  1. Hi S, Vintage Rolex Forum, Timezone and ebay are your best bets.
  2. Some snowflakes tomorrow: Saturday: Sunday:
  3. R, congrats on the new beauty! It has been summed up well here already, but I'm in agreement -our frankens are more special and unique with the trill of the hunt and the time involved in getting the details right, than clicking a few buttons or going to a store and handing them a credit card. Regardless, I'm sure you'll enjoy it and also the inherent value it will hold. Our frankens at the end of the day only hold value to us.... Heck, we've got to have something to keep us busy!!!
  4. That's a nice shot for your first wristie Ammandel! 16570 today:

Hi Nanuq, I have to say the CWP redial turned out oretty nice. The font spacing is not 100% on but I wonder if that has more to do with my rep dial being larger than a gen. The gloss finish looks great, it's not glass smooth so it adds some additional patina to the watch. I considered a chapter ring on the redial but I was concerned that the proportions might be off again due to the larger rep dial so I opted not to go that route. I'm no expert but I I'd say a chapter ring on a '64 GMT is certainly appropriate. I've seen many examples even later 60's in a gilt with the chapter ring although they are often in a PCG case.
  6. Cats, this may be the MBW copy (it still cracks me up a re pf a rep ). I believe they were the only model that had the 1680 markings on it. The bezel contruction looks correct. Sounds like you'll have to glue the insert in place, the tolerances vary on the MBW bezels. My 1665 bezel takes an insert nice and tight while my 5513 does not and has to be glued.
  7. Rolex back in the day used to give the customer a choice between a tropic rubber strap or a bracelet for Subs. Hardly a no no, if anything hard core functional. Below is a slightly update silicone version of a tropic strap without the rubber tire smell.
  8. Ditto, great shot!! Some more 1675 wrist time today

Yup! He might work you a deal too if you buy several sets.
  11. Thanks Freddy! Ah yes, I was thinking about the "toast" technique for the hands (I first heard about it from Polexpete). The redial came long after the hands had been re-done and the contrast in tone was even greater. I've also been thinking about a small GMT hand for it.

  14. Many thanks for the kind words guys!!!
  15. I just received my 1675 back last week and I'm really happy with how it turned out for a budget project. I'd like to thank Polexpete for his help in facilitating the CWP redial and also to Vaccum for installing the "missing link" to my 1675 and for reluming the hands. Here is what was done on this 1675: Silix 1675 with 2836 ETA Stock dial was completely blasted clean and rescreened in a gilt gloss finish with vintage lume Stock hands were relumed to a slightly creamy tone (this was done priod to the redial, hence the mismatched lume tones) Bezel was narrowed down on a lathe for a more accurate appearance Lug holes drilled to accept gen springbars Case aged and edges softened on the lugs The lugs and crown guards were also squared off more at the tips Clarks T116 crystal was sanded down to reduce the height and installed Bezel insert was bleached and gently aged Caseback swapped with one from a Silix Bond Sub that had a better shape Here it is before with the stock Silix dial and a flat clear coat on it: And after with the redial mounted with a gen 7836 oyster bracelet for you purists (By-tor & Dockblackrock ): And with the jubilee:
  16. Thanks S and thank you again for undertaking this project and bringing us these dials! Yup, I tried a 1:1 V CG but it didn't fit this case well at all and scrapped that idea, my crystal has already been replaced with one that has no AR coating. I thought I had aged looking indices already with the creamy tritium tone and the hands are already unmatched to the dial .
  17. You can find aftermarket styles like this on ebay in 16 & 18mm:
