  1. Been insanely busy... But it's nice to see some familiar friends and faces! utheman... Good to see you as well, sir! Hope all has been going well!
  2. I'm late to the party... And what more can be said? This is a fantastic build! But it's what I've come to expect from Mr. LHOOQ...
  3. Nice baseball diamonds, asf! dave- Great to see you, sir. I hope you are doing well... As for who invited me? Why... I think that was Justasgood himself, actually!
  4. Gotta love Rodico (and thank you, asf)! Hope you guys have been busy building some neat toys... Anything new to share?
  5. Yeah... Sorry guys Been busy with a number of things these days and have not had a chance to log on. I do miss my friends here...
  6. V72 6265 franken... EP400 16520 franken...
  7. Tanks, fellers! red, LHOOQ, coolfire- I have to admit that I rather enjoy the look of the champagne day/date wheels with this dial combo. gives the watch a somewhat 'warm' feel to the appearance. I would almost equate it to a similar effect that lightly patina'd tritium markers would cast on a black matte dial. Diz- For setting the day and date, it's really not so bad I use the pseudo quick method of setting the hands to flip the date once and then rotate the hands back in reverse past 6 (18:00) and roll forward again past 12 (0:00). The date will change over again without having to do the full 24 hour cycle of hands to flip to the next date. The same method applies for the day except in reverse. Zelini- I would have to say that if the subject in your avatar is yours, then you have something far more precious and valuable than any watch could ever compare
  8. A few of the current line up... 5514: 1016: SS DD: 6265: 16520:
  9. Likewise, Dave! Great to see you as well, kind sir
  10. Congrats to 5,000! No matter how many times I see your sig gif, I can't help but crack up....
  11. T'is a bizarre hobby indeed. I'm still trying to figure it out myself
  12. Indeed- The black dial is quite interesting. I rec'd it as-is and have only cleaned off some light marks on the surface; texture is otherwise unaltered (the coarse surface appears to be quite muted when viewed under the crystal). The only frustrating thing is that the luminous dots had been removed at some point in it's past... Some slight residue left over as a result but I am thankful that whoever removed the plots did so without scratching or knicking any paint off the surface. One of the most difficult aspects of this project was finding a nice WG dial. I originally wanted a white dial with the 5 min numeral track (even better with red quarters); I was offered one, but I just couldn't see paying 1300 Euro for it. I was then offered the mint white dial and jumped on it (especially for the price paid). The matte black was already en route. Other choices were silver with stick markers and another with wide, fat markers (kind of like the gold dial on my other movement). All in all, a fun little watch and good for someone like me who can't remember what day it is (kinda funny considering that most of my other watches don't even have a date function...) Heck, I don't even mind the slow set day/date...
  13. You know, I think I would probably help my friend and offer the movement to him if I was 'buyer #2'. It's just a material object; friendships are worth more than that to me.
  14. I've been trying to figure out how to build a vintage Rail... A CK2914 would be so choice. But I don't think it's gonna happen
  15. I might have to get one. The pillows in my current watch box are all over the place. Some are snug... Some are loose and the watches just kind of rock back and forth in the slots (pretty annoying). Is he offering the exotic wood grains still? Heh... Mr. B- If I sell the Daytonas, what will I have to fill the box with?
  16. Oddly enough... The last 3 watches that I built were (2) 36mm pieces and a 37mm. ...But I do have a 44mm in the works... And I do have a number of 42mm pieces in th watch box (along with 40mm and some 44mm). Some days, going big is okay. And some days, I like to fly under the radar. I think it's nice to have something for most any occassion. Variety (and versatility) is always a good thing
  17. Probably pissed cause you didn't offer to give them to him for free... But I don't see how that's stiffing him... You never agreed to part with said items in any kind of transaction with him anyways... Therefore, he did not have exclusive claim or offer on those parts (i.e. no money had traded hands). Last I checked, you are free to do what you like with your property/items/possessions... Just because you didn't agree to sell/trade/gift to one person over another doesn't mean you stiffed someone out of a deal...
  18. I've done CGs for some folks, but lately my time has been largely consumed by the *other* work (read: day job). Doh! I did recently fix up the guards on my J&W 5514 case, however... Did this one slowly in my free time, over the course of 5 or 6 days...
  19. I'd probably address the CG's first and foremost. And then swap the insert out. Dial/hands (lume color and tone) to follow and depending on how far you want to take it, maybe swap the movement as well, addressing the datewheel at that time. The tough thing about MBWs and 1680s is that the opening for the dial is a bit on the small side. But those cases do work well for 5512 and 5513 models...
  20. Thanks for the kind words! I'm wondering how many of you think I've built a fantasy franken here? Indeed... I did put this one together with champagne day/date wheels. I wanted a little splash of color, and in person the tone looks more like an aged, off white finish. I like it, but I suppose that's personal pref (Mrs. Ubi thinks white wheels would be better as well). I'll probably go with white day/date wheels with my white dial project. And speaking of the white dial... I somehow ended up with it while collecting parts. Since I tend to double down on everything when building projects, I always finish with some spare bits to entice me into continuing on to an additional piece. Part of my addiction I suppose. My recipe list: -Rolex 1556 movement -Gen dial -Gen hands -Gen 25-118 (chosen for height; this crystal provided enough clearance for the hands) -Gen 24-600 -Gen 24-6020 -Gen steel case modified for the 1556; ref and s/n erased -Gen 1600 bezel -Gen 78360 -Gen 580 ends (temporary solution for the time being, I'll switch to something a little more proper at a later date. For now, they work) As for the 1665... It's still on the radar, but a bit forgotten. I have to admit that since I have a 5514, I kind of feel as though the 1665 might be a little... Redundant? Not like that's ever stopped me before but I did want to tackle something a little different this go around. I'll get around to the SD sooner or later... Hmmmmm... Black and white... Seems like I've almost come full circle, eh? Thanks for looking! //ubi
  21. Just snip the dial feet off... Not a problem...
  22. If you are after a later dial, gen is definitely the way to go. Pricing should be fair...
