  1. Nice work.
  2. Exactly. A broach is a small file in the shape of a pin with abrasive material along most of its length. There are different sizes for varying size holes. You hold the hand in a tool (or, carefully, by hand, which is the method I prefer to use) & ream the hole out with the broach. Very useful tool, broaches. Broach set on Ofrei (the Bergeon 2676-B Hand Broaching Holder is listed further down the page)
  3. Last year, 1 or 2 members did just that (install gen 116520 dial into 1 of Josh's Daytona reps). Were it not for the fact that the rep dial is so accurate, I would have done the same thing. But you would end up spending alot of cash for little in return. You might search out By-Tor's excellent review of the 116520 for more or my You can build a nearly perfect Daytona (or something like that) mini-tutorial (note that some of the links listed in the article may have changed, so you may need to do a bit of additional research to locate their current locations).
  4. Or the iodine application, heat distribution, lume thickness/composition, yada yada yada............
  5. I got 1 from Borel or Ofrei, I forget which? But very useful for broaching.
  6. No, that is actually the way they came out of the oven. And I am still wearing the Sub this morning (Sunday)
  7. Take a number or search out the original 'powdered graphite' thread.
  8. Switched over to my Sub Saturday evening
  9. For reference, both of my original secs @ 6 Daytonas (nearly 5 & 4 years old now) are still running fine. Though neither sees alot of wrist time.
  10. You can say that again.
  11. I guess you could do that, too. But I was referring mostly to the surface texture of the bezel, which does not look gen. After sanding/re-polishing, it ought to look about right. Yes, I wish they would fix those springbar holders already.
  12. Yes. As long as both watches were powered by an Asian 7750, the hands are interchangeable since the movements are the same.
  13. GMT today (Saturday)
  14. Beautiful, Lani. The Yuki bracelet makes it pop. 1 thing you might consider - I think the bezel needs to be sanded & then polished to make it look vintage/restored. As it is, that is the only part that catches my mind's eye (in a bad way) when I look at your watch. But this is a very minor quibble on an otherwise nearly faultless work of art.
  15. My MBW-based 5514 has a gen 5513 bezel/insert, so you can use this for comparison Rolex used the same bezel/case for the 5512, 5513 & 1680 models. Similarly, as far as I know, MBW did likewise (except that all were etched as '5513' between their lugs).
  16. Right & if you find a gen case for sale, check the temperature in hell, because it is likely about to freeze over. Gen Daytona cases rarely come up for sale &, when they do, they sell for far more than the total cost of a V72-powered DW franken. Best to use a DW case, which is dimensionally the same as the gen. Ask DW if engraved (as opposed to laser etched) lug numbering is available. Beyond that, there are dozens of reviews, tutorials & journals detailing the assembly of members' DW Daytonas that you can (& should) search out on RWG before beginning your own project. This will save you (& us) alot of (duplicated) effort.
  17. Ending the work week wearing the Prodigal Son
  18. The watch used as the initial test bed for the powdered graphite treatment was returned to me tonight. Oddly, not due to any mechanical problems, but, instead, because its owner simply tired of it. Not only is this infamously unreliable Asian Rube Goldberg chronograph still keeping good time 2 years hence, but, more importantly, its previously wandering hour totalizer seems to have corrected itself. Or, at least, it has not wandered from its (12 o'clock) null mark in the 5-6 hours the watch has been residing on my wrist So, it seems that what I initially thought might be a very temporary band-aid for ailing secs @ 6 Daytonas has turned out to be a practical & long-term remedy.
  19. A good, clear pic of the crown/stem would help, but it sounds like either the crown has unscrewed from the stem or the stem has broken/dislodged itself from the movement. In either case, you will probably need to remove the movement from the case & inspect to locate the problem.
  20. The problem with straps is that they leave the laser etchings between the lugs visible (gen cases were engraved, not etched), which are a dead give-away for an alert WIS. All of my 62xx Daytonas are fitted with gen 7835/357 folded link bracelets.
  21. Thanks for the heads-up. Since nothing will be moving in/out of China during the holiday, I wonder if it might be a good time to attempt another GTG?
  22. It sounds like there is dust/debris within the movement (or along the inner sides of the case) that is getting shaken loose & finding its way to the crystal during usage. It might be time for a complete overhaul of the movement, after which you should not expect to find anything clinging to dial or underside of the crystal.
  23. I have never seen any, but I would be surprised if none of the books on watches have not been converted to pdf format. You might search google.
