  1. Great watch, please post pics when u can!
  2. PVD - Physical Vapor Deposition (Dark Surface Coating)
  3. Well, quartz simply won't do due to the stop-tick ticking style. Ubi - wow. Everytime I see them, I want to embark upon that project. But, alas... Too many projects, not enough dinero Cheers
  4. I am very impressed (as usual) with your extraordinary attention to quality and detail(s). Avitt, that is one fine looking watch.
  5. Mmmm, I see a trend. Perhaps a somewhat unpleasant trend.
  6. You will love the XTI. But don't get the kit lens, it is crap. I recommend (unless you already have Canon EOS lenses) you get: EF-S 17-55mm 2.8 EF-S 10-22mm 3.5 Battery Grip BG-E3 Canon Hand Strap for the battery grip 580EX Flash The 2 lenses mentioned above are as good, if not better, than any comporable professional "L" Series lens. If you want to move up to full-frame 5D, you an sell your entire XTI setup and have plenty of $$$ to spare in the end. But... The XTI is actually excellent. My only gripe is that it needs the Battery Grip since the side grip on the XTI body is too small.
  7. Wadan: Very nice watch. I've been meaning to send you my utmost compliments by the way. It's funny, this morning I decided to go for more old aviator action... More 42mm diameter action... - Late 1920s - Battle-tested (Battle Of Britain, etc...) - Flew lots of missions based on caseback piting and overall patina (especially the brassed crown) - 15J Micro-Stella balance - Ultra-accurate timekeeping. - Large 42mm diameter with 22mm lugs - Dual hinged caseback

    DW 6263

Somebody asked me yesterday if my watch was ever used in a lab. "Lab??", I thought. Well, the dude continued with saying that his old man was a scientist at JPL in Pasadena; and that he has always used the same model Daytona as mine to take measurements of sorts. I was somewhat startled with this interaction, but needless to say it was quite amusing. I do recall speaking to quite a few ADs over the past 15+ years about the 6263/5 Daytonas. Some ADs did tell me that they could barely get the Daytonas out of their hands. Their best clients for the Daytonas were, get this, scientists. Makes sense. Crossing paths with the aforementioned gentleman yesterday reiterates this suggested commonality that I speak of... Scientists, unite! Fascinating...
  9. It is smaller, but it 'works' very nicely. Great watch IMHO.
  10. Very lovely! That is one of my favorite PAMs I have seen. I want it!
  11. That is one fine looking strap! And the puppy, too!
  12. There are various reps that are fairly decent to begin with. If you are not worried about "cost", then I suggest you sell the case kit you purchased... And buy a 70s 5513, Then take a deep breath. Purchase a Mil-Sub bezel insert, redial the dial with a "T" and change the hands with Sword hands. You can also have bars welded in as permanent springbars. You will have a franken of sorts in the end. I have owned an OEM 5513 for many years and I would never do this to the watch as it is wholly perfect IMHO. But you can do it to your 5513. For tools, you will need to buy the best quality items that you can: buy the expensive Swiss tools. Don't chump out and buy Made In China/India crap. Those cheapo tools won't even make it through your first project! But the Swiss versions, despite costing more, should last you a long time. Remember the old adage: u get what u pay for in life. - caseback opener - screwdriver set - a few tweezers & pliers - toothpicks - movement holder - crystal remover - hand setting tool - hand removing tool - tissue paper - various loupes - can of air to remove dust - lens cleaning silk/nylon cloth - Rolex bezel spring remover - Rolex crystal press - a lotta patience and steady hands Cheers
  13. Nice collection. I am almost glad that the internet was still in its infancy (remember when 28.8 modems were considered 'fast'!!!) when I got into watches. It made my addiction mild since there was not so much information readily available. Nowadays, I buy watches like I steal toothpicks from restaurants: all the time Best regards
  14. I forgot to say that the Tron link is one of the best damn links I have ever seen. Incredible!
  15. How do I tell if my crystal has AR coating? I have an IWC Mark XV that I purchased from Trusty and I have no idea if it has any AR coating on it. I would like to get in on Chieftang's next AR run.
  16. I need to know if Trusty's MK XV has any AR on the crystal. Why? Well, I would like to get in on this next AR coating batch!
  17. Very nice project. I like the CGs. Welcome to the vintage Rolex Premier Members' Club
  18. I would indeed recommend the 3717 A little AR coating would only be an added bonus to an otherwise lovely watch. I do like the Chronomat Evolution, but the strange simplicity of the 3717 makes it an instant classic in my book. Cheers
  19. Congrats! That is one of my favorite Zenith models - in fact it is my favorite model. Those movements are lovely. It is possibly the best column wheel chrono movement around (along with the Valjoux 72).
  20. Late 1920s early 1930s Omega Pilot watch. The movement is unbelievably accurate (Breguet Hairspring, 15 Jewels, Micro-Stella balance along with an ultra-precise micro-regulateur, gold plated...etc) Large (but not too large) 42mm diameter. Very thin profile, thus supremely comfortable and wholly elegant IMHO. The strap is a genuine OEM Panerai black calf strap that I purchased in Firenze Italy 7+ years ago
