Ahhhhhhhh, there's my 5510, I see you're taking good care of it before it ultimately winds up on my wrist.
  7. Another point that I haven't seen yet... Many own nice vintage gens and some of those are getting hard to find parts for. Dangling participles notwithstanding. Personally I want to wear those vintage gens swimming, but I know that's just foolish. So a good quality rep gives almost the same wearing satisfaction, and if I swim with it, and it floods, it's no real loss.
  8. Yes it's got lots of uses. A mild "whitening" toothpaste works too, it has some fine abrasive in it. Have you tried it on your headlight lenses yet?
  9. Well said. If you stick with SUB 300 "no-T" models you're pretty safe, IMO.
  10. K, I was wondering where you got all your hand sets. They're almost perfect! Thanks for the pointer.
  11. Boy what a story! Congratulations getting the old girl back again. You know by now it's in need of a good service, right? I recommend a trip to the spa up north for a lube and relume of the hands. He does good work.
  12. Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice. Let's see some photos!! </hijack>
  13. If you were.......... you wouldn't know it. Hello panerai153, pleased to meet you! Tell me, do I come here often?
  14. Something doesn't add up here. If the bezel is snug going on, then loose, do you mean it's loose on its retaining ring? Or is the retaining ring snug going on, then loose? If the bezel is a loose fit on the ring, just add some bumps to your spring washer to eliminate the gap. If the ring is loose over the crystal, see if the watchmaker can compress/size down the ring to a smaller inside diameter, then polish the sidewalls of the T39 crystal to square it up until the ring is a snug press fit all the way to seated.
  15. How about rep parts? In some cases, genuine replacement parts are becoming impossible to find, so people produce copies. So as a matter of principle, when the gen bezel pops off your 6536 again, do you: wear it without the bezel and hate the look, or put it in a drawer and grit your teeth, or buy a good aftermarket bezel and continue enjoying the watch? You can see where my argument is going next.
  16. No problem. They're the closest I've seen to gen. If only the minutes hand was sliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiightly narrower.
  17. How "classic" are we talking here? If it's a 1665, that's the wrong pearl/insert.
  18. Wow that's a beauty. Nice work. When you're ready to take it one step higher, these will do it: http://www.ebay.com/itm/SNOW-FLAKE-AGED-WATCH-HAND-FOR-TUDOR-9401-7016-SILVER-7A-/170700711490
  19. Someone here once said "a Submariner is the world's finest $500 watch". That's exactly right, in my book.
