And on the vintage Land Rover forum, people are applauded for stuffing new engines from other makers in, fitting disc brakes, axles from someone else, new wiring looms, even replacement chassis and body panels.
That's the equivalent of a Yuki case, ETA movement, NDT dial and hands, and keeping the original crown.
Thanks mate. I was helping my son shovel two dump truck loads of dirt yesterday so I missed the Express Delivery man... But the final parts are in town. Now I need to find a modder to do the install. My go-to guy has been radio silent for months.
Cc33, I really like how that case and bezel are coming along, Looks like you've been wearing it a LOT. And that shot from the front... this the perfect example of a Big Crown. Spectacular!
Thanks gents, you should see it in the Spring when the ice breaks up and the tide starts to move it out. Sitting on that same spot, there are blocks of sea ice the size of houses churning around banging into each other and hitting the rocks. THAT is impressive.
See what you're missing? Get your butt up here for some fresh bear steaks!
The tidal current was flowing by out there past the other rock about 15mph, and behind me up on the mountain were 6 Dall sheep. Too bad the app couldn't zoom in on them!
You are exactly right, I chose a vintage Rolex for my son "some day" and he isn't interested in it, he prefers a mod Seiko I gave him.
I guess we maintain these for our own enjoyment, and that's as much as we can expect from them? I hope to get 5 more decades from mine and then... I won't care anymore.
That all makes sense, but remember the older a movement gets the harder it will be to find parts. And even though it seems to be working fine, there is still damage occurring.
Here is my 1030 movement when I had Ziggy service it. The watch ran "okay" but it had not been serviced in decades. Serious wear had happened and he prolonged its life but he could not make it work perfect. So now it runs better and it will last longer, but the damage has been done.
I was out on Beluga Point today watching the tide go out, a marvelous bluebird day. Here's a panorama I did, enjoy! http://photosynth.net/view/2b295b99-64ae-439e-8f5c-7aad9f5cd4e9
Sure thing, she's Mary at watchinternational@gmail.com, last several I bought from her were spectacular. I have one on my Frosty Flake and one on my gen 1675.
