  1. Dusk, You will not be banned, Project X is a celibrated customizer who has done much very cool work!Of course there is a huge contingent who believe "The Rolex brand should never be tampered with". I'm w/ you the crownguardless Sub is really neat. Go to "Rolex Passion" & take a look at the "Heritage" sub also by Prolect X,I am having one built as we speak! Our beloved forum has a very substantial contingent of those who really dig Mods.....Best, mcotter
  2. yup, RA does recommend the Puretime 1680. can anyone confirm that there is proper engraving between the lugs? thank you, mcotter
  3. I agree w/ Freddy, the coloration looks fine. the big gripe w/plated SS watches is the durability of the plating. most often the plating w/ wear on the parts that have the most hand contact & leave telltale SS showing. the plating can be redone of course following dissasembly & plated by a talented hand.Sometime ago I had a 40's Rolex tonneau dress watch replanted very successfully, so it can be done! I'd wear that Daytona,It deserves wrist time, the plating may well have a long life! best, mcotter
  4. Martin, If you're in for the 25th, I'll hike over from Detroit....Best, mcotter
  5. Gold plating a SS case & parts can be done w/o much difficulty. The trick is to find a vendor who w/ patiently allow the plating to build up and not be ready to dissappear w/o heavy use. I have had vintage cases plated successfully & had a long life span.... Look for a jeweler who has plating expierience & go for it! The cases ie: DW have been electroplated by a competent tech & w/ some effort you can find a resource....Best, mcotter
  6. Droptopman Rather than wire wheels try using "Scotchbrite", I know the pros use wheels that are of that material in a few different courseness'. Even working a green pad by hand can create a very genlike result.... Best, mcotter
  7. Well done! I agree the contrast looks great, glaze the pearl to match the dial lume (amber water based varnish) & you're off to the races! Best, mcotter
  8. Rockwell, I too think that's a way cool cosmo. I've checked w/ a dial maker that I've used successfully & he can do them. The hitch is that a screen has to be made for the project. I believe the screen is $350 & the printing on my dial is about a $100...I'd consider sharing the screen cost & we'd own it..Your thoughts, mcotter@skbk.com
  9. I'm on the side of Law/ order......It's legit w/o question! Best, mcotter
  10. dbane, I agree wholehardedly...Spend several weeks on VRF & you'll see many 5513's, you'll learn plenty & your comfort w/ grow plenty! Don't buy until you understand the variations of your model....Learning is very satisfying....A 5513 is a great choice! Best, mcotter
  11. Does anyone have insight into the new Blancpain 50 Fathoms? I've read that some TD's w/ have them & Puretime indicates a March availability? Thx, mcotter
  12. The bigger question is where will you source a gen dial? As you may know a dial from an AD must have a damaged one to turn in? Best, mcotter
  13. Yup, Paper dials are a joy! Cutting is also a snap when you use a compass w/ a blade....Perfect circles every time. The blades are Xacto brand & are a hobby shop item, they're tiny & fit the compass as a lead would. The center hole is done last w/ a tiny tube punch. Thanks Joey B you provided the image for my " Rolerai" dial which was my first.....Best, mcotter
  14. cc33, Your "dial guy" has it down, his work is superb! It may be the only rival to RolexAddict's work which I hold in very high regard. He is a treasure, treat him as such!....thanks for showing off his work...best, mcotter I own a fair amount of 40 yr old lume, it's glow is all long past....
  15. ceejay, I did mis-speak, that dial is beautifully patina'd...I misread the start of the thread where "heavely" was mentioned! best, mcotter
  16. it's all about the small details &RA has them all down! the inboard bevel on the crown is perfect...The Master indeed.... best, mcotter
  17. OK, You've got a 1675 case & dial that needs some help! Once you've sorted out what you'd sell these for please Email me, I'm a buyer at fair money. The problem is there will be a myriad of thoughts as to their value. They're valuable yet not a kings ransom as some may opine.....Best, mcotter
  18. LHOOQ, That Speedie rocks! The elders are especially lovely, they're amazingly way under valued. Not as enthused about the Omega bracelets, Mine are all on leather as you may expect...Hope all is well! Best, mcotter
  19. Opinions do differ! I have a few of the " blackened" & I like them. However, they are a bit esoteric & not for many, especially for the vintage lovers as I am. That said, my Prohunter GMT gets a fair amount of wrist time & I am fond of it.....I'd say if you're attracted to these go for one & give it a try! The DLC coating is very durable, I've yet to have an infraction on 4 various pieces...Best, mcotter
  20. Auto & Preacher, I knew that much wisdom would follow my question, I appreciate your response's. It's such a joy having this wonderful resource..... My best, mcotter
  21. As long as we're talking about crowns & tubes...Not having removed a tube before I'm facing it soon w/ an incoming modern GMT which I'm removing the crownguards on. How will I know if it's threaded or forcefit? The 3sided file has been suggested, I assume left hand threads? Thanks in advance for the wisdom, sorry for the elementary question....Best, mcotter
  22. Enlarging the bezel hole is a rather simple matter...w/ the correct size bit & a pinvise by hand it should take maybe a minute...Not tough at all.. Best, mcotter
  23. I recently purchased a "Kemmner" Chrono which is rep of the famous Heuer Bund 2 register German Mil watch. It is powered by the Seagull movement & it works like a charm! All aspects are right on, chrono function is precise as well. I also have seagull handwind movements in a couple historic Pam reps. Same story they perform beautifully! My Best, mcotter
