  1. Mine were waterproof again after using the "heel press" to reinstall the crystals.
  2. YEAH BABY!! ......or just use your heel and stand on it.
  3. Thanks gents! You can tell summer is coming back some day, in deep winter all the pictures are completely in shades of blue. This one has some reds in it! Break out the suntan lotion!
  4. I went for a nice climb on Portage Glacier today (yes, it was colder than hell) and couldn't help myself... this picture was just begging to be snapped. A Snowflake on snowflakes!
  5. Sure you can do it. I've done Seikos before and it's tough to get the new crystal in flat and square but it can be done. Enjoy the process!
  6. Here's a Seiko OM that was bead blasted. It gave it a "titanium" look.
  7. Think about keeping the 700 in case you want to build an early 5512/5513/1680. It's rare as hen's teeth.
  8. Freddy333 did a review of this. He showed how to replace the "guts" of a crown with the "guts" of another. This is the part where the stem screws in, and it slides in and out with a tiny spring inside.
  9. Are you ignoring CrazySaleMan's business model? FAX is your friend.
  10. This would be a perfect match for one of CrazySaleMan's NBDRTRLWWW models.
  11. Boy I dunno ... the corners look a little rounded off on that one. And is that the cow's hoof glue model, or the horse's hoof? Was cow hoof glue correct for that period of cardboard?
  12. I like the looks of the 702 crown best, but a 702 or 703 would be correct. My 1971 SD has a 702. Soooooooo are you gonna sell off that nasty old 700 crown and tube now? Horrible, repulsive thing, it is...... .........and I have just the watch to mount it on!!
  13. This was the best feeling in the world, when my son made Eagle Scout and I had the honor of awarding it.
  14. A 93150 is nice but to my eye it only looks appropriate on a big chunky Sea Dweller. The 5513 is much thinner so I wear mine on a thinner bracelet. Some people like Yuki's 7206 or 7836. For the money they are very nice. There are a couple things about them that drive me nuts so I don't use them. IIRC there's a gen 9315 folded oyster bracelet for sale here on the forum for $400. I think Dizzy had it. That would look killer on a 5513. Some people prefer the rivets look but to my eye a newer Sub (with crown guards) demands a folded oyster.
  15. It could be that a little grease is all it takes. Consider the pressures between that ring and a clean piece of plexiglass; the stiction (static friction) is probably what kept your watchmaker from getting it to go. Once in motion however, the ring ought to keep sliding until it's in place. It's like seals on a shock absorber: they prevent the shock from being reactive to small bumps, simply because they're so stuck to the damper rods. Hit the rods with a shot of WD-40 and your shocks are magically smoother. So replicate that by adding some slippery stuff to your crystal, and the ring should slide into place without a lot of drama. Have your watchmaker go for the gusto and cram that thing on in one stroke. Don't let her be a wuss and stop halfway down. I bet it will surprise both of you.
  16. If you're going to sand the "wall" of the plexi, remember to finish it with a high gloss polish. Much of the beauty of a gen crystal comes from the clear sides and the internal reflections. If it was MY decision, I'd sand the inside of the retaining ring. Once you go with a gen crystal you'll never be satisfied with anything else.
  17. I'm out too... go get that thing, USMC!
  18. Apply silicon grease at the bottom outside edge of the crystal, after pushing it onto the case. Put some more on the inside face of the ring, and heat the ring too hot to touch. Then press that bad boy on there. I can push mine onto my 1665 with my bare hands and two hockey pucks using this method. Warning: if it's too tight, it will crack and/or stress fracture the crystal.
  19. Good Lord, what kind of batteries does this thing use?!
  20. Well this answers the question that has been bothering us for awhile... "Does the post counter go to 5 digits??" Well done!!
