  1. Thanks, TeeJay I agree- You can definitely see some family resemblance between these two! Great watches everyone! Keep em coming!
  2. I agree, although not in the same context as you. I hold my franken built pieces in even higher regard than any of my gens. Anyone can go to an AD and buy a watch; to actually sit down, research and collect the gen parts needed, then put it all together myself and see it come to life and be able to wear my work knowing the time and effort put into the project... To me, that makes for a stronger sentimental connection than just throwing down cash at a dealer's cash register. Yet another reason why I don't buy many gens these days...
  3. I think you nailed it right on the head! While quantity is impressive, I've always held the opinion that quality trumps volume Although in Lani's case, he's got quality and quantity... Not a bad combo to have at all
  4. Amazing collection, Lani! Thanks to you, I now know which piece I need to buy next Looking forward to parts 4 - 10!
  5. I'm fairly certain that the individual you are speaking of is quite busy! Between work, home and forum life that can be expected Give it another try... Or maybe try asking your inquiry in one of his threads? Best of luck, and welcome to the forum...
  6. Stick with chief! His AR is second to none. Invisible, and durable as well, which is a must if doing a double AR coat. You'll want the external surface as resilient as possible...
  7. Stupidity is right. Not even a good attempt... That watch is a POS...
  8. Good stuff, vly! Of course, you know we'll need pics!
  9. Whoa! Now THAT is how how you do it right! Well done, sir...
  10. All the pics are great! Very artistic shots with the tones and vignetting. Well done...
  11. I've seen gen hands pop up from time to time (not often); they're usually quite pricey! You can probably get some hands from DSN, however...
  12. Most certainly she is a keeper! Congrats on a beautiful timepiece, P! Cheers! R
  13. Don't get me wrong, fellas... I love my frankens a lot. My Daytonas hold a special place in my heart, and the Tudor is equally as special because of the significance it holds with it's twin that resides in Honolulu The PO is a great watch as well; a lot of fun and looks/wears great. However... I wouldn't buy gens of these watches, but not because they're not worthy; rather, I wouldn't buy their gen counterparts because I more or less have experienced the gen feeling anyways With as much gen content as my projects have had poured into them, I've sort of satisfied the desire for those pieces. But that 3717 has always remained elusive... Perhaps my mind will change on that in a few weeks...
  14. Hey gang, Thought this would be kind of fun to see. I'm curious to know... How many of you ended up buying a rep watch, only to fall in love with it so much that you ended up buying the gen? My list of purchased gens as a result of the rep is short... So short in fact that there are 0 watches on it I've built a number of frankens of the gen pieces that I wanted; upon completion and wearing, I discovered that I probably wouldn't have enjoyed the gen nearly as much as I thought I would. So, money saved in that regard I suppose The only exception for me is that I would absolutely consider buying a gen IWC 3717-01; though now that I have some key components on their way soon, maybe that one will be taken off the list as well. For example... I'm fairly certain that I probably wouldn't buy a gen 16520 now: I probably wouldn't buy a gen 9411: I know for certain I wouldn't buy a gen Planet Ocean: But one of these? Maybe yes... I believe that reps are oft times the pathway to buying gens. How many of you are going to support my theory?
  15. Perhaps some closer, more detailed pics (front/back) if you have them...
  16. Please tell me more about the Jaquet Droz...
  17. This is a bit tricky on any 7750 as you'd still need to set the date. The big problem here is that it is not advised to adjust the date between the hours of 7pm and 2am as the slow change date gear mech may be engaged with the hour wheel; date setting within these hours will cause damage to the movement. So, you'd need to remember when you took your watch off (am/pm); if you hacked the movement during PM hours close to when the date mech would be engaged, you'd need to adjust the time anyways to get you to a safe point for adjusting the date... Unless you waited until the same date/time next month to wear the watch again
  18. 2nd that, big guy! There's just something about a nice plexi that adds special and unique character to a watch...
  19. Maybe you can be a little more specific to your particular situation. Are you using a macro setting on your camera? What are the camera specs or model? Are you using natural or artifical light? Do you have a light box set up, or similar? Are you using a tripod or hand holding? Do you have a current example of a pic you've taken to give us an idea of what aspect you'd like to improve? Perhaps some helpful advice can be provided on that basis alone...
