  1. Awesome, guys! I guess it's time to start one of these...
  2. I'm reporting you to the Canadian Commission of Spoilers! Farewell, Count Iggy.
  3. mrboombasteke: The parts I listed should be common to the 7733, 7734, and 7736. Where did you source your movement?
  4. Beautiful build! This is the first time I've seen the white-lumed Space-Dweller dial, and it's a beauty. I hope you can take a few closeup shots, so I can get a better look at the ivory shade of white you're talking about. J, you need to build one soon... but not just yet!
  5. I lost two registered packages in November and December last year--one was outgoing, the other incoming. I figured they were lost due to the corruption/incompetence of my local post office, but it's nice to know that things are going downhill everywhere. Wait, that isn't nice to know at all!
  6. Oh, who am I kidding... I already started at 11:30. DRINK SOME MORE!!!
  7. It's not yet noon over here, but I think I'll have a drink to that.
  8. Great stuff as usual, automatico.
  9. I think wheaton has the deadliest weapon here!
  10. Nice Mark II, co-ax! Wish I could join in the Speedy love with you and B, but I went with the Explorer for casual Friday:
  11. I credited deja and his detective skills earlier, since he'd sherlocked the difference in height. To summarize: For the 7733/7734/7736, Part 8000 is for a 30-minute counter and 8.2mm high. Part 8000/3 is for the 45-minute counter, and is 8.9mm high. There is no other difference. The gear has the same number of teeth, and I think it's only the heart-piece that interacts with the minute-recording runner. Like Z3k0, my 7032 was converted using two parts. The chronograph works, but I'm not totally confident in it. The reset to zero is a bit iffy, and it doesn't as feel as solid as it did when it had the 30-minute gears installed. Mind you, I did drop the watch back in October, so that's one confounding factor. I'm still waiting for my 8000/3 to arrive from the UK. I'll find out then if the longer runner solves my chrono problems.
  12. "Red, mate, you look like a nice fella, so I'll let you have the extra 0.45mm at no cost!"
  13. Love that black 'lume'! Geneve, we hardly knew ye!
  14. Despite the pounding-head-against-the-wall frustrations, DW's are some of my favorite reps. But let me be clear: It took about 4 months and a lot of advice from the old experts of RWG before I considered my 6263 reliable enough to be a daily wearer. The 6239 was the opposite--a straightforward build and trouble-free for the past 9 months. I should note that both Daytonas came as unbuilt kits. I bought my Tudor 7032 as a 'pre-assembled' watch head, and it arrived in an almost comical state, and it was a bit of a grind to get it to its present condition. You begin to understand the premium Spinmaster charges for his services. And maybe that $1500 Phong case isn't such a bad deal after all...
  15. Completely agree with everything above. DW's great in communicating and terrific about sending replacement parts, but has pretty poor QC. Even if you state, re-state, and confirm your order, odds are that something will go missing or you get a wrong part. This was true when bought my first Daytona in '09 (three tries to get a good dial), and it's true as of right now. Seriously. I'm in the middle of sending an email complaining about him sending the wrong bezel after not sending it the first time. Too many unforced errors! Yet I keep coming back for more punishment!
  16. Is it marked "Chronograph" or "Cosmograph"? I have a feeling all the panda 6238s were Cosmos, and that the dials originated with the 6239. Maybe when the Daytona was first released, Rolex felt it needed to spice up its staid, 50s-styled, 6238 Anti-Magnetic.
  17. I'm surprised by the huge amount of support the standard dials are getting! And here I thought the three color Newman would be winning this poll easily.
  18. That's it... I'm upgrading. Cover your ears, guys!
  19. See here, here, and here. And those are just the fresh threads! The definition has evolved in the past few years, but it still means a watch built out of parts from several sources. These days it commonly refers to a combination rep/gen watch. The ratio of rep to gen varies, and is the reason why usage of the term can be so contentious.
  20. I think it's a mixed bag. I ordered a couple of 7836s from Mary (Watch International), who seems to get them from the same supplier. The first bracelet fit a 2mm bar with no problem whatsoever. The second would not. However, I imagine it would be easier to open these up, compared to a 7206. For one thing, you wouldn't have to worry about deforming adjacent links. The Josh/Mary 7836s are nice, low-cost folded-links, but they are of a distinctly lower quality than the Yuk 7206. You might not feel the cheaper steel right away, but you'll definitely see the difference if you have to resize the bracelet and open up a couple of links. There are also several shortcuts that were taken in the construction. It wouldn't be so bad if these only meant poorer visuals (e.g. the boxy clasp and the crimped final mid-link). However, designs like the overly-simplified links next to the clasp result in the bracelet being stiffer -i.e. less comfortable- than the real thing. But for <$50, pretty good.
  21. Yuki confirmed that their 7836 will take a bar that's 1.8mm, tops. Nevertheless, I've still wanted to order one, but it's been unavailable since last year.
