one of the coolest streets in Europe. Go to the giant fresh food market there. Great place to sit and eat tapas and people watch. In the Gothic area go to the Picasso museum. Very cool. If you have a car take a drive down the coast 50 ks and walk around Sitges. A really neat beach community. Used to hang at a place in the center of town called Ricky's. A classic bar. In the back of the place is an enclosed patio. They serve the best Mussels in the world. Barcelona is the new Paris.
  3. I just emailed Silix, concerning the strap purchase. Hoping for the best. Regardless of cost on this item, it will be much less than the OEM at 400.00. Let's cross our fingers on this one!!!
  4. Quality not quantity...I think someone once said. First few years seems like I bought one rep per month, and now I have 16 black dialed, ss sport watches that sit in a case, unworn. In the last 18 months I have purchased only 3 pieces, guess what, black dialed ss sport watches. EL's 3717 (wear it occassionally), MBW/MBK PPN (daily beater), and my most recent purchase, the BSOH (the most beautiful diver ever?). All the rest of the Pam's and rollis, and Omega's just sit around. The beauty of rep collecting is that for what used to be a few hundred bucks a piece you can eventually figure out what you really like. Prior to the purchase of the 3717 I had never sent a watch to The Zigmeister, however after the purchase of that watch, the PPN and the Heritage all went to Mr. Z for service and a bit of modding. That said, suddenly the hobby began to get a bit more expensive than just a few hundred bucks per. What I REALLY like is the PPN. It only took 4 years of buying reps for me to figure out that 16mm thick chronos weren't really working for my 6.75'' wrist. Eventually I will sell all the rest that sit collecting dust. Guys like By-Tor and Ubi have long been my inspiration.
  5. Summer time in the water. Gen Seiko Black Monster. Pretty.
  6. What's up with you guys? Swiss- Smissh I have a 2824-2 eta movement in my PPN. The Zigmeister affirms that it is a true eta. Since servicing I have a power reserve of up to SIXTY hours. I take it off 9:00pm Friday night, and on Monday morning it is still running. Doesn't miss a beat. Perhaps it is a TW eta, not SWISSMH, but who cares? Get over the Swiss/Asian thing. ETA is ETA - not 21J Asian thing. That being said, if I were to purchase a new CN watch and it could be serviced with 21J Asian, who is to say that it wouldn't work just as reliably? Servicing your favorites only makes sense. ETA or 21J Asian.
  7. About as nice as a collection as I have seen in a long time. The new TANGFOLIO. Great photos. Wear them well.
  8. My first watch forum too. Fortunately for all of us, Thomas made the right decision at the right time, and RWG will carry on. TRC will be sadly missed, but here we all are. Lots of fond memories for many of us there. But...these, are the good old days.
  9. Same ol' for me...nothing changes but the date...so to speak. The worlds most beautiful watch. Genta rules.
  10. George was the best. There are a bunch of 5 and 10 minute live clips of his acts on YouTube. Check them out.
  11. Said it before...I'll say it again...wear what makes you feel good.
  12. It seems that on this forum for the most part the Cartel dealers are the dealers of choice. On a number of the other popular forums there seems to be a few more choices, especially a couple of CONUS dealers that I have recently dealt with who are not drop shippers. Makes all the difference in the world. I am so sick of receiving watches with mis aligned dial indices and bezels, that buying from the Cartel has become an effort in futility. I agree too, that the game has changed in the last few years. The really good reps are definitely way more expensive than in the past, but for the most part they are of better quality than in the past. Speaking personally, they last three watches I have purchased were EXPENSIVE relatively speaking. EL's 3717, after Z's modding and ETA swap was a 750.00 watch. MBW/MBK PP Nautilus after ETA service is now a 650.00 watch, and the beautiful BSO Heritage, with eta servicing now a 450.00 watch. The days of the asian 21J for 150.00 seem to be over. For the most part my experience with the 20 (+) reps I have purchased in the last 5 years is that if you do not service them is that eventually they will just up and quit running one day. When the average price was 125.00 to 250.00 per watch, when they quit working I threw them in the old watch drawer. Those days are over. Finding a good dealer, establishing a relationship, and giving them most of your business only makes sense. I don't believe you can do that effectively with a 'drop shipper'. I agree too, with the notion that these forums are created for sharing good information. If Carl has found the golden goose (or Geese), please have him share the info with all of us. FWIW.
  13. Well we all know what the drill is on opinions. Everybody's got one...nobody needs yours. That being said, I have to agree on most of what you said. But, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I wear probably one of the most understated watches ever made. One that most people would NEVER notice...the PP Nautilus. Yet, the MBK is a rep of a 20,000.00 gen. At a party I was at last evening, I spotted at least a half a dozen Sport rolli models, SS and gold, and a mis-mash of everything else from Breitling to Omega. Most men my age can afford whatever watch they want. Taste is the determining factor on what these men wear. Clearly I am the only one one with any taste in the bunch. NO ONE has ever mentioned my Nautilus. To me, most people could care less which watch another person wears. Only WIS's like ourselves. Any of these guys could afford a Big Bang or a PP, but most could care less. Wear what makes you feel good.
  14. I am currently wearing my Heritage. 1st edition. The only difference I can see compared to the newer version, is that the Super Ocean copy does not line up with the 'A' like the newer version. Both editions are close to perfect, albiet, the newer model has the correct placement of 'Super Ocean'. This is the nicest Diver currently available IMO. With the addition of the rubber, or mesh straps, this watch is close to being the 'PERFECT' rep. The case size at 46mm, fits most wrist sizes very well, even the sub 7'' wrist size. It is an extremely comfortable watch to wear. Better fit IMO than any of the larger case sizes currently available, i.e., Panerai, BCE, etc. Buy it...you will like it.
  15. Blue works for a water watch. True. But a 'blue' rubber strap? I don't think so. Black - bezel/dial/rubber strap - is way more bitchin. IMO the Heritage is the most beautiful diver currently available in the rep world.
  16. Same Ol'. I could not ask for anything more.
  17. Funny how it is. I do not work or live in a corporate atmosphere. Far from it. But I love beautiful shoes about as much as watches. Problem is when can I ever wear them? I have shoes that are 30 (+) years old that for all intents and purposes are brand new. I got married 24 years ago and I still have the Cole-Hann - brown and white spectator slip ons that I wore at my wedding. I have worn them maybe three times since. Santoni slip on tassle loafers. Sooo beautiful. Donald Pliner boots. Drivers. Prada black leather lace ups. Ahhh. But best of the lot...25 year old Larry Mehan Black Lizard Cowboy boots. Dress only. I have worn them one million times, never had to resole them. Now that is a boot. Were talkin Quality...not quantity. A familiar concept?
  18. That Kevlar strap is the best I have seen on this watch. Beautiful Bazz. Thanks for the pic.
  19. Yes it is Deja Vu...all over again. All owners of MBK PPN's will agree... A perfect...imperfection. And oh by the way, MBK Black dialed (unconnected dots) RULE.
  20. Let's see... Saturday for this one, and oh yea...Sunday too.
  21. The watch that most does it for me...is the MBW/MBK PP Nautilus Jumbo. 42mm x 8.5mm 20 (+) black dialed S/S sport watches in my collection, and the MBK Nautilus is the ONLY one I can wear anymore. I must say that going thru this thread a few times now ... there a lot of very beautiful watches pictured here. We are a bunch of lucky people. Wear them well.
  22. Interesting thread. I traded for a new SOH back in Jan. I LOVE this watch. One of my all time favorites. One problem. From the get go the movement was suspect. Crown was 'wobbly', and 'ratchety'..., the watch would stop in the middle of the day.. .strange for an 'automatic'. Worked very marginally for 8 weeks, then eventually froze. I always liked the Heritage enough to send it out for service, but now I have no choice. It seems odd that a case and dial from a single factory would have so many different movement variations. I agree with the sentiment that says, 'Why buy an eta model of this watch for 250.00 and then pay to have it serviced, when you could pay half the cost for the Asian 21J, and then have IT serviced. After all, a well serviced 21J will probably last just as long as an eta. Right.??
  23. Here a couple shots of my MBK PPN IMO the MBK versions of this watch, new ones or old ones, are still the best rep made. The slight variations in the two MBK models that Manuel shows are minimal, both look like great pieces. The CN versions are NO WHERE near as nice as these MBK's. The ongoing discussion about which models are closest to gen is moot. None of the current available reps are correct when compared to the gen. Too many inaccuracies to even mention. These MBK's actually most closely resembles the 3700-1A, or the 3800-1A. The case size of this model was 38mm however, and the Jumbo 3700 and 3800 models (without seconds hand) were 42mm. I recently viewed an auction sale for a 3800-1A that was made in 1995, considered excellent condition...it sold for 14,000.00. It looked EXACTLY like the MBK, but it is only 38mm. It is the 3700 and 3800 Jumbos (no center seconds) that get the huge dough...from 50,000.00 and up. Nevertheless, IMO the rep MBK PPN is the best watch available in the rep world when it comes to overall QC in fabrication and finish. I recently handled a gen 5800-1A (36-38mm x 8mm). The retail price was 21,500.00 The 43mm 5711 (with center seconds) retails for 27,500.00 And the 5700 series of chronos starts at 35,00.00 The gen dial on this watch was UNREAL. A beautiful translucent Black/pearl/grey. It sparkled at changed facets in the light. Much more brillant than the rep dials. However, I must say that after handling and wearing the 5800-1A, it made me appreciate even more the quality of fabrication in the MBK PPN. The dial on my Nautilus is BLACK. I actually ordered a replacement for the dial that I received, because I wanted it to be more perfect than the one that came on the watch. The replacement is as good as I can imagine. I sent the watch off to Mr. Z, for the dial swap and full service of the eta movement, and I now own the most perfect... imperfect rep. If the MBK PPN is now available thru a number of dealers, then so much the better for those of us that love this watch. Buy it...you will love it too.
  24. In reps...look at the Omega Constellation for men. I believe it is only 10mm thick. Nice watch too. Like you I prefer thinner cases as well. My MBK Nautilus at 9mm is the perfect sports watch IMO. Like the Nautilus, the APRO Jumbo is a beautiful case and bracelet, and it too is advertised as 9mm. Genta rules.
