$300? That's a thing of beauty. To be honest, it's identical (don't have in hand right now) to the MQ dial I purchased recently. Beautiful. I'd say closer to $750. It's MQ/Phong quality if not better.
As per The Zigmeister, "the placement of the movement was found to be too far forward, the stem is sitting on the very edge of the tube hole, no where near where it should be in the center of the crown tube."
Conclusion : this case was not made to accept a gen movement.
Update!!! The Zigmeister has hit a road block. It appears this particular case won't accept a gen movement.
What are my options? A Phong case? I'm somewhat concerned about getting another MBK/MBW.
Help! Anyone have a spare 1665 case that can accept a gen 1570?
Thanks guys! I'll see what Zigmeister says. Nice to get some support as my wife simply said - "I don't get it, they all look the same. Black face watch, same bracelet."
As for the dial, it's a "refinished Comex dial on original gen plate" as per MQ.
Well, I'm sure you've all been there before. You gather all the parts, in my case:
MBW/MBK old school 1665 case
Gen dial
Gen insert
Gen crown and tube
Gen 1570
MQ Comex dial and hands
Beautiful Comex caseback purchased right here from a great and trusted member.
Input everything in the box and off to the Zigmeister it goes.
Then, BOOM! The movement won't sit in the case correctly. Machining is required which may or may not work. What's a guy to do??
This is what I usually do - hopefully I am not messing anything up.
In the morning, I select my watch. I set the date to one day before the current date (ie: today is the 7th, so I moved the date to 6). After that, I use the hands to move the date forward.
Is this ok?
I've tried replying to several posts today but each time, the system freezes on me as it says "saving post"
Anyone else having issues? Not sure if this post will even go but let's give it a whirl! Maybe it's only when I'm replying or quoting?
For me, a super Franken with genuine movement is as good as the real deal.
Of course, with a gen on the wrist, never any fear of being called out.
Rolex will always be considered fake. When I wear an IWC or PAM, no one knows what i am wearing. So, it's always assumed to be "real" whatever that means.
Say nothing more. It could be he paid gen dollars and bought it off a friend/acquaintance. How many TCs have we seen on eBay in the thousands of dollars.
If he's happy, don't do anything to get fired.
1680, LH : thanks. I will forget about that case. I was going to take a detailed look later today but I won't bother.
As for the dial, I will continue thinking about it. I love the explorer dial but love the rarity of the Space Dweller.
