  1. Same here. Ten years after the attacks, and words still fail me. I will never forget.
  2. I recently bought an OEM Assolutamente strap and as a result, this watch has seen more wrist time in the past week than it did in my first four months of ownership. I absolutely (ugh) love this strap, and that's not just the money talking. It cost me more than any strap I've ever owned, but I fell in love with these strips of leather the first time I saw a press shot of a PAM 386. (I missed seeing it on last year's Radiomir 339.) It looks even better in the flesh (dead calf flesh) than it does in the pictures, and it smells mighty tasty, too! Mapman57 suggested I make a shoot out of it, and he's absolutely (no, stop) ASSOLUTAMENTE right! Gentlemen, behold:
  3. Sub-turday. Wait, no... that sounds awful.
  4. NOW we know... the REST of the story! I'm Paul Harvey.
  5. Wow... Nice! When I started reading your post, I didn't expect to scroll down and see a wrist-shot halfway down the page! Congratulations, and glad I could help even a little. If you rush a DJ franken, you could easily end up paying more than you would for a vintage gen. (Granted, there's the whole satisfaction of putting it together yourself, &c. &c. but I'm not a big fan of builds that approach, say, 40% of genuine costs.) Awesome job and a classy DJ in the end. dublinlad: My DJ is powered by the Sea-Gull 2824 equivalent, and it needed a kink in the minute hand, too. Not noticeable unless you view the dial very closely at extreme angles.
  6. I'm surrounded by huge watches:
  7. I have been looking for a set of Tudor Mercedes hands for a long time. They very rarely show up on VRM or eBay, and usually go for ~USD300. USD250 is actually a good price for them. That's a little nutty!
  8. Fantastic, J! PCG = Pointed Crown Guards
  9. J: Sweet rose! What a coinky-dink, woof*:
  10. I've figured it out. Apparently, Federer's just switched sponsors:
  11. Thanks, R! The Marinemaster looks good on your wrist, modelizer!
  12. Looking good on metal, woof*! Heuer for Tuesday:
  13. I've been looking at this like the Zapruder film, and I think I've changed my mind. I think the position of the subdials gives the game away: Possible Newman reissue? I'm guessing something like that would sell for at least as much as a standard 6263!
  14. Andrew Shear is proprietor of ShearTime, and a very reliable source of genuine Rolex parts. I don't think he has anything to do with the "Shear Time"-branded Daytona dials that DW sells. Congrats, F, and great work, RA!
  15. Looks like a 6263 'Belmondo' to me, too. It just goes to show how hard it can be to judge a 4mm difference from a distance.
  16. Thanks, guys! red: The color of the insert was a real surprise to me. When I first got the watch, I thought it was more of a charcoal look. But there are certain lights (including sunlight) that really bring out the blue hue. It's terrific, and I'm really glad I didn't pay the $200-300 for a gen insert!
  17. El Peruano was gone for a while (thanks to a broken clasp), but now it's back:
  18. I get the feeling that the cartel tried to make a 1675 on the cheap, using as many off-the-shelf parts as possible. Other than the Jubilee bracelet (which is an odd mix of D-links and a vintage-style clasp), there is little gained by using this rep, instead of a cartel 1655, as a base for a proper GMT. Dial and hands, maybe, but are they good enough to keep?
  19. All of you know how much I love a good rep/gen comparison! I recently stopped by my watchsmith's and stepped into an impromptu get-together for some local collectors. Great turnout of vintage Subs, with more than a few No-Dates in attendance. I wasn't prepared to do the usual angle-for-angle shoot (hence, no separate thread), but I didn't want to miss the opportunity to take a few pictures. So here they are. Apologies for the harsh overhead lights, but I couldn't find any white umbrellas lying around.
  20. 026K for most of the day: Then this arrived from R_Squared: I really should have checked the GMT hand before taking the shot!
  21. Nice Tudors, J and R! Carrera for Saturday:
  22. asf, xwood: Thanks! J: Love the linen with engine-turned combo!
  23. Well... dammit! Earlier this week, I lent my 589 and my 605 to 'Mr. 6263' aka the guy who owns the genuine Tudor 7149. If they're a good fit on his watch, I'll see if I can swap them for the 282s he's currently got, and see if they're a better fit on my DW. EDIT: But how is it that ubi and Marsupilami had no trouble on theirs? Is it possible that Phong switched case suppliers?
