That watch has had more owners than Chrysler. Still, a nice piece. I hope you plan to keep it for awhile.

Most likely, you will soon receive a note explaining that they tried to order the part, but the request came back as 'discontinued'. Try pam

Me likie. 3 questions - Can you make a 'roulette' version of this DW (even numbers in red)? (Look at DW at bottom of pic) Will they fit an ETA 2846? When can I order 1? -
Ditto. Took the words right out of my mouth.

To keep my screwdrivers in shape, I use the stuff in the pic I posted.

Yes, I remember that dial now. This all makes sense. Parts of it look very good (the top 3 lines & T SWISS T), but the subdial numbers are wrong. You might send them the pic of the black dial I posted above, noting the 4 in particular & see if they can re-do the subdials (or repaint the entire dial with the correct subdial fonts). They did a couple of (non-Rolex) dials for me & they came back looking almost perfect. And I know they have alot of the original Rolex dial stamps, so it is probably worth asking.

Sorry, no. I have never had a reason to measure hand lengths. Why?

You might want to post this as an official announcement (by itself) in the Rolex forum since virtually every vintage Rolex rep owner will want to swap their round 3 DW for a flat 1. -
Feeling a bit introverted today, so I am wearing this old POS

Ditto. Let me know if you find any 585s. If you do & if they are good copies (no obvious flaws), you will probably need alot of them (enough for the remaining 25% of RWG members ). Thanks.

Euro brings up a good point that buyers should understand & (all) sellers should be honest about - Unless your rep has been pressure tested within the past 12 months by a professional watchmaker with the appropriate equipment, you should not assume your watch is waterproof. If you swim/bath/shower with an untested watch & it has not leaked, consider yourself lucky - you are living on borrowed time. And every watchmaker will tell you the same thing. -
Bravo, JoJo. A wonderful clan & not small at all. 36mm is the sweet spot for a classic gentleman's watch & anything over 40mm is, to my eye, just showy overkill.

I have always understood that the primary reason not to wear reps into an AD to is keep the AD & gen makers (not to mention the general public) from knowing how accurate the better reps are. The less they know about quality reps, the better able we are to wear them without worrying about being called out or having our sources called in (to a lawyer's office). To paraphrase Mao (or was it Confucius) - If you want to play near bees, it is best to play in the dark.

No, they are pics of gen 585s. I have seen rep 585s that the same (same dimensions also, so they ought to fit my MBW 1665) & was wondering if you might have them or be able to source them.

With all due respect, Lani, I think you are wrong about that. In the case of counterfeit money, there are federal laws (at least in the US/UK) requiring banks to confiscate counterfeit money & report it to the Secret Service (I used to be in banking & I doubt the laws governing counterfeit money have changed much since then). In the case of reps, there are no such federal laws. In most states, the possession of rep watches, handbags, shoes, etc, is considered a misdemeanor & rarely prosecuted except in the most egregious cases (like where the possessor appears to be in the business of distributing/selling). (I have heard that rep possession is treated (by law enforcement) as being similar to driving while wearing headphones or a telephone headset - both technically illegal, but rarely prosecuted. Unless, of course, you kill someone with your car or use it to rob a bank or while engaged in some other felonious activity, in which case the headphone rap gets added to the list of criminal complaints that gets brought against you. ) So any AD that confiscates your rep can be prosecuted for theft, which is why stories of same should be taken with a huge grain of salt (& a nice bedtime story). A relevant aside (the following info comes 1st-hand from a close friend whose family used to own a large chain of ADs) - ADs used to receive 'Bulletins' from Rolex instructing them on how to identify fake Rolexes (this was 25 years ago & I do not know if they still do). However, the guides were purely informational (telling ADs how to deal with customers attempting to trade-in or sell a fake Rolex to the AD) & included no directives instructing the AD to confiscate anything. But, to be clear, attempting to sell or trade a fake as a gen IS a prosecutable crime. So, if someone actually did have a rep confiscated by an AD or other retailer, that was probably the reason.

Any 585s that look like this

Pics would have been useful, but great post, OS.

Unless you are attempting to defraud them out of goods or money with it, an AD cannot confiscate/take/steal your rep/franken just because you wear it into their store. In the rare case that an employee identifies it as non-gen, they may ask you to leave or give you a (well deserved) dirty look, but that is all they can do.

Because rep watches are contraband (illegal) & they are not manufactured in clean rooms with quality control inspectors overseeing things. In many cases, rep watches are assembled in someone's home, often over their lunch & with as little attention to detail as they can get away with. If you want your rep to be waterproof, take it to a rep-friendly watchmaker & have him replace the seals & crystal & have him water pressure test it to 3 atmospheres. Having passed, you should be good for about a year, after which you should get the watch re-tested on (at least) a yearly basis if you plan to swim with your rep (same goes for gens that you plan to swim with).
