  1. Have a great time--wish I could have attended.
  2. Since I haven't thrown in any discussion on the current question of "disclosure" among our dealers, or express my true appreciation for everything involved here, I'd like to do so in a slightly round-about way, if I may. I'd first like to start by saying I've received nothing but excellent service (sometimes beyond what I had expected) from every dealer I've done business with on this board. And for the most part, the products I've received on my doorstep were exactly as advertised, or at least what I had interpreted from their description, based on the research I had done previous to purchasing. I know there have been misunderstandings in the past, as everyone will encounter, but any problem I've addressed has always been corrected in a timely fashion. I personally don't feel the need to criticize anyone--dealers or otherwise--for things that they will sort out over time. For me, I think anything along those lines might be looking the gift-horse in the mouth, so to speak--considering what a blessing we have in a lot of these people, on all the boards. The problems addressed with this topic are but subtleties, compared to the real bag of lies that's out there, for those of us not lucky enough to be a part of this community; try a simple Google search for "replica watch" and see what you come up with. On the same token, I certainly don't look down upon anyone else for expressing their opinion of how they feel their experience has been--that's what a forum is specifically for; discourse and discussion. And congratulations to those who are willing to speak their mind reasonably for the rest of us. I do understand there have been discrepancies in the past, but I feel these miscommunications from our top dealers (I believe Josh & Andrew were mentioned)--be they cultural confusion in terminology, or something simply lost in translation--are closer to honest mistakes or misunderstandings, than they are to intentional wrongdoings or malicious deceit. No intelligent salesman with a majority hold over the market-share they command on these boards would be stupid enough to consciously shoot himself in the foot and risk all that. In all honesty, the afore mentioned individuals are probably the closest thing we have here to legitimate businessmen, who've shown unwaivering concern for their customer base, and I believe those actions deserve respect. Truthfully, over all, they've done a decent job of policing themselves; which, in turn, is why they command that market share, & repeat customer loyalty. So far, it's been a very good thing. The dealers sites speak for them and their individual business practices. If someone doesn't want to do business with a certain dealer, they can simply choose another one, after their due-diligence by doing their homework on these boards. If they're not willing to go those lengths, then they can be satisfied with their purchases from the Google search. There's always going to be "caveat emptor" because there's no such thing as complete & full disclosure in sales, simply because no one's perfect. There are always going to be errors that someone can find, somewhere; that's why I am so thankful for these boards and their members who are constantly willing to give their time to help other people less educated in this hobby than themselves. If I could shake your hand, I sincerely would; my thanks goes out to you. Not only for helping me, but for continuing to invest your time helping your fellow members. What we all have here is one hell of a great group of people, in our Administrators and Moderators, the contributing members and our respective dealers. Not to mention our wonderful resident horology experts. Minus the occasional quibble, there's an exponentially growing wealth of knowledge for us to feast from, to continue educating ourselves and others through this hobby; especially to those who are wiling to put their livelihood & legal necks on the line to provide the things we love so much. If there are any problems existent here, for the present they appear to be trivial ones and not truly worth wasting our days quarreling over in thread after thread. Simple attrition will remove any true offenders, just as it has done in the past and will continue to do in the future. I for one, would like to issue my continuing support to those who would accept it & to everyone here who has made this an enjoyable experience for me. I've tried to personally help all that needed it, and hope that I was of some assistance to those nice enough to accept it. Thank you to the Admin for your time, and for providing us this place to continue on with. Thanks to Josh, Andrew, EL, Sash & all the rest of the dealers I've done business with; you've always been extremely courteous & understanding. To The Zigmeister, thank you for you help with all of my movement's problems & questions--most people wouldn't dedicate that amount of time to help others as you do without charging. And my gratitude to the countless members who've assisted me through PMs & emails with all that I've needed help with. For all our members here, I hope these forums stay positive & stick around long enough for those who haven't explored them in depth yet to do so; they really are worth your time. Thanks again and have a great weekend people. Ciao.
  3. To literally piece together the best Sub 16610 rep I could find (without worrying over gen parts) I'd say I've bought at least one Sub from every dealer on the board; regular, perfects, etc. Minus the one black & one LV I kept, all the rest were sold or given away as presents. On a positive note, it did allow me the opportunity to write an in-depth review on almost every dealer's model & the pros/cons of each. The only one I haven't gotten yet is Sash's latest. Looks to be the best out of the newest yet--the good dial print, nice pearl, Josh's CL1 bracelet & clasp, loser-to-gen corwn, etc. Quite nice.
  4. Yeah; because customs gets so few packages, they'll know exactly what this guy's real name is and which package to be looking for.
  5. I'm probably selling this one, if anyone's interested.
  6. I've always labeled mine descriptive, but not specific. Use "child's toy" value "$20". And make sure the packaging looks well done, not sloppy; as if someone were actually going to receive something from you as a gift.
  7. Now that's the one I'm talking about!--the other with the rubber band & red hands just looks cheap.
  8. An excellent replica of the black dial Zenith El Primero chronograph (with functioning chronos) is long over due. Talk about your lay-down sale... Or even this one: You can find shitty reps with non-functioning chronos, but over-all not very acceptable for the believeability factor. http://www.amatory.biz/Watch_ZENITH--280.html
  9. But that would scream "rep". The gens of this body style & dial print-color don't have AR.
  10. See the cyrillic script on the dial? It translates, "I USED TO TRUST THE SOVIETS, NOW MY [censored] GLOWS IN THE DARK."
  11. Is that equipment an expensive complication, or just a simple device like a jeweler's hand-held diamond-tester?
  12. There is no harm or preservation in whether or not you allow the chronos to constantly run. And contrary to poular belief, it doens't use any more "energy" from the movement whether they're working or not.

  14. The period punctuation on your keyboard has got to be worn down to a nub.
  15. The nice (but sad) thing is, you really don't have to do the "homework"; it's already been done for you--all you have to do is search for the cheat-sheets.
  16. I never really took much notice of that--so even the newest Eta Subs, for instance, don't utilize real Eta movements? The crystal is only glass--I'm curious as to how to truly tell the difference; I thought water would bead up like a freshly waxed car on sapphire, but on glass it wouldn't? Hmmm... I will add that it seems--and maybe I'm mistaken--but a lot of people think that when they get a "sapphire crystal", they're essentially expecting a slice from an actual sapphire; like a precious stone in a piece of fine jewelery. If real sapphires existed large enough to cut watch crystals from, they'd be in sitting in museums, not under diamond saws. Even Rolex gens use "synthetic" sapphires; they're all lab grown. From Europestar: What exactly is synthetic sapphire? It is a very hard, transparent material made of crystallizing aluminum oxide at very high temperatures. Chemically, synthetic sapphire is the same as the natural sapphire used in jewelry, but without the coloring agents that give the gemstone its various hues. When it is heated, the synthetic sapphire forms round masses that are sliced into pieces with diamond-coated saws. These disks are then ground and polished into watch crystals. (One reason sapphire crystals are relatively expensive is that the tools required to make them are costly.) Sapphire (whether natural or synthetic) is one of the hardest substances on earth. It measures 9 on the Mohs scale, which is a system for rating the relative hardness of various materials. (Diamond measures 10, the highest rating.) Watch crystals made of synthetic sapphire are often marketed as "scratch resistant", meaning they are very difficult - but not impossible - to scratch. Diamond can scratch them; so can man-made materials that incorporate silicon carbide, with, with a Mohs rating of between 9 and 10, is, like diamond, harder than sapphire. These materials are sometimes used to make simulated-stone surfaces for furniture or walls. The watch wearer should note that accidentally scraping a sapphire crystal against such a surface could cause a scratch. Because it's grown in labs, it can be turned into practically anything: http://www.swissjewel.com/jewels_gallery.htm So is it true that my watches (SMP, Sub, etc.) have sapphire (regardless of how, or which lab made it), or are they simple glass/ mineral-glass?
  17. What should I do if I encounter a fake? "Seek immediate medical attention. Be sure to wash eyes in a solution of saline and petroleum distillates. Scrub all available genitalia--yours or not--with a wire grill-brush and benzene. Immediately report the "sighting" to your group sponsor and/or local support organization. Forty Hail-Marys, and ten Lord's prayers." Jesus H. Christ.
  18. No worries, mate. There's always wife # 3.
