tourbillon... This is a common problem with the modified 7750 seconds at 6:00 Daytonas The modification involves 11 extra gears added to the movement; this introduces a lot of stress and strain (probably more than the 7750 was designed for).
As for finding a replacement... Not sure that there are any available. One option may be to take the added bridges and gears from the old movement to transplant onto a new 7750. There's no telling how long that would last, but it would get you working for the time being.
With the AS movements, the date usually rotate CCW (and I say usually, as I can only comment on the ones I have seen). I have tried fitting a few into my vintage projects, but they turned out to be more headache than anything...
In the end, I have found that a nice slow beat ETA 2846 simply works better, and is easier to physically fit, as it is a 1:1 replacement with the 2836.
The El Primero 400/410 is a pretty complex movement; not sure it would be very easy to duplicate.
Ziggy did a great breakdown review on one I sent him for an overhaul...
EP400 teardown
Still... Would be nice to have a movement that would at least replicate the subsidiary spacing. That would open up a lot of possibilities with models not available to us now.
Arch.... I am humbled by your kind words, but you, W and I all know that this project would still be nothing more than an idea without your efforts.
I thank you for your hard work on this! It's been an incredible journey thus far...
Ha! I wish... The truth of it all is just that I've been messy... And lazy.
...But this morning, I realized I have to tear my franken 16610 apart again, so more work at the table sometime this week anyways...
Nicely done, Ruo. I agree with PAMman, however... Eliminate the stubbies, and if you can, snag a gen caseback (watchco/watchadoo) to eliminate the pointy A's...
Regardless// That's a very cool franken that you put together! With a gen 552 inside, it's sure to bring many years of enjoyment
If I had a dollar for every part I dropped... No, wait. If I had $0.50 for every 4 letter expletive exchanged for every part dropped... I'd have a new El Primero... Oh, wait...
