  1. Looks to be of 1930s-1940s vintage, but, beyond that, it could be just about anything.
  2. Ended up wearing a Sub today
  3. Not solar powered?
  4. timezone or ebay (gen)
  5. Andy makes a good point that has been covered numerous times in other threads, but I think it merits further comment here. No amount of hand washing will remove most of the gunk inside a bracelet. Only a thorough cleaning in an ultrasonic will do that. There are so many cheap (under $50) ultrasonic cleaners on ebay that there is no excuse for not having 1. Just be sure to remove the bracelet from the watch head before cleaning (or use the watch stand that comes with some ultrasonics that is made for holding the watch head out of the cleaning solution in the tank). If you do not want to spend the money on a proper ultrasonic cleaning solution, you can make your own - 2 cups of warm (not hot) water, a few drops of your favorite dish detergent (not dish washing machine soap) & 1 teaspoon of ammonia (available from any grocery or hardware store). If you place the detergent & ammonia into the ultrasonic tank 1st, it will get mixed when you add the water.
  6. The non-resetting chrono is likely due to the chrono hand being loose on its tube (a common problem on Daytona reps). Have your watchmaker remove the hand & check to see if it spins freely on its tube. If so, he can either crimp it with a staking set or apply a tiny dab of epoxy at the underside joint between the tube & hand (Original pic courtesy Avitt) While at it, I would have him check all the other hands as this is a common problem. Hard to say if your crystal is gen or not based on your pics. If you place the 'gen' crystal next to your original crystal & snap a good, clear macro pic, we might be able to tell. Generally, DW's bezels are slightly too small to fit over a gen crystal since they are made to fit the lighter gage (thinner material) aftermarket crystal that his watches come with. Most here simply remove a small amount of metal around the inner circumference of the bezel & then test fit. If still too tight, remove a tiny bit more & retest. Repeat until the bezel is a snug fit over the gen crystal. It is hard to explain the correct fit, but I usually say it should be tight enough so that you cannot install or remove the bezel by hand, but not so tight that you have to exert alot of pressure when using a crystal/caseback press. Just use common sense. As far as your new dial, the lack of 'DAYTONA' is actually a good thing. I have a 6239, which also lacks this & that is what makes it so special However, the lack of 'SWISS' at the bottom is a bad thing since all of the gens have it.
  7. Where does the battery go?
  8. Back to my beater Wednesday night & I will probably wear it tomorrow (Thursday)
  9. On the other hand, knowing how effective Microsoft is, I doubt they will be able to find a copy.
  10. Listening to Janet Jackson's 'Runaway' (beautiful song even if you do not like Jackson) & wearing my Daytona beater, which, somehow, seems fitting Life is good.
  11. It is much worse for those who perform the restorations, which can take months or years. No amount of money can mend the emotional pain that must be plaguing the restorers/owners of some of those cars. I spent a number of years in the classic car restoration business (yes, alot of those skills translate over to watches)&, while I never suffered anything as bad as that, I have a good idea what they must be going through. And no amount of money (as if a lawyer will actually leave the owner with anything meaningful) will put that right.
  12. In general, I like the look of your fully-ARd crystal. However, you should be aware that it may draw attention (the wrong kind) to your watch. While it may be pleasant to look at, you are effectively shooting yourself in the foot, as far as accuracy goes, because it makes the dial too visible, which, more importantly, highlights the (inaccurate) laser etching (instead of engraving) of the ROLEXROLEXROLEX on the inner flange (rehaut). Maybe I am more sensitive than others, but that is 1 of the 1st things I notice when looking at a ceramic GMT.
  13. Not sure why, but I am wearing this again today (no, I am not starting to like yellow gold/tt.......probably just sun spots or an impacted colon clouding my judgment)
  14. Mods: delete this please
  15. The ceramic GMT, like the new series of ceramic bezeled Subs, has been 'supersized' vs the non-ceramic models.
  16. Are you comparing a non-ceramic GMTII with a ceramic GMTII?
  17. Nice, but nothing new or improved as far as I can see. Better pics, as Nanuq requested, would of course help.
  18. My ultimate goal is a watch that appears, more or less, to have been recently overhauled. That is, sporting a clear crystal & working crown, but the rest of the watch should look used (not abused). Works for me
  19. The project seems to have taken forever, but I am glad you finally finished your watch, Lani.
  20. As long as the hands are unpainted, denatured alcohol & a lint free cloth will work. But be careful around lume, which it can remove. (A clean piece of) Rodico is best.
  21. Been lounging around the house wearing this But I will probably move up to something a bit more upscale when I leave for dinner
