  1. I switched over to filtered water (including for showering) 30 years ago as the issues relating to impurities within municipal drinking water have been known for decades. That said, I doubt there is any danger over the short term. But, long term, consuming these 'impurities' for more than 20 years is likely to have all sorts of consequences & none of them good. But since our air is similarly fouled, 1 can only do so much.
  2. I only use the winders for my non-quick-set date watches & I do not use any of the large sleeves (remove them). My watches fit fine (7" wrist) with a bit of folded Kleenex between the clasp & pillow (which you cannot see)
  3. I have had 2 Acetimers for a couple of years & run my gens, frankens & reps without any problems. My sole complaint is that I have not found their (or most other winders') watch guide to be sufficient to keep some watches' mainsprings fully wound. Instead, give each auto-wind watch 40 manual turns, set the Acetimer to its lowest number of turns/day & test the watch for a week or 2. If the watch stops, set the Acetimer to its next highest turns/day setting & retest. Use the lowest setting that keeps the watch running properly. Again, YOU must experiment with your winder to find the most efficient setting for your watch.
  4. GC is semi-permanent, so it can be removed if needed & it will give you a bit more confidence, so I would probably do it. Just a couple of small dabs ought to do it.
  5. Wow. It looks even better than I expected. Now, after seeing it with the black insert, I think you ought to give serious thought to minimizing that GMT hand.
  6. The Rolex certification is extremely difficult, even for journeyman watchmakers, many of whom are not likely to make the grade. And I suspect that Alligoat's right about China being more than happy to step in to fill the void.
  7. Oops. Sorry, I forgot that all the aftermarket GMT hands are made to fit gen movements & I had to manufacture the hand for my Phase 1 6542. I would still install the black insert when it arrives.
  8. '42 2-day
  9. What, no obligatory watch collection pics?
  10. Rolex used left over parts from the 6542 on the initial runs of 1675s
  11. Frank - It looks great. Have you considered replacing the GMT hand with a 6542-style 'small' point hand & a Yuki 7206 rivet or gen 6251H Jubilee bracelet? Or, to ice the cake, consider switching the insert to black. In that form, I think it would be very difficult to ID the watch as a rep.
  12. In fact, I remember standing in my bedroom after returning from the local premier of 'A Hard Day's Night', holding the black & white promo pic of the group & yellow souvenir ticket (both of which I still have here somewhere), wondering if I would still remember these guys (the Beatles) when I was 40 (40, as a young teen, was about as far into the future as I could comprehend). As you probably recall, the prevailing wisdom was that the Beatles, like most pop acts back then, were a fad that would quickly fade & be replaced by the next fad.
  13. Mods - RWG was hanging which caused triplicate post. Please delete.

  15. It all depends on your particular case since there is a bit of case-to-case variation. In my experience, I would expect that it will NOT be a simple movement swap. In most cases, you will need to mod (grind/polish) the inside of the case to get the other movement to align/fit properly. But, again, whether or how much work would be required is impossible to say because of the variations in construction.
  16. Correct. As it turns out, there is nothing special about the 7750 movements inside asymmetrical cases. It is all about the pusher location in the case. The pusher does not press down onto a single point on the edge of the movement. Instead, it presses down on an L-shaped arm that has a relatively wide face, which allows the pusher to be placed slightly above or slightly below (which will place the pusher in the proper spot) the center. Once you see how the pusher operates, you have to wonder why 62xx Daytona reps have not always been made this way.
  17. The Beatles, whether real or faux, have been doing that for nearly 50 years
  18. It is possible, but it requires a good bit of reshaping inside the case. Unless you are looking for a project, I would order a 7750 caseset. If you plan to disable the auto-wind & remove the rotor to turn the movement into a faux manual-wind as explained here, then you should ask DW to include a V72 caseback with your case.
  19. Nearly. Read this SLRs generally do much better in low light/darkness than a point-&-shoot, which is all I had with me that night. But, in general, to compensate for the lack of light, you increase the camera's ISO (light sensitivity), which I set to 400 (as always, you should practice before taking The Picture so you can balance better light sensitivity vs grain (increased grain is a side-effect of increased ISO)) &/or use a flash. For 'The Beatles', I was too close to use a flash without blinding the group, so I just boosted the ISO & then processed as much of the grain out as I could in my image editor.
  20. Depending on what you mean by right? No, it does not look like it is supposed to, but, yes, it looks like (what is left of) a gen hand. My guess is that a watchmaker broke the tips off. Odd that Robert Maron did not mention this in the description.
  21. I am just a wet Nancy when it comes to resolutions, but I will try to reign in my urges to post pics of the albino in favor of the black gilt to keep the drool to a minimum
  22. Well, in that case, Mr. Sheen is excused. I would have done the same thing.
  23. Beautiful scene, LHOOQ. My favorite day (best I could do in the dark) Later, in better light
