  1. Aah... 'Twas nuthin'! But that 7031 of yours is really something! It's got me excited for Mk 2 of my own Homeplate. What a shame that the rest of us are going to have to wait a long time for a good plastic bezel.
  2. omgiv: Just eyeballing it, but I'm pretty sure it's spaced for a V23 or V72. I think someone just screwed up with the feet placement during the production of the dial.
  3. B: Don't forget the lume shot! It looks terrific already. The contrast between the white-lumed hands and markers, and the black plastic bezel is beautiful.
  4. Gray NATO is one of my favorite flavors of Speedy! Still waiting for a proper shoot of your 7031, though.
  5. Have they changed the name, or are they still going with KUBANG! KUBANG!!! OH BABY!!!
  6. Busting the Rolex monopoly on Saturday's W/C:
  7. Phew... For a second there, I thought I'd mixed up my rep forum bookmarks with those for my scat sites!
  8. Sheesh... How many guys have fumbled that 372 and dropped it? And they still left the sticker on after it's been 'vintagized' like that? Still a beautiful watch, regardless, and a much more balanced design than the 127. Congratulations to everyone in line for one.
  9. Great watches for Friday. 2 MCs and 1... Explorer! (Can I get a DJ?) Daytona on Big Bird:
  10. Who hates the 7032? I want names!!!
  11. Wow, great pair of watches to start the thread. Love the texture on that Sub and that flame-broiled strap! Speedmaster on donerix croc:
  12. P: I like the 1950s style of the 6234s and early 6238s, too. The major inaccuracies of these reps are the symmetrical pushers, the wrong dimensions for the crystal and bezel, and the wrong hands (hour/minute should be Dauphines, subdial hands should be thinner). I really love the old tachy/telemeter dials, though!
  13. Thanks for that. I misread your post, and thought that Mary was able to find the dial by itself, but I guess that would be too good to be true! Still worth considering for the future, if I decide I've got to have a 6238. The dial looks good to me. I would swap the subdial hands with DW's, as the cartel hands are a bit on the chubby side. If possible, I would also change the running seconds hand with a needle type, but I don't know if these are available for the 7750. It's worth a look. Finally, I would have jmb lathe a new bezel, as I'm not entirely convinced by the dimensions of DW's. But maybe we should see the final product before taking that step! That said, the watch looks great as-is. It just needs a bit of a shave.
  14. Sheesh... Why didn't I think of this? I've still got a silver-dialed 6239/7750 that was rendered redundant by my V72 build. Matt, any chance of getting a picture of that dial? I'd like to be sure that it's the same silver sunburst as on the old cartel reps (and the gen), and not the white dial that Josh insists is on his new Sea-Gull Daytonas.
  15. Pug: In the sub-$1000 range, your only real choice is between the 7750-powered DWs and the Sea-Gull Daytonas from the cartel. Valjoux 23s have become too expensive to warrant a "pre-Valjoux 72" compromise build, while Mystery Movements have gone extinct, by most accounts. A while back, I summarized the cartel's latest offerings: Positives: -More reliable Sea-Gull movement. (Although both of my 7750s are running well.) -Correct spacing of the subdials at 3 and 9. The sub@6, too, if you follow ChiMan's mods. -Comes with a nice crystal. (DW's default crystal is the wrong size, brittle, and optically deficient.) -Great endlinks--probably the best rep 571s I've seen. The downsides: -Subdial at 6 is non-functional and too low. -Quality of cartel dials is generally poorer than DW's. Non-exotic dials look good, until you realize that its hour has 72 minutes! -Bezels are inferior to DW's: Less accurate dimensions overall; less accurate and lower-quality engravings and insert text. -If you're getting a 6239, the indents are too wide for pump pushers. (Cartel uses the same case for pump and screw-down pushers.) Finally, I think the DW cases are more accurate, overall, than the cartel's. The DW just looks more convincing at a glance to me.
  16. As alligoat said, the correct Daytona endlinks for a 7205 are 71s, but I wouldn't bother looking for them. They're incredibly rare and ridiculously expensive if you do find them. Expect to pay about $1000 for ONE endlink, and sky's-the-limit for a complete bracelet with 71s attached. From what I can remember, a 57 will fit fine with not too bad a gap. The problem with 57s is the thinness of the link relative to the lugs. You'll be seeing a lot of the mid-case engravings. What I did on my 7205 was to find a pair of 357 endlinks and mount them onto the 7205. If you don't mind the mismatched numbers, it looks great. Good luck on the 6238. I've dreamt of building a 'Lazenby' for some time, but I've yet to find a really good dial. Don't forget the red sweep hand!
  17. Beautiful pair of Subs, R. J will be working on one of my Tudors soon, and I would be surprised if it doesn't knock my socks off!
  18. Aw, man... Wish I were there! Have a great time, R!
  19. Thanks, B. Needs more ass! J: It still surprises me to see a Daytona on your wrist, but it looks good!
  20. Mm... That 3-6-9 is looking very good, E. Switched the SM300 to a folded-link today:
  21. Thanks, guys! I figured it was best to take some photos while it was still new. The surface of the leather seems designed for dramatic aging, so this strap could look very different in a few months! divisible: Not a GI Joe fan, eh? The man in the metal mask is Destro, Cobra Commander's right-hand man, and pictogram of the right-hand PAM.
  22. Fantastic! I'd been dreaming about a proper 6240 build for a while, and the pushers were always the sticking point. Not sure what can be done about the line, though...
