  1. Yes, a number of times since about 1963, but you will need to search out the particular case laws that resulted. I am only guessing here, but I would imagine that when we start seeing Canal Street quality Ferraris, 60" Panasonic plasma TVs & Dom Pérignon flooding every street corner & rep website for 1/20th the cost of the gens, & the gen makers bring enough law suits againsts the makers/sellers, the same laws (that currently cover Rolex watches) will be expanded to cover other items as well.
  2. Hey, Zig, how was your summer? Did you & Ms. Z have enough time to see all the sites?
  3. As with all Rolex rumors, especially those that come 2nd-hand, I would take this with a huge grain of salt & keep your money in the bank until/unless you hear something official. Stainless steel (on a modern watch) rusting?
  4. True, he probably is. But I was scoping out the car & watch, not the model wearing them.
  5. You may be right. A year or 2 ago, I posted a tutorial on creating a working He valve in an MBW case (required drilling holes through the side of the case), which may be helpful if you can locate it via the search. I think it was for my 5514 Comex Sub, so you might try searching some of those terms in the Rolex forum.
  6. Luxist (& Lange) has lost their collective mind. Well, almost. In another section of Luxist, they regained their faculties by combining an XK with a GMT Now, that is real Lux. Of course, an old DJ in a Merc can make 1 forget (even without the Via dei Mille Prosecco)
  7. If I am not mistaken, 1 or more of the pinned items in the Watch Repair & Modifications forum contains instructions.
  8. I think we are talking apples & oranges. Modifying your own watch or car for your own pleasure is up to you. In these cases, value is in the eye of the beholder or collector (assuming you plan to resell your modified item at some time in the future). Some collectibles increase in value when a modification improves performance or corrects an OEM mistake or shortcoming, while others lose value when modified. Doxas & many Chevys/Fords appear to fall into the former category (increasing value to collectors when modifications improve upon the original design), while Rolexes & Jaguars/Mercedes clearly fall into the latter (modifications reduce value). Rolex cannot stop owners from modifying their watch in any way (& with whatever non-Rolex parts) they wish. However, Rolex is legally able to refuse ('at their discretion') to honor their warranty in the case of a watch that has been modified (this includes dial swaps with another gen Rolex dial if the replacement dial was not designed for that watch model). Rolex USA routinely refuses to service watches that have been fitted with gem-encrusted bezels (even in the case of a gen bezel fitted with gemstones by a non-Rolex agent) or non-Rolex crystals (they usually just replace springbars with gens during service, which the customer is charged for).
  9. Not watches, Rolex watches. Rolex Watch USA is unique in that a number of US trademark laws have been written specifically for or with them in mind. Love them or hate them, Rolex sells far more high end watches in the US than any other luxury watch brand & many of these end up on the wrists of America's legislators. Of course, I am not suggesting any type of connection.
  10. Modern is not really my thing, but I believe they still have lug holes.
  11. According to Rolex (& the US federal law), any watch fitted with a single non-Rolex part is a 'fake' & infringes on their trademark. So, while 1 may be more difficult to spot than the other, in the eyes of an AD, a franken is a rep & a rep is a franken. Period. The only possible exception may be a true (gen) Frankenstein watch - A 100% gen Rolex watch that was cobbled together from 100% Rolex parts, but that did not leave the Rolex factory together (in the same watch).
  12. Ditto Tribal. I have never seen an aftermarket/rep tube that has the correct splines for the Rolex tube tool, so it has got to be the crown.
  13. Weird, Zig. I have done lugs on more than 2 dozen cases with a total of 3 drill bits, a hand drill & 3-in-1 oil. No broken bits or ovaled holes. Maybe you are wearing the wrong shoes?
  14. Ending the work week with a jubilant Rose
  15. Does the Misses like shoes? If so, then you may have a problem. Anyway, congrads to the happy couple (& stop eating arachnids).
  16. If you are careful, you can drill lug holes with a hand drill, by hand (that is how I do it). And I have done a couple of cases without removing the movement or crystal, but I would not recommend doing that for an important watch since you increase the likelihood of damage. I would still recommend that you read the pinned guides in the Watch Repair forum.
  17. These may help
  18. This is a 24-700 Triplock The crown in the pic you posted above is definitely not a 700.
  19. Let me clarify - I did not mean to repaint just the subdials (I know they cannot do that). I meant ask them to repaint the entire dial, but with the proper subdial fonts.
  20. The only things I can think of that would cause the crown to fit over the tube without the threads interlocking is either the threads have been completely worn down to smooth metal (which would be obvious), you have the wrong tube (maybe a Twinlock or other smaller diameter tube) or your tube is aftermarket (wrong size). Can you see the teeth around the inside circumference of the crown end of the tube (where the Rolex tube tool fits) Some pics of your tube (the 1 in your watch ) would help.
  21. Oops. Justasgood is correct. I got it backward. Maybe you have a non-gen tube?
  22. It looks like you have the older 702 version of the Triplock, which requires a different (somewhat rarer) 24-7020 tube (Newer/current 703 at left, older 702 at right)
  23. Ditto & the s-h-i-t is so high it is getting into my boots & soiling my argyle socks. Some of you may find this amusing (Note that the court ordered no seizure even in the case of a fake Rolex being sold as gen )
