  1. First as I said previously even Scalia states that assault weapons are NOT included in these 2nd amendment rights. So explain to me how regulations on these dangerous and quite frankly unnecessary weapons has anything to do with "taking away rights"? You assume pre-exiting free for all approach to what is considered "an individual right to possess and carry firearms". Try buy a surface-to-air missile, a rocket launcher or a tank to see how today you don't have unlimited rights to own any kind of weapon you want. Second, as with anything related to the US Bill of Rights there are rules and regulations for you to EXERCISE your right (free speech has limits, you have rules to petition the government, you have to register, be a citizen and resident of a certain area to be eligible to vote, etc.). Any time a discussion of regulations comes up someone loud tries to distort the conversation with a false claim of "taking away my rights". As for using volatile and oppressive regimes as an argument for why the US population needs assault weapons, that's the kind of reductio ad absurdum that makes it impossible for reasonable people to even consider the positions of fervent NRA folks. When in the history of these United States of America has the ELECTED government even come close to the regimes of those dictators to grant arming the general population with military grade weapons? It's like saying everyone should buy a space suit since in theory we could all go to the moon.
  2. Discussions about guns in this country will always be based on emotional reactions and not real facts. If emotions were left out it would be a simple case of political common sense. If someone bothered to look at actual facts the fierce, illogical and profit driven NRA positions wouldn't hold any water. However every time real life examples like the success of the Australian assault weapons ban comes up someone loud has to counter with some bogus anecdotal evidence (e.g. somebody somewhere that did not have a gun handy got shot therefore everyone needs a gun) or pure and simple lies as in the case of that video, to cling to their point. When even when someone like Scalia says assault weapons are not protected by the 2nd amendment and there are some radicals out there that believe they have an argument, it just shows discuss is pointless.
  3. agreed. I saw it earlier but I stopped looking at it after I noticed that huge crystal is mineral and not sapphire. I just imagine what kind of distortion a 14.3mm thick rep crystal would have. Besides that's an experimental watch so it doesn't matter how accurate they make it, everyone would know it's a rep.
  4. the 233 rep is not that close to the gen to begin with. Apart from the movement (open caseback), the DW is completely incorrect, crystal distortion off and the depth of the sandwich dial is too thin. The lume color is the last thing I'd be worried here.
  5. I can only see two options: 1) See if your dealer can get a V6 crystal replacement. Though but who knows (ideal) 2) I have my crystal without AR that you could be someone like Wiz to do the AR for you. The crystal may be a little taller for the v6 but it should be ok with the AR.
  6. very nice reading. Some folks tell me that mine resembles a grenade. In a sense it's related.
  7. I just got mine. This watch is awesome (heavy as hell so I understand the direction Hublot went with the Ti case).
  8. This guy's mother had registered: semi-automatic .223 Bushmaster assault rifle, two pistols (Glock and a Sig Sauer) and two other weapons. Explain to me a world where that's a NEED for a teacher leaving in CT??? And apparently she either ignored or had no idea on how to keep those guns safely away from a 20 yo kid (btw it's illegal for that kid to carry an assault rifle in CT so his mother should know better than to leave that thing unlocked). I wonder how many mandatory certification/recertification courses she went thru to get all that unnecessary fire power. oh yeah, right, requiring that for her to buy those things would interfere with her 'rights'. I think the right discussion in this country is not to repeal an amendment or ignore a gun discussion because it's politically charged. I think it's time to discuss what are the responsibilities and accountabilities required for someone to own a gun. It will never be 'get rid of guns' or 'let me buy any gun I want without supervision'. We need a serious and CONSISTENT set of rules here. If you want to drive a car you need a certification that not only you're qualified but that you also understand the laws and regulations. If you violate those rules you can lose your license, go to jail or both. However when it comes to guns not even a discussion about that is allowed here. Absolutely twisted.
  9. I've always had luck to find knowledgeable sales people at Tourneau. I'd not go to Jared for watches though. Kind of taking about high performance cars with a random Walmart associate just because they sell tires.
  10. it's not the gun permits or the laws that will change anything. Unfortunately is this mentality that guns are cool and everyone needs them. There's a cultural problem here that will take generations to fix and a serious discussion has to occur. I don't think it's ok for a disturbed person to have access to two handguns and decide to shoot kids. I bet this is not the first time he touched a gun. The culture of people thinking tactical training, doomsday survivor preparation, blaming other people for their own failures is feeding all those stupid shootings. Most of us don't need guns in our day to day lives (apart from people like Nanuq that need to fight off bears) but that's a subject that just like religion causes all kind of emotional reactions (e.g. let's throw away the Constitution comment) instead of rational ones. We need a serious grown up dialog about gun violence, not ideology discussions.
  11. The AP modification with the jewel has nothing to do with the issues we find with the Portuguese or the Daytona. The tri-compax sec@6 on the Daytona is a much harder modifications for the 7750 than sec@12. I have no idea why they can't just fix the Portuguese though. With the new AP movements I haven't seen any issues at all.
  12. I was doing some dynamic reading and all I could get from Nanuq's post was: The offer: send a large bomb to my house. I may have missed a few words here and there but I think that's the gist of it.
  13. This is by far the largest and fastest object I've ever seen wondering around the solar system. Maybe that's a death star running on impulse speed. It covered the distance between Jupiter and Earth in a couple of days. If they want to create a hoax at least try to be realistic
  14. The new noob IWC offer has a very interesting eater egg for those that have the old Ingy and could never get a Lello DW. Take a look at these pics. Since the model is based on the 2836 it could be a very good fit. I wonder if we can get a dealer to source the DWs.
  15. wow, thanks for posting and congrats on a very nice watch. I have always been curious about the flaws on those RMs.
  16. All of the sec@12 will have one very noticeable flaw: thickness. Apart from the DW that's in the wrong spot , the DW on the gen being sunken (since the chrono module sits on top of the movement where the DW is) and of course the wrong position of the crown, anyone that looks at the watch on your wrist and knows the gen profile will notice how significantly thicker the rep is. If you are looking for a good looking AP with barely any flaws at all, stay with the diver. If your heart is set on the Offshore models there are many ultimate models that look fairly good: Black Themes, Chronopassion, Survivor, Rubberclad (with the new type of bezel). Make sure to ask for the new movement with the jewel on the seconds wheel.
  17. yep. Gone but I'm sure the admin team would be fixing it soon.
  18. can you share the specs on the PAM186 Arktos? How did you get that flushed CP? Excellent pics btw
