  1. They look very, very nice...and will complement the watch as the strap usually is one of the weakest links on reps. Having said that, for two of these straps, you can pretty much buy one AP MBW....
  2. Today I decided it's time to give one of my favorites a little wristtime... WM1680 RL
  3. I've been collecting watches since I was 14.... now, quite some time later... I probably own 60+ gens, from Seiko to Breitling, another 25 or so Swatch (from the days when plastic was fantastic...) and maybe 20 reps. After a couple of low-end reps through the years... I started getting into quality reps in 2005. I am fairly sure that I will continue to dwell in both worlds but there is one thing I really enjoy about the rep-scene: I am more actively involved - the first watch I opened was a rep. I bought tools and since then learned (sometimes the hard way) to do little repairs and mods, which is tons of fun. In retrospect, probably the only reason for doing so was the lack of rep-friendly watchmakers in my neighborhood. I couldn't have been the fear of ruining an expensive piece... as some of my reps cost more than some of the gen I own. I also enjoy sharing my addiction and hobby with great people from all over the world
  4. I might have mentioned before that I'm a certified strapoholic... I have tons of straps and change them very often. A strap can totally change the appearance of a watch. I do have several nato nylon straps and while I like them, especially for vintage Rollies and divers, I was looking for an alternative and found an HK based seller on the bay (watchesu571), who offers these for 9,50$ plus shipping (per piece). Shipment was fast. Quality is fine and I thought I'd share a few pictures with you:
  5. Ooooooooooooooh yeah.... M ... your's were the Cousteau pix I was waiting for....
  6. Nope... the two I have are kaputt... and the replacements (in transit) will be fitted....
  7. What an efficient way to loose weight: I'd throw up every time I'd look at that fugly thing....
  8. A couple of weeks ago, I ordered the 007 PO with additional waterproofing that Silix had posted. I found the original rubber strap (of which I ordered an extra one for my PO Chrono) to be less than perfect (to put it nicely). Silix have been very helpful and two replacement straps are on their way. In the meantime, I tried another strap for the PO: The Hirsch Leonardo Mobile in black rubbber. This series is relatively new and comes in croc, croc-print, calf, shark and rubber. Rubber retail in EU is a little more than the Silix rubber strap (€ 39). It is easier to fit and does not turn out, even on thin springbars, because it features a tube system (similar to PAM) for the springbar. On the wrist, it feels more like a leather strap and does not pull your hair like other rubber straps do. I think it's worth the money and this is how it looks on the PO:
  9. This is a good choice if you want to get back into the game... a Yamaha is a reliable, no-worries bike. Just what you need if you're not a hardcore biker... A Harley is not bought for it's performance... as Harley builds very few models that can keep up with their Japanese counterparts in overall performance and in terms of value for money, unfortunately the only thing that speaks for them is their resale-value. It is in fact a lifestyle centering around tradition, great design&looks and a perfect marketing machinery. This may or may not be attractive and important for you. In any case - Harley has been around forever and you can still buy one if the fever's still there after a couple of years... Just for the record: I've been riding for almost 30 years...and I do like Harleys...even though I presently don't own one...
  10. I love to change straps on my watches and I have a big shoebox full of all kinds of straps... At first, I had a difficult relationship with the Steelfish Super Ocean. I bought it shortly after my Omega Planet Ocean Chrono, a watch that has become my favorite rep and one that gets an awfull lot of wristtime. In addition, the SFSO arrived DOA. The movement would stop right in the middle of a normal day and so after a few days, it went in the closet. I then wrote PT UK, the dealer from which I had bought both watches and he asked me to ship the Breitling back to him for service. I did and after a week of testing, PT decided to send me a new watch. I call this great customer service and he's sure to get more business from me... So when the "new" Steelfish arrived, I finally gave it some wristtime, first on the rep leather strap, then on my gen Breit Rubber strap and then I switched it to one of the nice croc straps from my box... I've really come to like this watch, especially with this dark brown croc strap that nicely contrasts the white dial...
  11. I said mentioned.... not invented..... so you too have nothing to to on a sunday.... ?
  12. I received my rubber strap from Silix two days ago. I wanted to change my Chrono to the rubber strap for summer... sweat kills those nice croc straps too quickly... The Silix strap is ok for the price but a long way from the real deal. The rubber is of a different type, one that has a buil-in magnetism for dirt... putting a little silicone grease on the strap helps, but only for a day or so... The problem with the bad springbars has to be solved by anyone planning to fit this strap. I have posted a solution here: http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=245971 Now for some quick eyecandy:
  13. I got my 007 Casino Royale on rubber plus a spare rubber for my PO Chrono two days ago from Silix. I had the same problem on both watches. The solution is a simple one: You need to replace the cheap, thin chinese springbars with solid, aftermarket ones. Go for one size bigger (the original are 22mm, use 23mm instead.) They are not easy to fit, since the hole in the rubber strap is small. Grease the springbars with some silicone (which is used for the o-rings) and use a springbar tool to carefully push the springbar through the rubber. Make sure not to push on the sprin-loaded end but on the middle part. If you dont have such a tool, use small pliers. The better springbars will push the rubber harder against the case, they will keep it there because they will not bend. I have the strap on two watches and the problem did not occur after I changed the springbars. This solution was first mentioned by Pugwash... Silix then said they would send extra, stronger springbars with each strap. They did... only the extra springbars were of the same [censored] quality and did't do the trick.
  14. .... go for the gen rubber.... it's not that expensive compared to some of the other brand's straps... and the look&feel is perfect. My SFSO is on a brown croc a present but here is a picture from last month with my gen breitling rubber...
  15. I did the same thing with my 111h... I separated the sandwich dial and relumed over the old lume. The result was perfect imho. That, however, is the easy part, because the upper dial will cover up your faults. Reluming hands to fit the new dial... that is a totally different story and I pretty much screwed up mine... I have a lot of respect for lume-masters like The Zigmeister and Co....
  16. The gen is a beautiful watch and I was looking forward to the rep.... but the price is just not for me. Not because I can't afford to spend that kind of money but because in this price range, there's plenty of nice gen watches that come with a manual, a box, a two year guarantee and no customs risk. I think these super-rep prices are getting a little out of hand. Granted, within the rep world, these super-reps stand apart. They are visibly better than their lower priced relatives. But even as rep collector, we should not forget that there is still a biiiiiig difference between a super-rep and it's gen counterpart in terms of manufacturing quality, technical design and QC. Just think about it... you're buying an IWC "Coustau" diver's watch.... I would rather trust my 100$ Citizen divers watch to stay dry during a dive or shower than this $$$ IWC rep.
  17. I had returned this to PT UK cause the movement was DOA... he just sent me a new one which runs like a charm. Great customer service!! (old picture cause my camera is gone...)
  18. Well... to be a great soccer player, you don't need brains or class or taste or style... Becks isn't the first and unfortunately will not be the last to prove that...
  19. Edge... that's a bold thing to do... and a big loss for RWI. I totally understand your position... for me, the math makes no sense... so many great contributors leaving because one person, who is contributing basically nothing of substance, is given the jester's license...
  20. working fine for me (EU)....
  21. Your not planning to sell one of the other three by any chance...?
