  1. Thanks. I hope it can be done - time will show., MG
  2. Wow...puzzling... When I had my "Norge" copper plated fiddy homage done, my metal-master did this: 1) gold plated it and THEN 2) copper plated it. But when if you want a gold finish, you must: 1) copper plate it and THEN 2) gold plate it. Hmm...There
  3. Hi guys, For my "Kosmos Radium" custom project I must install a 2893-2 movement in a DSN 6154 case. (Picture from DSN site for reference) He actually sells two types of these cases: One fits a 6497 movt; The other fits a MOLINJA movt. I
  4. Because they ARE jerky! 28,800 ... is jerky! The 28Kvph guys are sitting ducks!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why-o-why must expensive watches be jerky when everybody knows that the (popular) tangible mark of a luxury watch is supposed to be smoothness? I've been accused for my gen GMT2 being a fake because of the jerky Kvph28,8. One might say it doesn't matter if its gen, on the other hand one might say - and as most rep enthusiasts already are conscious about - "whos reality counts"... Profit-wise - putting a non-jerky (36,000 or more) movement in a luxury watch wouldn't mean a damn thing on the bottom line if its mass produced (as are most - if not models, then systems/types). I'm glad Seiko are escalating this situation. Personally I kinda dislike anything less than 300,000 vph - since the tuning fork in the 70's we haven't seen alotta innovation in the smoothness dept. Dammit! So I guess the best movt for a rep springdrive is a tuning fork (available from ofrei for 250 bux) - not likely. Bring on the SprindDrive jerking rep (not buyin it). Edit: Might buy one and install a fork...... MG
  5. Well Rolls Royce What can I say that I haven't said about your earlier projects, among which are the SLOB and other amazing unique pieces? I don't know what you do for a living - but Panerai should double your pay and get you on their team. You have the appropriate amount of love AND the appropriate amount of logic (a rare combination) to be - what you are - the master. When I see your projects I react with 1) Awe 2) Envy 3) Respect 4) Inspiration Gold is not my cup of tea, but that's besides the point. It's great. Hey Rolli...keep it up!!! Ooops! Just thought of a challenge (&please excuse my blunt spontaneity): Design a watch from scratch! I'd buy a Rolli (or whatever it would be called) any day (if I could afford it)....go for it dude. You are better than the brand you love. MG
  6. Agree - maybe this forum needs a designated area which bundles all projects (in other words, projects should perhaps be available to view both under the area of brand upon which they are based (for example "Rolex"), and under its own area (for example "Projects"). Edit: PM sent admin MG
  7. Clint - you made my day! Wonderful work. I like your out of the box thinking - Well done! Agree w/ Rolli regarding cannon - this will make it even better. I wish I did that to a vintage project I did before I superglued the plexi to the case!!!!! MG
  8. Wonder what kind of movement they put in it if they rep it. 28,800 is a lo-beat compared to springdrive gen. MG
  9. Great stuff. Love everything about. Bewt caseback! MG

  11. Very Nice, I
  12. Particularly w/regards to subsecond indexes! Not much room for error there. Obviously, white filling in engraved areas is impossible as the laser doesn
  13. Yes it was. The 029 would probably ease the burden on the watchsmith, besides its a fast beat. Its a good idea, maybe the answer. However I guess all RWG people are nerds in some way and everybody knows that the "heart" of the watch is the movement. Some guy on this forum, I
  14. Will post all progress here. A message to (all) the grumpy old men on RWG (you know who you are) and sober Germanian perfectionists (you know who you are, don
  15. I saw something called "life clock" recently (or was it "death clock") - the hour hand uses 84 years to do one revolution..... http://technabob.com/blog/2008/03/13/lifet...ime-to-a-crawl/
  16. Thanks. Strap: Largely agree with your NASA idea. Thought I
  17. Hi all. Posting some pics of my first major (from scratch) project. The case will be a PVD DSN 6154 with thick caseback. As for the movement, I'm struggling like a broke [censored] dog to find someone who can convert a tuning fork 218 into GMT movement for 24 hour function. Either that or 28,800 gmt movement. With a secs hand this big (its a cut-down boiler's-dial-needle stretching almost across the entire dial) a super smooth movement is mandatory...The hour/mins hands are modified omega date indicators. Seconds to be engraved into rehaut and superlumed. The dial is based loosely on a the outer are of a speedmaster dial (mins/secs/subsecs indexes). It also relates to vintage Fliegers I guess. But the thing that makes this project an "instrument" rather that a "watch" is IMO its reference to professional military skydiving altimeters (top middle set on pic)! The only thing a watch ever does is repeat itself, so it isn
  18. http://cgi.ebay.com/ETA-2836-2-Original-Ge...bayphotohosting Hi all- the search for a good movement continues... Found this on the bay. Experts - is this movement ready for attachment of a GMT hand or is it necessary to add parts to the movement? Any input greatly appreciated:) MG
  19.
  20. Thanks PBB. Do you have any idea where I can get hold of a 28,800 gmt movement?
  21. OK Thanks. Damn, can't see myself spending lots of good money on a custom project and sticking this movement in it.
  22. http://cgi.ebay.com/GMT-Automatic-Movement...id=p3286.c0.m14 Hi guys - noob question... Damn! Looking for a gmt movement for a Rolex related fantasy project I found this on the bay. Obviously not swiss. Still, can anybody tell me the vph? Need 28,800 or nothing. An alternative could be a Raketa 24 hours movt (supposedly pretty good), but that's 14,400 vph according to the seller... Is there something one should be warned about regarding the movt I found on the bay? How "bad" is the quality? - equal or worse when compared to standard rep asian gmts? Same thing? The low price kinda put me off. Been trying to get hold of a swiss but its either far too costly or not available, and I gotta act fast to because assembly-guys are waiting to start... Cheers, MG
  23. OK t...........gone. damn. that movt, with chunky screws and that weird hold-down-pin thing or whatever it is.. looks like Da Vinci made it in a hurry - as a child. BTW - what (regarding size) should one look for when browsing movts on the bay? I see size 17 and 18 mentioned a lot... just trying to learn MG
  24. For the record - I really think it looks crap, too. Like some kind of amateurish prototype. Thats what got my attention. According to the seller it runs perfectly, guess I'm being just naiive MG
