Iwc Ingenieur Ss Bracelet Problem
Richard Tracy replied to lovepanerai's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
From your photos,.. it looks like they welded it fully...either that or the angles are not right... On mine, the contact points were no where near complete and therefore several lines of light escaped,... I think yours will be fine,...but I would still add some extra weld,..just in case,.. With the weight of this watch, if it were to hit the pavement,.., the damage would be devastating.... I don't understand the laziness, that would cause such a shoddy job on such a substantial and beautiful watch... but Jay and EL gave them hell,... Jay alone lost tens of thousands of dollars, because of this and the cheap paint they used for some of the dials,... that is one of the reasons why he finally relented to go into the watch manufacturing area.... So I guess some good came from all this after all... -
..I wish... there are no reversos even close to that model,...

I'm partial to number two,..

Iwc Ingenieur Ss Bracelet Problem

I think it's best to apply the weld before it breaks... On mine, holding it up to light...I could see that there was contact, only in a few places,.. therefore I applied some Loctite with a needle to fill in the areas that were open,... I then turned it over and did the same with the other side until I could not see any light escaping...then applied another line on both sides,.. just in case.. Usually preventative measures are much more effective,... Good thing however that the kevlar strap is out,.. I personally think it looks better than the metal band....which I will order for the chrono version... -

Getting Ready And Packing To Move To Australia
Richard Tracy replied to ajoesmith's topic in General Discussion
Simple solution... sell all your watches .. but one,.. in a fire sale in the trading forum... Then with the funds... once you arrive .. go straight to Ken's house and buy some of his watches... -
... hey, how about your first rip off,.... I'll start,... once, when I was a wee lad,.. I shoveled snow four hours after a blizzard to earn a shiny new quarter,.... the money was for a new coin machine at the corner store, that had hired me, which had watches of all sorts,.... gold, stainless, and one with a wiggling nurse in the dial,... Once finished, running back down the sidewalk I could hardly wait,.. then, there was the machine,.....sitting there like a gift giver from the future,... I got paid, then went back to to insert my coin carefully making' sure that it was seated properly,..even turning it face out and up,... then turning slowly listening for the clicks, and the plastic case falling into the slow below,... I pulled up the flap and retreived my prize,.. eyeing the case, this one has a paper cover hiding what was inside,... I immediately pryed open the cover,.. and ... the paper was the watch,.. only it had a sticker back for me to apply it to my wrist.... I screamed at the store owner,.. but he refused to refund me,... and I spent the rest of the day piling the snow back onto his sidewalk... That was my first replica....and my last rip off....

Thanks for posting JTB,... I miss the true Gent. Dave as well...and pray him recovery.. He has, bar none the most elegant collection of watches I have ever seen,.. gen or rep,.. and that includes Neils... Also 2005SUBMARINER,... thanks,.. Pams also surprised the heck out of me,...turning me from a Panerai skeptic to a believer...
-
.. are we going to allow the negative post win over the positive...? Has no one else been surprised by the quality of their reps ? ..

Hmm,.. this seems to be a recurring theme... mbw vintage, though sought-after and loved by some, are a huge dissapointment for those that are not aware of how they look, feel and fit in real life... I know it must seem pretty ignorant to those that know how rare they are,... but,..one man's diamond is another man's glass...

Problem With My New Precious And Need Your Advice...

If you just got it,... and did nothing wrong,.. I say send it back... -
Size is not as important as case curvature and lug width.... A large watch that curves into the wrist will look fine even in a larger size, and wider lugs allow for a wider strap, which also will cover thinner areas of the wrist. Regarding diameter,.. the most important is from north to south,.. not east to west,... Just make sure that the lugs do not overhang the wrist...

Hmmm.. I was just thinking that Tvt would post just this kind of thread... and here it is... Let's see,.. the biggest,.. that would be my $430 plus shipping,... mbw drsd,.. After all the hype,. the watch, imo, was no better than the $60 specials that I purchased for curiosity sake. The face was cheap looking,.. the case, with band was light as plastic... and the crown guards the same as any other rep.... Then when I put it on... it was so small, and the caseback so pointed, that it looked like a little ice cream cone on my wrist,... I know that this means that I would not enjoy a genuine drsd... so I guess it's a cheap was to discover that fact...
-
What a coincidence,.. I finally broke down and purchased one of those...$80 used... it's in transit now..
