  1. Im leaning towards my original. What about the crystals? The new one has a greater amount of distortion vs my old one. I know there are different types of crystals for these but any input would be greatly appreciated.
  2. It was sold to me as gen. I spent hours on TRF and VRF researching before I pulled the trigger. I found many examples of gens. The key is the underline and Swiss in silver against the gilt dial. The age spots on thr dial look too authentic to be faked. Also, the no dots/no underline match perfectly. The serial number also matches this range. http://rolex.watchprosite.com/show-nblog.post/ti-829288/
  3. See this thread. Took a little while since the search function is down. http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/155540-comex-dial-options-which-is-more-accurate/
  4. Just checked out the CWP website and can't see any dials. I'll check my notes on my 1st 1665.
  5. Ubi, if you ever decide to sell either, give me a heads up! Just not too soon as my budget is gone for now! Nice and stealth!
  6. Thank you sir! I will always have a soft spot for your Comex, though! I will wear as is for a little while. The macro shots obiously highlight everything, on the wrist, it's amazing.
  7. I know what you mean. Yet, I've seen gens with similar color. True. These 2 dials are identical. It's really down to question of color. My old one is an MBW with gen 1570, crown, crystal, insert, springbars and what I think is an NDT dial. It also has a gen silver datewheel. No HEV. That's why I may transfer everything into a Phong mid-case with working HEV. See here : http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/160345-phong-and-mbw-compatibility/ The new one is a Yuki case, gen 1570, crown, super dome, insert, springbars and a NDT dial. White silver datewheel. Working HEV. I was hoping to like my new dial more. That way, the new watch does not need touching. I can take my old one, move everything into the Phong and swap dials. Still not sure. I'll wear them both for a little while. To top it off, I have an old MBW DRSD with a slow beat ETA. Not sure what this will become...
  8. In addition to my double red 1665, I also picked up this beautiful 5513 based on a Yuki case, gen insert, crown, gen 1520 movement and what appears to be a genuine dial with a single underline in silver and the "swiss" in silver. It's not the best re-lume but the dial is stunning and all the writing on it, although crisp, almost vanishes from the dial at certain angles. There are some age spots on the dial which only add character to this one. I was never a fan of the 5513. Honestly, if it wasn't for the dial, I would have passed on it. Love it. Just need a bracelet for this one. Take a look! Notice the crown, no lines, no dots...
  9. I have a Minh 1665 Comex. I will try to find a picture or take another
  10. And the crystal comparison VS (not as clear)
  11. Take 2: New yellow/orange lume VS the old - creamy white with a hint of yellow
  12. One of my favorite watches is my 1665 DRSD with a gen 1570 under the hood. I've been gathering parts to build a 1665 Comex to complement it for some time. After several setbacks, I decided to pick up an already built 1665 DRSD (yes, I now have 2) with a beautiful 1570 in there as well. As i debate which dial to sacrifice, I'm reaching out to all the experts. Both dials are beautiful but very different. My original one has only a faint tint of yellow in it - almost whitish creamy. The new dial is more yellow/orange. I like them both. I swear they are the same dial except for the color. Opinions, PLEASE!!! Also, although i purchased both with supposed gen crystals, both are very different. I will post pics later but the new one has a greater distortion effect. My old one: My new one: My old one: My new one:
  13. Wow! Even before I saw the number of posts, this was obvious!
  14. So, are you saying that if I use phong mid case + MBW retaining ring, bezel, etc... It will work? I'm no modder so I will likely outsource this. Thanks again.
  15. No way. Do a search on TRF. There's a great thread over there. But those 2's are awful looking. Notice how the top loop seems to extend beyond the base of the 2.
  16. I have a phong 1665 mid case. Can I use a MBW retaining ring on it or will I run into issues? Phong seems to tell me I need one of his fitted. Is he just trying to make a sale? My plan is to use the phong mid case, + MBW caseback, + MBW retaining ring. Thanks
  17. I absolutely love the white dial! That being said, for me, it's a white dial PN with red subdials all the way. I'm glad to read they are not "rare". I will reference this article when my build is complete and someone points to it while it handsomely sits on my wrist.
  18. Search function also down. Must be due to issues experienced over the weekend.
  19. I will go against the tide and go with the GMT IIc. It's beautiful and, yes are quite common. However, when it comes to Daytona's, I prefer the vintage.
  20. I can sympathize. It's a real pain sometimes. I was actually on the opposite end recently. I PMd "I"ll take it" but needed several days to get funds into my Paypal. I kept in touch with the seller, though and he agreed from the start to hold it for me. Not for a minute did I ever think of bailing on him! All we have here is our word and reputation.
