  1. RIP to a hugely influential designer. redwatch: I don't think GG designed that particular Polerouter, which has the basic Super Compressor case. Now this is more like it... Gorgeous!
  2. Well, I didn't make it that far. But that caseback... IT'S BEAUTIFUL!!!
  3. Today I used the chrono function for the first time in several months. It took a few tries to get it started, and it was a bit touch-and-go trying to get the sweep hand once around the dial. But it made it after working the upper pusher a few times. Now it's been going for seven hours, so let's see if it makes it to twelve... Love the Big Red on Jubilee!
  4. I agree with your order. A gen is best, but any aftermarket Tropic 21 will be a big improvement over DW's crappy crystal. Try a Sternkreuz if you want an old-style dome, or J&K for the later, beveled T21. A genuine 6mm crown will look and feel better than DW's, and shouldn't be too expensive. If you can't afford 571 endlinks, look for 357s (integrated), 257s (removable), or the 361s that are commonly found on 7835s from Hong Kong.
  5. I started wearing a cheapo Jubilee rep on one of my old 1016 builds, and I think it's great. Very comfortable, and the polished center links go great with the Explorer's shiny bezel. Oyster is still my #1 choice, but a Jub is a refreshing alternative.
  6. Thanks, unix! Just how big is that Oris of yours, anyway? It looks massive!
  7. Great photos, great watches. Congratulations red!
  8. Seamasters pull even with Subs!
  9. In RWG-Rolex? I'm a noob compared to a lot of the guys! Case in point: I really don't know where your 6263 came from. The bezel insert and overall shape suggest it's not a DW, while the skinny hands in the subdials mean it's not from the cartel. Of course, there've been vintage Daytona reps sold by more than just DW and the cartel, but I'm stumped. Are the pushers spaced at different distances from the crown?
  10. It's probably best that I wait until I see a picture. Regardless, you could buy screw-down pushers from Ofrei ("Daytona white screw down push button"), CousinsUK, or Clark Watch Parts. I don't have any first-hand experience with any of these, but both Ofrei and Cousins units have been highly recommended here. I don't know anyone who has tried Clark's, but they look good in the pictures. Whichever Daytona you have, the best-case scenario is that the pushers will thread in with no problem. At worst, you'll need to drill out the pusher threads and glue the new pushers in place. This is very likely on a DW case, which has threads that are the correct diameter but have the wrong pitch.
  11. Could you let us know if your Daytona is from DW, the cartel, or someone else? Suitable aftermarket screw-down pushers are not hard to find, but they can be difficult to fit depending on which case you have.
  12. Unfortunately, I only started watching F1 regularly in '91, and I never did get the '85 season review from Duke Video! I'd better start searching, since I'm missing out on many great races. red: The B194 was funny, in that you had to enter a secret code (via the pedals and paddles, I think) to access the 'dormant' traction control. Just like Contra on the Nintendo! Schumacher's car control was (past tense--sigh) top-notch, but the stench of cheating and poor sportsmanship followed his entire career. Likewise, Ayrton was no saint, despite how he was often portrayed after death. I'm really interested to see how the documentary handles this. I'd heard that Prost comes off badly in the narrative.
  13. Well... Schumacher in his prime was a master on the wets. See: Spa & Nurburgring '95, Barcelona '96, Monaco '97, &c. &c. That said, Senna's first lap of Donington in '93 is hard to top.
  14. Wish it were showing in my neck of the woods... I will watch anything remotely motorsport-related (even Driven, *ptooie!*), but I would pay just to see one of Ayrton's Monaco qualifying laps on the big screen.
  15. Definitely the dial! When that Aquaracer was first released, I actually found it a bit chunky and angular. Looking back, I'd say it's one of TAG's best designs. Of course, it doesn't hurt that I'm a sucker for anything with a blue sunburst. unix/vlydog: Thanks! (B: I went on a long, fruitless search for that emoticon of yours. )
  16. red: I love that shade of blue! Monochromatic Sunday here:
  17. I've had a Tudor 7032 land crown-first onto the sidewalk, after a not-so-secure springbar popped out. The force took off a subdial hand, and dinged the case good. And yesterday, the clasp on my genuine Rolex 7205 bracelet snapped around a joint. It's 50 years old, but still... If your Graham made it without a scratch, then well done, Wrist Hulk!
  18. Is it the 12th already? I really wouldn't know. For I have... NO-DATE:
  19. As much as he needs both versions of the Heritage! Wonderful collection, Ray!
  20. Mm... Daytona. MM... GULLWING! Makes the new one look a little bit graceless and chunky, doesn't it? Something from the east:
  21. Cubeistan/Red: Thanks! The Longines 'Greenlander' is a Narikaa cheapie that I got from whoever. The quality is much nicer than I expected. Even the sec@6 movement is nicely finished. It just remains to be seen whether the watch gets some mods in the near future.
  22. I really need to stay out of the Panerai area...
