  1. Well, in my case, the 2836 that I had tried fitting in my case had the stem positioned too far towards the caseback in the tube; hence, it would allow the crown to screw down, but the tension would cause the stem to snap. Fitting the 2824 brought the stem forward towards the dial side just enough to center it... And hence solving my problem
  2. The stem sits closer to the dial side with a 2824... .25mm seems about right (or maybe even a slight bit less). I discovered this when I was building my Franken-DJ...
  3. Something tells me r11co likes his Seawolf
  4. Good stuff! Great list of mods, and resistant to 10 bar!! Wow! Very nice!
  5. Wow!! NICELY done! Very cool... That dial is amazing!
  6. Agreed. Why call it an ETA if it's not? They don't call the Asian 21j a Miyota... Or even a Miyota clone. Rather, they simply call it a 21j Asian movement, as it should be.
  7. For setting the hands onto their posts, I use a toothpick.
  8. Just kind of depends on your own pref... I always ref as (example) one-six-five-two-oh (16520), or one-six-six-one-oh (16610) and so on. No rhyme or reason... Half the time, if the watch is not a current offering, I have to tell the sales guy the model as I'm usually met with a blank confused look (like, huh?). But the hardcore Rolex guys at my AD are pretty fluent on model refs of the last 3/4 decades...
  9. Methinks Pugwash has an automated script with artificial intelligence running 24 hours a day that generates replies to posts
  10. I use the dial to lift the hands off the pinion- Same as Avitt's suggestion. Works well... Just have to take a bit of caution in not bending the hands, pinions, or scratching/rubbing the dial.
  11. Too cool... I think your baby girl will love it Then again... Not everyone can say they have a one-off custom made ff/913 special! She'll be the envy of the playground... Will you be luming the hands in pink, too?
  12. I buy my wife reps to see how well she'll do with them prior to buying her the gen equivalent. To date, I have not bought her a single gen, because all her current reps receive too brutal of punishment on a daily basis; I tend to 'baby' my watches whereas her's get knocked around with no regard. On the plus side, her watches serve as a great example as to how durable reps really are
  13. Not yet... Still scraping along with my old A70... I may hold off on the camera for a while. I have a ton of other stuff I'd like to buy first (new wheels for the car, new furniture for the Mrs. and a couple of other watch projects)...
  14. Happy birthday, fellas! All the best... R
  15. Perhaps you might ask your friend if he can CNC you some proper tools to work on your watches first...
  16. I went with the noob caseback as it actually had the engravings inside (the original back did not). Typically, such detail is not of concern to me, but since I had both, I figured why not? Shortly after initially posting the completed watch, another member had alerted me to the fact that his noob caseback had a slightly better shaped back than his MBW. After comparing the two myself, I found that mine was the same- Slightly different shape in profile (taller). So... Another added benefit by chance
  17. Thanks gang... Kind of nice to have this one back on the wrist. I was asked about the list of ingredients as of current... Here's how it breaks down: -Case/Crystal/Bezel are of unknown origin... Has some very distinct features that relate to TW Best and some MBW, but also some that neither seem to have. Wish I knew more about it... I'd like to get another one. -Genuine 16610 bezel insert -Genuine crown and tube -Replacement hands of unknown origin... Found them in my parts box and just decided to use them -Noobmariner dial -Noobmariner caseback -Noobmariner SEL bracelet -CG's filed -Lugs rebrushed -Bracelet and clasp refinished Think that about does it. It's a neat piece... But it's just not a Daytona
  18. No way... You guys are the one's raising the bar every day. I'm just trying to keep up...
  19. Holy moly... I need cliff notes for this thread. 26 pages long, and I'm still on page 18...
  20. Unfortunately, the visual/aesthetic flaw with the sec at 9:00 Daytonas (i.e. the 16520, 16523, 16528, 16518, etc, etc) is the subdial spacing. These are replicas of the Daytonas using the 4030 movement, aka the El Primero 400. The subdial spacing should look like these: There are some other 'tells' as well, like the position of the pushers relative to the crown, etc. But all in all, still a nice looking watch. If you like Daytonas, but don't want to spend $3k+ on a franken, the seconds at 9:00 7750/3 model is probably your best option for a modern... Even with the subdial spacing off. It will be much more reliable than the 116520 (and variations) model....
