  1. Ahhh... For doing the insert, I'd recommend using your thumbs I typically follow the Jocke method of snapping the bezel onto the watch and pressing the insert in with my thumbs 3/4 of the way (you'll want to snap the bezel on to line the triangle up with 12:00). That last 1/4 of the way will be difficult to press in with thumbs, so what I do is place a cloth on the table and press the insert in by applying pressure using the table as leverage. Snaps right in; granted this is with a gen bezel as well. If you're installing a retaining ring, then using a press is a must!
  2. Yeah, I'm regretting that I posted this. My intent wasn't to screw anyone out of this stuff; rather, I wanted to bring it to the forum's attention as I know some of you guys out there were looking for this item. I never had any idea this would reach the price in which the auction ended, nor the feeding frenzy that had ensued. So, if anyone lost this item due to my posting, my most humble apologies. I won't do it again Trial and error here... Lots of it.
  3. Hmmmm... To compare, here is the 18KWG fluted bezel from my old project: Your bezel looks as though it might be from an older 1601? Difficult to say, as I'm not even sure a bezel from that ref would fit...
  4. Here is an excerpt from a Rolex crown braintrust write up: "When they came out with sapphire crystals, they went to 6.0mm od crowns that used the same 5.3 case tube as 5.3mm crowns."
  5. I recall that my 16234 came with a 5.3mm tube; this was meant for a 600/6mm crown specific to fit the smaller tube. I suspect this could be these situation here as well. As for the crystal; do you know what height gasket you are working with?
  6. Arch- Did I miss you last week? And wow! That's a pretty big price jump since posting...
  7. Bezel, insert and washer for sale over on the famous auction site: Item 140262289907 2 hours remaining as of this posting (and no, it's not my auction, but I do know that some of you are looking for these parts).
  8. Great looking YM! Nice CG's on that one...
  9. Great review, once again BT!! Thanks for taking the time to put this together This is a great looking watch, but I am also unsure if this is a watch for me. I find myself to be more of a classics kind of guy and would prefer a 16750 or 16710 over this one...
  10. I used to be of the mindset of aging vintage builds, but over time, my opinion on this has changed. I don't think there's much reason to beat the hell out of the watch just to make it look old; rather just wear it and let the aging happen naturally. Nothing wrong with having a like-new looking watch; I've seen and handled several vintage goodies over the last few years that were simply well cared for. These pieces look especially great coming back from an RSC service as well. So, is having a new looking 30 year old watch plausible? You bet!
  11. Submariner models from the mid 80's (16800/168000) to 2002 (16610 Y serial/early F) had lug holes on the side of the case, which exposes the ends of the springbars. 2003 (mid/late F to present 16610) have no lug holes and are smooth on the case sides. SELs came around the A serial time frame if memory serves correct. Example- Lug holes: No holes: 14060's BTW are the exception as even current models still have lug holes and loose end links... All of the above is with regards to genuine reference. As of current, there are plenty of reps with the 'no holes' case; what a lot of people would like to see is a nice, high quality and accurate 'holes' model to build older model Subs (both 16610 and the 16800's) with. My concern however, is that the lug holes need to be positioned just right in the lugs...
  12. Projects never end... That is for sure. Well done, my friend! Cheers, R
  13. I've never understood those either. I tend to see younger folks wearing these; more of a fashion thing than anything else...
  14. Of all the rep 16610 Subs I've owned, that WM9 definitely tops them all!
  15. Looks like that could be someone else's hand reaching out to choke him...
  16. Honpo has one... But it's not anything to write home about.
  17. Perhaps the fix may be as simple as negotiating a new dial and having it swapped?
  18. Yessir... Looks like an MBK to me...
  19. Agree; Glashutte or even Union Glashutte are nice pieces. Gotta love that German silver!
  20. Most reps, noobs included, have the correct sized hands. The really poorly done reps typically do not. Since Eurotimez is a dealer on this forum who specializes in noobs, I've included one of his pics to illustrate that yes; noobs do come with the correct dial and hands:
  21. "Have 'em" as in plural? That's the way to do it when you're trying to decide between two watches; just buy both Edit: Nevermind me... I read two posts up AFTER I made my post
  22. Replace 'Bob Rolex' with 'Patrick Heiniger' and you're golden.
