  1. Here's my old timer, before going under the knife this afternoon.

Here in Alaska you don't need a permit the carry, even concealed. It's actually very refreshing to see someone walking the aisles in the store with a .44 Redhawk on his hip.
  3. I wonder if we could persuade Bergies to carry these? He'd make a fortune.
  4. It seems the dimensions of the "tube" leading from the diaphragm into your ear canal can cause harsh, penetrating upper midrange tones. On most inexpensive earbuds it's a simple tube ~2mm in diameter and 4mm long. Most earbuds I've seen with the same basic design have the same harsh upper midrange. You can imagine the acoustic properties of a rigid tube that size. I tried modding some buds: I started with some cheap Skullcandy buds ($19.95) and they've got massive bass but the penetrating, shrill upper mids drove me crazy. So I cut out tiny plugs of foam and pressed them into the tubes. I found that different foams give different sonic characteristics. Lightweight foam blocks almost no upper mid tone, but dense heavy foam blocks quite a bit. Make sure you're using open-cell foam. In the end I went with some moderately dense foam used to pack camera gear, and the cheapo Skullcandy buds sound pretty darn good.
  5. Do lots of reading here to learn what to look for, then you're much safer on EBay. I picked up a nearly new folded oyster 9315 for $400 a year ago.
  6. It's hard to tell but that looks like a gen "service replacement" tropic 39 crystal. It's a little flatter than the "superdome" t39. The sidewalls look tall because the SD is wearing a thin Submariner bezel. The Sea Dweller piece is much thicker. Here's mine with the (gen) service replacement t39 and (gen) thicker bezel.
  7. Magnificent! One of my all-time favorites.
  8. Some vintage pieces have their insert go slate grey from sun exposure, and others don't fade. I have a gen insert from 1971 that spent tons of time in the sun and it's completely unfaded.
  9. Roger that. Remember Oliver's 1665 COMEX? He offered it for sale for over a year before someone finally grabbed it. Another lovely piece of work.
  10. Boy is that nice! Thanks for sharing the story behind the build.
  11. Huh? What makes you think that?
  12. Nice! I used to worry about my 1958 Sub and wouldn't sleep with it under my pillow. Now? Not so much.
  13. I tried lots of models and wound up buying the Klipsch Image X10. They take quite awhile to break in and "open up" but when they do ... WOW.
  14. Wow it even has the Doxa signed crown?! That's SO rare in a no-T 300. What a catch!! I'm sorry to say I don't have any spare links. I do have a couple more NOS beads bracelets for the beasties and I'll trickle them out onto EBay some day; now that my Doxa collection is complete I don't need the spares. Get 'er pressure tested and USE her! My Black Lung has been diving a lot now but never over 60' and that's good enough for me.
  15. Posting from Tapatalk app on my iPhone... here's a photo from last night:
  16. Magnificent! Great catch, and from all appearances, complete and intact. Wow!!!
  17. Very nice! The dome is definitely too high, that's a T39 on there, made for your 1665. Just think how nice a gen bezel would look ......
  18. Oh, and if that makes you sick, you use Medicine Fish to get healthy again. Easy to make: leave a split salmon lying around until it grows green mold. Very important, it must be GREEN mold. Then you eat it. The mold is very similar to penicillin!
  19. Incredibly generous people. They will literally give you the shirt off their back. Much of their diet is whale or subsistence food, meaning they can easily live off the land. But some of the stuff would turn Chuck Norris green. Stuff like stinkfish or giviak. Look 'em up if you dare. This past week during Rondy the tribal elders were all in town and I was fortunate enough to spend some time with them. Simeon Patkotak is a GOD as far as these people are concerned, and he was so kind and happy. Just all smiles from ear to ear.
  20. Yes, the Diomede islands have Inupiaq and Yup'iq living there. These are incredibly tough people, and somehow thrive in those conditions.
  21. Nope, from my altitude I can see about 250 miles, a little past Mt. McKinley but that's looking north. I'd need to look west, but then there's another mountain range in the way. Palin's actual quote is "And you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska." Here's a photo of Little Diomede and Big Diomede islands. The international date line runs between them, you're looking at "tomorrow" in Russia over there, about 2 1/2 miles away.
