  1. I am planning on replacing the stock DW crown on the Daytona dial. Before I pull the trigger on a damaged dial, what should I be looking for? Color? Silver, I guess. Size, are they all the same? Shape? Target is a 6263 silver dial. Thanks
  2. Looking nice. Have you considered a non-screw down case for the PN dial?
  3. Why the airking? I'm thinking doing same but was looking at DJ's.
  4. That's awesome! One small part at once!
  5. I thought so. It's just the "1570" looks like my 2yr old nephew engraved it!
  6. This seller often has nice parts. However, on this listing, the 1570 stamp looks weird. Is it normal? There's another listed on eBay with a similar stamp. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-70s-ROLEX-1570-movement-parts-1600-1601-1607-1603-1625-1611-/120868312879?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c2450172f#ht_500wt_689 Thanks
  7. Isn't the 1665 case too thick for a 5514? I thought the 5514 was thinner, a sub sized case but with an Hev valve. Sorry, I meant build a 1665 comex as a 1665 Comex instead of building a 5514 Comex.
  8. I've done much reading in the last few days. And given the various projects I have under way, I am wondering if I am not better off going with a 1665 Comex. I already have a rarely used MBW Great White with gen crystal, crown, tube and insert like my DRSD. I would need a case back, ingod dial and gen movement (another one!). Only bugger for me is that I end up with 3 SD's... I guess that's why Ive been holding onto the MBW 1665. The 5514 Comex is that much rarer and I would like to have the no date option but that also means adding yet another watch to the stable... or as my wife would say, "the same black face watch"! Once again, I keep going back and forth. Therapy over!
  9. Olivier, who is your source??? I am quite envious!
  10. Thanks! It's a wm9 TT sub so I assume it's wrapped. I will check them out!
  11. That is stunning! Every time I see one, I drool! Plus, with your specs... I'm drooling over drool! If you ever want to part with it, this fellow Canuck will take it no questions asked! Enjoy
  12. Good scenario which will run you close to 50% of a gen. $2,500 is nothing to sneeze at especially when you consider you could built a 2nd franken from the savings. It reminds me of an earlier thread which attempted to define what qualified as a franken. I think once you have a gen movement in there, crystal, crown, insert, clasp... It's pretty damn near franken. I don't include the dial because of the prohibitive costs of sourcing some dials like a PN Daytona, Comex, Milsub or Double Red. I know in many cases the dial is key but just too damn expensive!
  13. I agree. Only builds putting a gen movement is to match a gen watch selling over $10k. (Daytona, DRSD, Red Sub, Comex, Milsub, 1655) After that, it's just too close in price. My 2 cents, at least.
  14. ingod does not carry Comex dials. Anyone know the best source for a no date Comex dial?
  15. Freddy, thanks for the links. That is an impressive build. You've given me something to reach for.
  16. 7 years ago, did Gen Rolexes have the LEC at 6 o'clock like this rep? It looks younger than 7 years.
  17. Freddy, asimplefarmer what case is that with the HE? What kind of movement do you have in it? Deltahoe, does yours have an HE valve? I've gone back to the Austriarep Comex thread even though it was not a no-date. That piece was stunning.
  18. Every time I walk in a pawn shop, I dream of this very scenario!. Congrats. It allows me to keep hope alive!
