  1. Congratulations! The split-level dash still freaks me out, but it's a great car. Definitely worth a shaved ice!
  2. Don't miss the Heritage Chrono review on VRF. Ooh... I really shouldn't be thinking about buying one!
  3. I'm partial to the "extra-wide" Geneve Dynamics from the 70s, but yours is the more timeless design. Very nice. I wonder, though, why some dials have the accent grave ("Gen
  4. Kamal Choraria is the proprietor of BJsOnline, which I believe is an adult website of some sort.
  5. But you miss out on the chance to meet Kamal in person! (He's a real sweetheart.)
  6. This is one of the few times when I'm happy about my puny 6.5" left wrist. As noted, the Yuki 7206 is an excellent bracelet (still the only riveted rep that's worth a damn) that is sadly let down by its skinny springbar loops. It IS possible to jam 2mm bars in there, but there are several downsides: Possible damage to the endlink/loops, possible damage to the springbars, and deformation of the endlinks. I think it was Nanuq who drew a beautiful sketch of how the bent endlinks are no longer in parallel with the rest of the bracelet. Pbdad suggested an alternative solution: Put a skinny springbar in the endlink loop then cap the ends using pivots ripped off of a fat 2mm springbar. Haven't tried it myself.
  7. No, there's no AR on the original. Dial printing is sharp, but not as bright as on the gen. Funny thing about the indices: You'll likely find several that are slightly crooked or not perfectly centered. What's funny about this is that the same is true on gens that I've seen and handled. A genuine dial will fit, but I've yet to see one for the titanium 3707 show up on eBay. Dials for the steel 3707 (with metal indices) appear every now and then.
  8. I'm very glad to see renewed interest in vintage Rolexes e.g. Puretime's Subs and Josh's recent 1655. I hope that continues in the near future, and that some niche reps -say, the Tudor Monte Carlo or the older Rolex GMTs- become more mainstream and affordable. (By "niche" I mean that they are presently difficult/expensive to put together, not that they would be of limited interest.) Speaking of niche, I was a bit disappointed that the Sinn rep line seems to have fizzled. The U's were great pieces, but it doesn't seem like there were sufficient sales to warrant replicating other models. I still want my cheap 656! I have no idea what the next big thing will be, but here's what they COULD be: Imagine if a "1:1, AAA, original-watch-dissected" rep of the TAG-Heuer (or just old Heuer) Monaco were released? Or a proper Speedmaster? I'd buy every one of its Special Edition offshoots! Yes, even the hideous Moon to Mars!
  9. I would have tried to get it (there was only one bidder--and he won), but it was a US-only auction. I agree that it would make a huge difference to a rep U1 or U2. The sharp edges of the pearl and the definition of the bezel markings are beautiful.
  10. I bought the titanium 3707 earlier this year. Case and bracelet are excellent replications. The dial is good, but is let down by lumeless hands -matched by virtually lumeless indices- and day/datewheels that need to be replaced ASAP. (Earlier versions of the GST had better rep wheels installed, but an upgrade to gen ETA will make a big difference.) No AR may be an issue for you, and the movement is as reliable as the next Asian 7750. It's a good-looking watch, if you like stark functionality. Very Speedmaster-like design, unlike its flashier Aquatimer descendents.
  11. Yikes, that's expensive! Just a month ago, a gen U1 bezel sold on eBay for $40. Has anyone confirmed if it will fit a rep?
  12. Sheesh, it's a few bucks cheaper than buying the Asian Explorer II! HOWEVER, it looks like a different bracelet from the one that comes with the new Josh 1655. Integrated endlinks, for one. Slightly improved coronet stamping, maybe? Unless someone compares the two 7836s side-by-side and finds a fatal flaw with the Josh version, it's going to be a hard sell at that price.
  13. Now, now... There's no need for profanity.
  14. According to someone on another rep forum (starts with an 'R'), there are two versions of the 39mm Explorer 1 floating around--the nicer one is supposedly by the same folks who make the better Milgauss. I also notice that someone has just posted a review of the new Explorer in that other rep forum (ends with an 'epgeek'). It looks good at first glance, but those short hands annoy me, as they do on the gen.
  15. Feedback of 2, a single crappy picture, and a claim that the watch is just a few years old yet "the number 4 is missing." LOOKS GOOD TO ME!!!
  16. "Vive le General Alcazar"? I'm sorry, but as an unreconstructed supporter of General Tapioca, I find that very offensive!
  17. Neither can I, but I know there are several people here who have some choice words about 'wholesaleoutlet990'!
  18. Where can I order these lead-lined bags? I need one for my plan to rid the world of Superman, once and for all!
  19. Omega Deermaster in Nara: LLD in Singapore, on the day that I bought it. Bonus points for the right answer: What am I eating? Extra bonus points for Singaporeans: Where am I eating? I don't regularly wear either on NATOs, but it gets pretty darn hot in Asia. The day before I took that deer pic, I permanently damaged my Hirsch calfskin strap with salty sweat.
  20. "I only wear this Daytona on special occasions." "So what's the occasion?" "Haven't you heard? It's Wednesday!"
