  1. Indeed! Kudos to the kind gent lending a hand!
  2. Great looking watch! And great review! Thakns for sharing your thoughts on your new acquisition
  3. Yeah... I suppose that is true. Especially if it had the rare MK2 stamping on the end...
  4. Hikester- Is that thing 48mm?!
  5. Dunno about value, but as your first watch purchase, maybe you should just hang onto it for sentimental reasons
  6. That's gorgeous, DL! For Thurs... Trusty ol' 16520:
  7. That is a good question; 15 kilograms = 529 ounces; current spot price of gold is $1217.00/oz, which works out to be $644k US. Seems like a bit of an inflated figure, even if there is something special about the gold. It should be noted that Rolex does smelt their own gold and their Everose gold contains some platinum. Still... I don't see how 15 kilos of gold can equate to 15M euro, even with some Pt content...
  8. Personally, I see gold as being a good diversification to my other investments; helps balance things out a bit for me. Plus, when has gold ever been worthless?
  9. I think I understand your situation, and can empathize For gens, the decision on which to buy and why is one that requires a little more thought process, and overall consideration as the purchase is usually a bit more significant than buying a rep (in terms of price, etc). So I think as a whole, the gen would have more of a chance of staying in one's collection long term, as you'd have given those watches more thought prior to buying. With reps, the buy-in is so much less that it's easy to just pick and choose and purchase; these are the watches that you might not have given any thought to in terms of gen but with the lower cost of reps it's easier to purchase and turn around if it ends up being a watch you didn't connect with. The reps are a great way to test drive different watches that can ultimately lead to buying the gen. Reps can also make for fun projects as well, with a couple of options from that standpoint (either modding/building to the point of making a rep as close to gen as possible, or doing crazy, custom modifications to make the watch look completely different; something that one wouldn't dare consider with a pricey gen). All in all, reps are just a lot of fun...
  10. Great question, BT! I can't speak from a general perspective, but I can say that for my personal tastes 40mm +/- 4mm is what wears comfortably for me and is what looks most balanced on my wrist (maybe more important is the height of the case, and how the lugs are shaped). So, despite what the trends are 10 or 20 years from now, I'll likely just stick to what works for me
  11. The bracelet being sold a la carte is anyone's guess. People do weird shit.
  12. The thick font, BTW, looks to be an artifact of this person's images. Even in this different angle, the fonts have a different appearance (note the 'A' in PERPETUAL and the base of the coronet...
  13. I still feel this dial is fine. Redialers do not typically get these kinds of details correct when repainting: Typically, the edges get rubbed when installing/casing the movements. Since the movement and dial has to be rotated to get the movement screws fitted, this is a common occurrence.
  14. You're better off just going with no hologram, as most gen owners who wear their watches just remove them anyways. Unless you're trying to pass this watch off as something it's really not?
  15. On a 2836, all you need to do is press in this little spring: Line up the datewheel teeth/ratchet with the small notch on the same plate and lift the datewheel up and slide it off towards the stem side.
  16. Toni- Are you still at the same email addy as you used to be?
  17. Vintage Tudor Chrono for Weds...
  18. sander did a similar swap, and based on his post and breakdown of procedure, it does not look like an easy exchange. Link to topic
  19. Great trio indeed! You've done some great work to these, Andy! Difficult choice to make regarding which to part ways with... I guess if I had to choose, the DRSD would get my vote...
  20. Looks fantastic! Some great mods on this one... The new crystal really makes a difference!
  21. Modern = ETA 2836, 2824 or 2892 at 28800bph just as jmb stated (the gen 3035 and 3135 beat at the same 28800bph rate). Vintage = ETA 2846 or 2783/2784 at 21600bph, as those beat fairly close to the 19800bph of the Rolex 15xx movements.
  22. I don't believe this to be a refinished dial... Auction watch: MK1 dial:
  23. In this case, please take note of the 'O' and 'L' in ROLEX, the shape of the coronet and how long/pinty the spikes are, shape and size of the indicies and overall text layout... Looks exactly like a MK1 1675 dial to me
