Interested in this as well . As you can see, the minutes hand on mine goes almost to the rehaut, instead of just touching the minute track:

The dial feet are for a 1030 btw.

Thanks for the tips alligoat! You just reminded me, this is what I was going for originally... I need the face palm emoticon:

Thanks for the clarification on the 5510. Yup it's from Tonney Searching for for other member's 5508 projects here, I realize dial diameter has been an issue on some builds. I plan to eventually get a case from Tonny as well, and hope I won't have to shave down the edges.

I've always been amazed by the vintage builds here, especially the big crown projects, so I picked up a 6536 dial from our Bay seller of the moment. The 6536 dial was advertised with a diameter of 27.8mm. I don't have a digital caliper so I hope it's about right: After doing more research post-facto (thank you VRF/Rolexforums), I realize with this dial, I won't get a to do a big crown project after all: 5510 – 26,96mm circa cal.1030 deep 200/660 6536 – 26,98mm circa cal. 1030 deep 100/330 6538 – 27,00mm circa cal 1030 deep 200/660 6536/1 – 27,68mm circa cal 1030 deep 100/330 5508 – 27,69mm circa cal 1530 deep 100/330 So I guess my options are 6536/1 or 5508. Now a question for our experts - Are there other builds possible with this dial?

Thanks for your expert opinion on that eBay seller. I've been eye-ing his dials for awhile. Great to hear the experts think they are not so bad. +1 on showing the profile of the case please.

So this is what unobtainium looks like.

I bought 2 of the Dept B versions that came after to To Ki To. A blue one for my son and a hunter green one for me. Love em!

Finally a good PVD option... My 203/A is "done"

Legendary build Grim! Legendary. Really love the profile shots of the case. Those shoulders and lugs look amazing. -
There's never been a better time for PreV and PreA projects, thanks to the collaboration between Rolli (Rolf) and FGD. I put aside some bench time this weekend to update two of my favorite builds: the Sly Tech 205/a and the 281a Black Seal The previous generation FGD dial (circa 2009?). I tried to capture the sheen. The earliest FGD dials were shiny, hence the need for a coat of flat varnish. I never varnished this, since it looked ok when cased. Close-up of the new Rolli/FGD dial. Note the even flat sheen: A hand press. Life is so much easier since I got one of these. No more popsicle sticks. The new dial cased next to the previous generation dial: The 218a was cased in an OP 6500 with fat CG and double-screw lug bars. I used a Kuvarsit V2 case (circa 2012 ) with DSN's previous generation (super fat) PreV CG and crown. Note the lug screws on the left side of the case... An early morning, house is all quiet, bench wristie: And finally the daytime wrist shots which capture the true color of the indices: Black Seal 218a Sly Tech 205/a Thanks again to Rolf and FGD for the amazing dials. Thanks for looking!

Awesome topic title Even better shaping skillz!

One of the best wrist shots I've ever seen. Thanks for sharing.

Rolli - This is a great start to 2016 thanks to your offerings and partnership with FGD. You two are definitely keeping the PreV and PreA passion alive! I can say it has definitely given me a lot of joy. Thank you very much!

TUTORIAL: How to tap your own Rolex 6538/5510 Case (Or any other case!)

Very useful! Always wanted to know what folks used to install Athaya's crowns. Thanks for sharing! -
That's a beautiful build. Great to hear all the legends of the forum pitched in to make this happen.
-
That is very special. Congratulations!

Thanks for the advice guys. Really appreciate it. Money saved.
-
Thanks for the advice. That 6538 is dead to me now. How about the 5508 case?
-
I just want a case set. They're offering full builds but the dials don't compare to the dark lord's work. To be honest the prices I was quoted weren't that much better than what you would get buying online. I thought they would give me a sweet deal for a face to face transaction. I'm still thinking it over.

So I visited MQ's shop today. It's right in the main high street shopping area, near the 5 star hotels in Saigon. He was out playing golf but his assistants were kind enough to help. First the 6538 case: What I really wanted though, was the 5508 in his showcase: he had a 5508 case available: what do the experts think? 6538 or 5508 I'm here another day and debating whether to pick one up thanks for looking

Thanks guys. MQ's it is then.

I have a trip coming up to Saigon. Has anyone tried visiting Phong's or Minh Quy's shops in Saigon, assuming they have one? Post or PM me please. Thanks

Beautiful. Specs please, especially for the MMLP. Thanks!
