  1. I am assuming the request is limited to reps/frankens & not gens. In that context, I could cite any number of senior members' collections worthy of special merit, but, ultimately, I would love to see some new pics of Avitt's or Eunomians' collection favs. My favs tend to change depending on my mood & wearing habits, but, today, these are probably my favs
  2. Pretty watch.
  3. I doubt the seller knows what you are talking about. Most rep sellers are not watch fanatics, so 'slow beat' is meaningless to them. You might get a better answer if you ask whether the movement beats at 18kbph or 28kbph? They might be able to answer that.
  4. Ubi is exactly right (as usual). After more than a quarter century wearing rep watches, although I am occasionally complimented, no one has ever asked to inspect the watch I am wearing. And if someone were to ask for a closer look, even a gen owner would be insane to allow a stranger (or even a friend) to remove a bracelet or open a caseback out in the real world. Note to anyone wearing a strap with a Rolex rep - the serial/model numbers between the lugs on gen Rolex watches are always engraved. Meanwhile, the numbers on most rep cases are laser etched & the difference between engraving & laser etching is immediately obvious to anyone familiar with Rolex watches.
  5. Love the case (especially the bezel insert), but, the dial, not so much. On 2nd look, I wonder if the inner flange (rehaut) may be too deep?
  6. A light sanding should lighten it.
  7. Bond Sub today
  8. The double red is not bad (I have seen better), but his Daytona & Bond Sub dials are just plain nasty.
  9. By-Tor is absolutely correct. This is a current pic of the oldest rep I have (circa 1987) that is still in my possession Here is a bit of background info on this particular watch.
  10. Way to go, Ubi. After the gen dial comes the gen crystal & a legend is born.
  11. DW has them all (though this 1 has gen pushers, etc)
  12. Alot of the answers are dependent on your personal taste, however, you should order the 7750 case plus a V72 caseback (you can ask DW if you can just swap casebacks, but, most likely you will need to pay extra for the extra caseback (ask DW for current pricing)). Since DW cases are made to nearly exact Daytona 62xx dimensions, they will accept gen parts. I use gen bracelets, crowns/tubes & crystals on mine. DW's dials, while far from perfect, tend to be the most accurate among aftermarket dials. If you prefer to go aftermarket for other parts, someone else will need to provide recommendations. If you are doing your own mods, I would recommend that you use the Search tool & spend a good deal of time reading other members' experiences constructing these watches, as they can, depending on your luck of the (case) draw, be very difficult projects to complete. If you lack the tools/skills, I would seek out a reliable watchmaker who is willing to do the work for you (Ziggy comes immediately to mind). Good luck.
  13. I would not (& do not) worry about the serial number since it is normally hidden from view, only serious WIS types would know how to decipher it & only you &/or your watchmaker will ever see it anyway. Unless, of course, you are trying to sell a rep as a gen, which is definitely not recommended.
  14. The watch is a franken. Everything, with the exception of the movement, is new/aftermarket. It never ceases to amaze me how many people post pics of reps/frankens on gen forums thinking no one will notice.
  15. Starting the week off wearing the same Sub (but modeled by a friend with much nicer wrists)
  16. Ending the month with Mystery
  17. Looks great, Hike. 1 thing to be aware of with straps is that they expose the (incorrectly) laser etched (as opposed to engraved) numbering between lugs, which a bracelet keeps hidden from view.
  18. Nice write up, Aero, but the Bond strap issue was discussed a couple of years ago here &, then, again, a few months later, here, & then, a year later, here.
  19. Great work. In addition to Justasgood's comment about the beveling, I wonder if the thickness (height) is the same? I assume you calp'd that dimension, so maybe it is just the way it appears in the pics?
  20. Wearing the Sub today
  21. Aside from vintage vs modern, there have been numerous versions of the Daytona model since its release in the early 60s. Since you did not indicate a specific model, I would recommend that you do some further research (timezone.com or your local Rolex dealer are good places to start) of gens & then repost your question in a more specific form. In the meantime, read this (you may need to research the locations of some of the sites listed in the article as their web address may have changed).
  22. Yes, there are 2 versions of the gen T21 - the original, which looks (from the side) like a short superdome T39 (tall, with rounded edges) & the later/current version, which has the beveled edge. Neither of the crystals in your 1st comparison pic look like gen T21s to me.
  23. I went gen with my 5514 & I think its clarity/sparkle is worth the extra cost over the aftermarkets (yes, even Clarks)
  24. Looks to be of 1930s-1940s vintage, but, beyond that, it could be just about anything.
