  1. What do we have here guys, a silly troll!! If you paid $987, I hope you forgot the decimal, and it was really $ 9.87 ?? Did you open the caseback to check which battery it uses?
  2. If you folks remember a couple of months back, Legend offered a mod package for AP ROO's that brought them up several notches on the "Believability scale" The mods addressed two problems that separated the stock ROO with the A7750 movement from the genuine or the Franken ROO's with gen dials, the position of the DW relative to the Tachy and the size of the ring on the hour hand. Later he came up with a couple of other goodies, one being the Cyclops mod to make the Cyclops more "gen like" and a better DW. Another mod that Legend recommended was the replacement of the a7750 mainspring with a stronger ETA 7750 mainspring. considering that both of the watches I sent him needed a service, I opted to have the mainsprings changed as well. As everyone knows already, Legend is a Prince of a fellow, one of the nicest folks around, and a joy to work with. I got the watches back yesterday, and frankly, I was very pleased with the results. the hand mod is very noticeable, as the stock hour hands on the a7750 is quite a bit larger in diameter than the genuine hands. The two watches I sent were a White Dial Rubberclad and a Safari. both watches got all the mods, except the Safari tachy ring was not shaved. Here are some photos I took of the two after putting the straps back on. The White Dial Rubberclad had a previous trip to Vac who relumed the hands, it glows like a torch!! The Safari of course has no lume. The RC is on a Black Gator from SMP lover, the Safari is on a gen AP Safari hornback. Both of these are the newer straps that take the 20mm tang buckle, which I find much more comfortable than the 18mm deployant straps/clasp.
  3. I have to agree with cc33 about having one or more modern watches in your rotation. Most of my vintage Rolex watches are not as waterproof as they were when new. I wouldn't trust my older 16750 except for washing hands, running through a rain shower, etc. You never know when those old plastic crystals will develop a stress crack or a dried up seal will let water in, just not worth the risk. My MBW base 1665 passed a 6 atmos water test on 2 different occasions, a couple of summers ago, I was wearing it and inadvertently hit it with a blast of water from a garden hose. I noticed moisture on the inside of the crystal almost immediately. Took it inside took of the back and let it dry out overnight . Put the back on, sent it to Matt. Matt discovered that the crystal had a bad crack right at the base, probably from me banging it against something. Long story short, none of my old watches gen or rep get any serious water exposure. I have a bunch of mid range gens that fill the bill nicely for beach, water sports, even scuba or snorkeling. So It's always handy to have watches that you can really trust for adverse conditions. I also completely agree that buying new is a bad idea. Rolex makes thousands of every common model. There is as you know a very active secondary market and the prices are a lot better than new from and AD. just like buying a car, boat, airplane, etc. Let those folks who have enough money to afford a new whatever take that big depreciation hit when they sell down the line. I have no qualms about buying a gently used modern Rolex from a trusted seller on the sales forums. One or two years old with all the papers, boxes, etc. would definitely be the way I would go. And like what was said, if you keep it for 2,3 or 5 years and sell it on, you will get most if not all of your money back.
  4. Happy Birthday !!! Wearing my recently modded AP Rubberclad Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I think that you have been offered some wonderful advice, everything that I would have said has been covered. Like MOAB and others I have found over the years that buying the "compromise or second choice" is never satisfactory. I have done this with watches and other things, and in every case, I wasn't happy with the purchase and moved it along pretty quickly. You know what you want, and I would keep searching. If you want something in the interim, that's fine but it's not the end result and you will never be satisfied until you get what you really want. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Hope you have more luck finding a bezel/insert than I had finding a crystal for my RG FF. I scratched the AR on mine a few months back, and thus far I have been unsuccessful in finding a replacement. Seems like noob is not too forthcoming with spare parts. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. I need to go back and look, it was over 5 years ago. Seems like it came from the same place as the one Freddy has on his 1665, but I wouldn't swear to it. I'll check tonite: Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Why???? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Mine cost over 3k and it has genuine movement(1570), crown/ tube, insert, pearl, bracelet and end links. My case is an older MBW that cost me 250.00 for the watch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. What is even more amazing, yuki tells you on his website that they are dirty, and need a service to make them dependable. At least he is upfront about the problem. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  11. I agree with Tomhorn. If you want a gen like movement get the yuki 3135, for about 350USD, have it serviced and you have a movement that will take a gen date wheel ,dial and gen hands. I firmly believe that a lot of thes guys are going a little crazy with these 16610 and 116610 builds. Gen movement, hands, dial, insert crown/tube and you have a nice watch, but it's going to be a 3000.00 USD build. There is no way you will ever get your money back on a rep that costs 60-70 percent of a good genuine. If you don't believe me, go back and research the sales threads over the past several years, see how many "superfrankens" sit around forever and are finally parted out to get some of the sellers money back. 12. Go to some of the genuine watch sales areas, such as WatchUSeek or the SeikoCitizen Forum they are on sale there pretty often and cheaper than new. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. that site you linked to is a well known scam watch site. If you want to get scammed, send them your money, otherwise read the reviews of watches here and use the trusted dealers, unless you are a troll who is a shill for that site. You are brand new, so I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt. AJ sorry to post this in your thread, that Dreyfus is a beautiful watch.
  14. I haven't seen any new genuine Tudor parts , but I haven't really been looking!! I believe that the 7928 would probably be and easier build, as there have been some built here and you can search and find threads about the watch build. Also I would think that parts would be more available for the vintage Tudor.
  15. Those look really nice. I bet another great one would be a 1675 case with the insides of the CG's built up and reshaped so that a correct 5.3 mm crown would work in place of the 6mm that all the rep makers use. That's my pet peeve with most of the 1675 builds, the 6mm crown is a dead giveaway. Great skills you have here, sir. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  16. Still wearing the GMTIIC. Pretty dirty, but that's what happens when you live out in the country and wear them every day!! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  17. Looks like the service dial and hands are superluminova, probably all Rolex has now. I would have sent this one to Bob Ridley and let him work his magic. Still not too late if he has all the parts. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  18. Here you go, this came with all Rolex watches years ago. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  19. Wasn't this the watch you pictured and started a thread about over a year ago? You said it belonged to a friend back then. First off Rolex didn't do you any favors by changing the small hand, replacing the insert and Crystal. Surprised that you got your old parts back, but that is definitely a plus. We're this my watch, I would have sent it to one of the independent Rolex watchsmiths, had them overhaul the movement, Polish the Crystal and possibly stabilize the Lume on the hands if it was loose. None of that would have decreased the value of the watch, but replacing all those valuable parts with a service insert, Crystal and service hands definitely decreases the value. I have no idea why someone would want to trade and iconic watch for a "dime a dozen" contemporary sub, but to each his own. Best advice go over to the Rolex forum and the Rolex forum on WUS (WatchUSeek) and post some photos and ask if it would be a fair trade straight up for the sub you want. 20. Frequently as they "wear in" and all the parts get broken in, watches will get a little more accurate. I would wear it for a few weeks and then see what it looks like. I wouldn't try to adjust it right now. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
