  1. UPDATE! Thanks to your suggestions, I tried holding the rotor and shaking the watch. Nothing.. SO it is the rotor making all the noise. I see no marks on the case back so I don't think it's rubbing. Without the case back on, i hear the "cling-clang, cling-clang". What can I use to lubricate the sucker? As for the impossible-to-open case-back, the watchsmith used one of the jaxa-type. I have a Bergeon 5537 tool which I also tried and, trust me, this thing is tight. If I had something to place the watch on while I turn with the Bergeon 5537, that would probably help but I am using my hands only.
  2. I'm seriously considering putting in a gen 1570 movement into either a Red Sub or Double Red MBW case. The cost of servicing such a movement always convinced me to stay away but the idea keeps coming back to me. My question is, as the title suggests, who services them? Any "friends of ours" here knowledgeable enough to service gen Rolex movements? Where would they source replacement parts, if needed? Thanks for your input.
  3. I started a couple of posts recently about 2 problems i've been having. 1. I have something lose in one of my watches. I thought it could be the rotor screw becoming undone but that's not it since the screw is now secured and no longer getting loose. When I walk, I can hear something rattling in there. I have no idea what it could be. 2. I have a slightly lopsided dial. I am not sure if the dial is warped or it's something inside. I took them to a watch smith I know. He doesn't work on reps but agreed just to have a look as a favor. He saw nothing with problem #1 but agreed that the screw is fine. With problem #2, he could not even open the case back! I had tried myself but this thing is tight like it came out of Rolex headquarters. He was so impressed with the watch build with a gen crystal, crown, tube, insert, drilled lugs and the tightness of the case back that he's convinced it's a gen! It's not, believe me. I am now out of ideas! If he can't open it, what the hell!? I know he was nervous handling the watch since I told him how much the parts were worth but he nearly broke a sweat trying. Any suggestions? That problem #1 watch is a SSD and it's one of my favorites. Is it feasible forvme to remove the crown and movement and see what's happening? I've never tried anything like that! For watch #2, I'm wondering if I could go about it the other way and remove the crystal? I've never done that either and that's a gen crystal! Maybe I could see if it is the dial that is warped. Help, please as I'm out of ideas and running low on patience!
  4. Where did it come from?
  5. I really could have skipped this while having coffee and breakfast.
  6. BK does not re-Lume. You can always use PBdad to relume.
  7. That's what I call a Franken. Congrats! It's gonna be a keeper, I'm sure.
  8. I think you're right in filing a claim. I did not mean to exonerate him but simply to point out what some crooks will do and how they skirt the boundaries. Good luck.
  9. The item was correctly described. He never uses the term 100% genuine Rolex. He highlights what s on the bracelet. Sorry buddy. Does not look good.
  10. NIce... still looking for an affordable silver dial option.
  11. I know you did! And it was prettier than yesterday's speedbumps ;-)
  12. Well, he says he has a DSSD and a Sub and is interested in a SD maybe a DRSD. Either way, if I have an excuse to post some pics, I'll give it a go. I understood that he thought the SD would be a midsize between the DSSD and Sub. Either way, that 1675 you posted was not even close!!!!
  13. I will try to post a pic later when I get home. It's all about size... The DSSD is a huge tank. The Sub and standard Sea Dweller (in it's many variants) are the same size at 40mm but the SD sits a little higher which I actually enjoy as the crown does not scratch the end of my wrist as much as the Sub which sits lower. I recall a thread on TRF which showed the difference between the Sub and the Deep Sea. It's like David and Goliath!
  14. Must stop looking at this thread...
  15. Gee! I really appreciate the input from the pro's over here! That's why I love this community. Will post an update.
  16. Nope it's swiss. It wasn't like this before. A while back, it stopped working. I had Katt look at it and he discovered a broken screw in the movement that prevented it from working. He sent it back to me and it worked fine for a day or 2 until the rotor screw issue. That seems to be fixed but that thing is bouncing around in there even as I type, I can here back and forth. If my hand is motionless, i don't hear a sound. Thanks for your help!!! Much appreciated.
  17. Great review. Very informative. I am very impressed with the rep. 1/10th the price - you cannot beat that!
  18. I finally had the chance to locktite the screw in place a couple of days ago. Today, I opened it up and the screw is holding nicely however, when I wear the watch, the rotor seems to spinning with the movement of my wrist. If i shake my wrist back and forth, I hear the rotor swinging back and forth... ANy ideas>
  19. i will take a picture tonight. What I was trying to do was take the metal surround or cup from a modern Seadweller and use that to hold a vintage pearl for a 1665 vintage sea dweller. The hole on the 1665 insert seems too big when I compare to other inserts of 1665s I own. I think it was deliberately made that way or could be an insert from another watch. The metal surrounf of the 16600 fit in the hole but could not accommodate the pearl. The vintage pearl is shaped like a cone on the underside. I decided to stick the pearl directly in the hole of the insert without any metal surrounds. I had to place it just right or else it could have fallen through!
  20. Since we hijacked the Space Dweller thread with the the whole discussion about JMB's discovery of a replacement crystal for the SSD, I am wondering about a similar replacement for the Noob GMT? I have a BK Transformer which I absolutely love. As with the SSD, the LEC at 6 o'clock is much too visible and would love to get rid of it. This watch gets as much wrist time as my Sub. I've never enquired but would a gen crystal fit on this? If not, is there a similar "JMB option"? Thanks
  21. Nanuq, thanks, The pod in question did not have any holes in the back! I patiently scrubbed the old pearl out using nail polish remover, heat and a needle!. Once i was done, i realized that my new pearl did not fit in the pod so I just put it straight into the hole and glued it there. I think the hole is too big but it will do for now until i get a my new insert.
  22. Mine is not as wokky but the LEC drives me nuts! Just for that, its worth the swap.
  23. Bought a new vintage pearl. How do take out the other dot - just the dot? Thanks
