Not being an expert by a stretch of the imagination.... but surely the point is that they are only testing water resistance to a nominal depth whereas the CG is designed to stop the pressure at depth from popping out the crown or reducing the ability of the gaskets.... IE the CG lever is designed for maintaining the watch in deep sea though the watch should still be water resistant (Nominally) without the CG.... also underlines why they test the lever tension...

Thats a good point... I only have one thinner CB (cartel) I will try that... All the movements used have been serviced in last few months by Zig Thats more the point I was trying to make... its the cases I believe that are creating the extra noise... as I varied the cases in the combinations I used... but not the crystals, tubes, CB etc I also found a Swiss noisier (just serviced) in the H factory case than the JF or Gen.... -
Yes mate.... I was playing around with polishing some cases and bracelets a while back and grabbed things from under the sink and in the garage... I found a bottle of car wax I had and found it gave a really long lasting lustre on polished metals... whereas the wheel sealer was sweet on the satin... It was A1 Speed Wax Plus 3..... I bought it for the fact in was a non residual wax which didnt leave white on vinyl etc and was easy application easy wipe off... worked great on the motors... great beading and lasted 4-5 washes

Lovely pics.... I wish my camera was as crappy as that Great looking watch too.... now I need to go see the gen -
Basically and without going back to my reference info... my memory aint what it was !! The PreVs ie 203a and 202a are pencil grey though the early issue 202a's were done by a different source and can be pretty different now to how they looked then... with age it would be more gun metal grey.. As a rule of thumb ... all 6500 and first edition 6502 cases are pencil grey as these were produced by pre vendome suppliers and produced at the same time as the 5218-209 and 5218-210 by the same sub contractors ie the Cartier style..single bar end screw, longer thinner lugs, thin CG etc etc... with the second 6502 cases and after Vendome changed suppliers to cut costs these produced darker and thinner (poorer) PVD finishes.. this was changed again... as I recall for 6518 cases or certainly B series which remained darker but not as poor quality.. So basically if you want a PreA then its pencil... A series on is darker... Similar rule to the way the dial and markers changed in terms of fill, thickness and varnishing.. Though throw in the odd OP ambiguities with that... such as the 009A (Pencil Grey) and PreA 004 (Dark Black) or 026A (shiny dark)

Thanks for taking the time and sharing mate The finish is certainly a decent one and will be suitable for the few PVD PAMs that are pencil grey

Didnt say he was an 'office lad' though I have found different ways for different finishes of metal... for brushed such as a Rollie bracelet I use Scotchbrie, Grit paper and alloy wheel sealer... for polished I use Red or White rouge depending on quality and sometimes black... I have found car wax gives a nice finish

Hi guys My wifes DJ is playing up when trying to close the bracelet clasp... it wont snap/click shut.. just pops in and pops out... I tried playing with the female connection but to be honest made it worse.... are there any tutorials on sorting these things please... I cant work out the principle of adjustment... ie should I increase the female gap? Reduce the female gap? or lift or lower the male connection? Any help would be appreciated...
-
Even with a Rollie !! Mate you do it to me everytime !!

An absolutely stunning rep.... and once you see the dial you appreciate the extra dosh... relatively speaking that is...
-
Isnt Taka in Singapore? If so he is your man mate But I know there are other guys from there who have good watch makers... try asking generally in the General Discussion section Sorry to hear of your woes though... good luck mate

As for my hair.... well I aint got none to worry about.... Mate.... I still remember that toasting you did.... which I loved.... But this is lovely .... it really reminds me of those early OP prototypes you see now and again but never went into production... I really like the strap combo stitching really pulls out the hands... and the choice of hands really lifts the dial.... overall I really like it.... another great idea realised... I would have no problem wearing it... though I must admit I would want to take the shine off the PVD finish.... Great work F and thanks for sharing... you have done it to me again mate.....

Must be a problem with the site.... I cant see it in the sales section Congrats Marty..... Sweet
-
Sweet @Ken... Generally the Pop goes for between 50 and 80 quid But I think values vary on older collections/models etc
-
I cant say I understand.... I werent there.... but I do remember how excited I got finding this site and reading all the great threads and seeing so many reps..... and wanting them regardless of accuracy... it was more about the fun then for me... but as I learnt on this forum about reps compared to gens.... and became more knowledgeable I found myself becoming more fussy/anal about watches especially specific models (COpamUGH).... But to be frank and with respect... I think, inadvertently, its the fault of you older members.... you have helped push the envelope... in a way the monster was created here....admittedly there are other factors in terms of what new members/visitors want from this forum and the reps they buy... just look at the QC queries etc but the fact remains if it wasnt for the discussions, the reviews etc that members like B-T etc have done over the years then we wouldnt have these super OTB reps we have now or the attitude reps like that create.... so in a way... and I mean this most humbly..... a lot of the comments here are a creation of the original enthusiasm and excitement you all seem to crave or miss... I suppose the same analogy could be about how your Dad use to say how a particular way of doing things was easier or was more appreciated in his day... like Xmas presents etc... I do the same myself now with my kids... !!! Hopefully that makes sense and dont cause offence...

Very nice mate... but where are the watches ? ;)

Great thread mate.... nice pics Thanks for sharing Now which of those QC pics do you want us to comment on ???

When I looked at the gen .... I found the DW was sunken like the old DLs or 187s with A7750s.... I was quite surprised though the in-house explained it... Wheaton is the guy to ask he has a 312.... which he keeps flaunting to us lesser unworthy members !!!
